Left Flank Pain and Hydronephrosis as the Initial Presentations of Advanced Gastric Cancer
...Show More Authors

Ureteric obstruction is rarely noted in cases of gastric cancer. Its involvement by distant metastasis from gastric adenocarcinoma without direct invasion is an exceptionally unusual occurrence. This is the story of a 58-year-old man who arrived at the emergency department with acute flank pain and fever. He was initially diagnosed with obstructive pyelonephritis after the discovery of a new onset, complete ureteric obstruction on the left side. Subsequent investigations and follow-up revealed the presence of gastric adenocarcinoma with possible ureteric metastasis bilaterally, flank pain and hydronephrosis were the first and only presentations of gastric cancer. The rarity of the condition and the unusual presentation encouraged us to report the case.

An Experimental Investigation of Slab-Column Connection Strengthened with Steel Collar under Eccentric Load
...Show More Authors

Slab-Column (SC) connections refer to concrete reinforcing slabs that have consistent thickness and directly transfer loads to the support column. The absence of beams makes these connections distinct and economical compared to other systems. The most common type of failure in flat slab systems is punching shear, therefore, strengthening the SC region is necessary. The current study introduces a practical methodology that aims to enhance the punching shear strength of concrete flat slabs using steel collars. Nine 9-square reinforced concrete slab specimens with dimensions of 1400×1400×100 mm were cast and investigated under static load. Three specimens were tested using the axial load procedure, while six slabs were tested deployi

A Cognitive Linguistic Study of Construal Operations in Selected Strange Trend Silent Animated Films
...Show More Authors

The present study is qualitative cognitive linguistic study. It aims to examine the number and type of construal operations highlighted by Croft and Cruise (2004) by the participants when deciphering silent animated animation. To meet the objective of the study, two silent animated films have been selected from Strange Trend YouTube group to be the data of the study. The type of animations selected address social and human issues that might be encountered in any society at any time. The model used in the analysis is Croft and Cruise’ Adapted version of Construal Operations. The study has concluded that the majority of the participants unconsciously passed through these stages; however, the number of these stages were sometimes minimized t

A NEW RECORD OF COELASTRELLA TERRESTRIS (REISIGL) HEGEWALD & N. HANAGATA, 2002 (SPHAEROPLEALES, SCENEDESMACEAE) IN IRAQ
...Show More Authors

This study identified the genus Coelastrella Chodat, 1922 which was isolated from a sediment sample taken from the Tigris river in Baghdad Governorate, Iraq. The alga was isolated and cultured in modified Chu 10 media and the morphological features of the isolated algae were observed in light microscopy (LM); it showed some characteristic features of this genus, such as its ellipsoidal or lemon- shaped cells, a visible pyrenoid and the chloroplast parietal. To ensure correct identification of the isolated alga, a molecular analysis using 18S rRNA gene and DNA sequencing revealed a match with C. terrestris (Reisigl) Hedewald & N. Hanagata 2002. This species is a new record in Iraq

Model of traumatic spinal cord injury for evaluating pharmacologic treatments in cynomolgus macaques (Macaca fasicularis)
...Show More Authors

Here we present the results of experiments involving cynomolgus macaques, in which a model of traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) was created by using a balloon catheter inserted into the epidural space. Prior to the creation of the lesion, we inserted an EMG recording device to facilitate measurement of tail movement and muscle activity before and after TSCI. This model is unique in that the impairment is limited to the tail: the subjects do not experience limb weakness, bladder impairment, or bowel dysfunction. In addition, 4 of the 6 subjects received a combination treatment comprising thyrotropin releasing hormone, selenium, and vitamin E after induction of experimental TSCI. The subjects tolerated the implantation of the recording devi

Evidence Based Updating of HbA1c Targets: Global Guidelines forGlycemic Control in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
...Show More Authors

Background:Measurement of hemoglobin A1c (A1C) is a renowned tactic for gauging long-term glycemic control, and exemplifies an outstanding influence to the quality of care in diabetic patients. The concept of targets is open to criticism; they may be unattainable, or limit what could be attained, and in addition they may be economically difficult to attain. However, without some form of targeted control of an asymptomatic condition it becomes difficult to promote care at allObjectives: The present article aims to address the most recent evidence-based global guidelines of A1C targets intended for glycemic control in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D).Key messages:Rationale for Treatment Targets of A1C includesevidence for microvascular and ma

Effect of Ag nanoparticles on R6G laser dye hosted by PMMA polymerized by plasma jet
...Show More Authors

This work aim to prepare Ag/R6G/PMMA nanocomposite thin
films by In-situ plasma polymerization and study the changes in the
optical properties of fluorophore due to the presence of Ag
nanoparticles structures in the vicinity of the R6G laser dye. The
concentrations of R6G dye/MMA used are: 10-4M solutions were
prepared by dissolving the required quantity of the R6G dye in
MMAMonomer. Then Silver nanoparticles with 50 average particles
size were mixed with MMAmonomer with concentration of 0.3, 0.5,
0.7wt% to get R6G silver/MMA in liquid phase. The films were
deposited on glass substrates by dielectric barrier discharge plasma
jet. The Ag/R6G/PMMA nanocomposite thin films were

impact of mental games on improving shooting accuracy among young basketball players in Iraqi clubs
...Show More Authors

This study investigates the effectiveness of mental games in enhancing shooting accuracy among young basketball players. Initially, baseline shooting accuracy was assessed through tests conducted prior to a three-week intervention involving mental games. A follow-up test revealed a significant improvement in participants' shooting accuracy following the intervention. Given the noticeable differences in the new shooting scores compared to the initial assessments, a second set of pre-intervention tests was conducted. These tests reaffirmed the significant enhancement in shooting accuracy, substantiating the hypothesis that mental games positively affect performance. The findings highlight the importance of these intervention programs
