Comparative Study on the Corneal Endothelial Cell Count between Type 2 Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Patients
...Show More Authors

Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the commonest chronic disorders worldwide with a rapid rise in prevalence. In Iraq its prevalence is high especially in elderly age group. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus have higher vulnerability for complications, whether microvascular or macrovascular. Ocular complications are common in diabetes mellitus, and comprise diabetic retinopathy, diabetic papillopathy, cataract, glaucoma, dry eye disease and diabetic keratopathy. Diabetic keratopathy involves endothelial and epithelial tissues of the cornea, leading to persistent epithelial defect, corneal erosion, or corneal ulcers.

Aim of the Study: To compare the mean corneal endothelial cell count between patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and non-diabetics.

Subjects and Methods: This is a case-control study conducted in Ibn Al Haitham Teaching Eye Hospital – Baghdad and included 249 participants, 125 cases with type 2 diabetes and 124 controls who had no diabetes. Endothelial cell count was measured for 1 eye of each participant using TOPCON® SP-3000P microscope. Patients who had diabetes for less than 5 years, and patients who had previous ocular surgery, injury or disorders were excluded.

Results: There was a significant difference in endothelial cell count between cases with type 2 diabetes mellitus and controls; P = 0.001. There was also a significant negative correlation between age and endothelial cell count, R = -0.20, P = 0.002. Similarly, there was a significant negative correlation between duration of diabetes mellitus and endothelial cell count, R = -0.44, P < 0.001.

Conclusions: Type 2 diabetes mellitus causes significant reduction in mean corneal endothelial cell count. There is also a negative correlation between corneal endothelial cell count and both age and duration of the disease.

The research deals with the important and modern two subject (career path and the type of training program), and tries to find identify the extent of the impact of the requirements of a career path in determining the type of training program in the Ministry of Oil.

In order to achieve the aim of the research was the formulation of the following hypothesis: the impact of the requirements of the career path a meaningful moral influence in determining the type of training program.

The survey was adopted in the search, and sample consisted of (75) people were a factor in the Oil Ministry of People's managers and officials and staff, and used the questionnaire as an es

Background: Humeral diaphyseal fracture usually
heals with closed methods but when nonunion
develops then it needs surgical intervention in the
form of plating and bone grafting, intramedulary
nailing (open or closed simple or interlocking nails)
and external fixators (circular or one plane fixator).
In our unit we treated non union humeral
diaphyseal fracture with plating and bone grafting
shortening of fracture ends up to 4 to 5cm when
needed. Methods: This study was conducted at
Orthopaedic Department of AL-Sadar General
Hospital from January 2004 till December2005 .
We included 20 cases with atrophic non-union in

Stability and thermophysical properties of non-covalently functionalized graphene nanoplatelets nanofluids
...Show More Authors

A pioneering idea for increasing the thermal performance of heat transfer fluids was to use ultrafine solid particles suspended in the base fluid. Nanofluids, synthesized by mixing solid nanometer sized particles at low concentrations with the base fluid, were used as a new heat transfer fluid and developed a remarkable effect on the thermophysical properties and heat transfer coefficient. For any nanofluid to be usable in heat transfer applications, the main concern is its long-term stability. The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of using four different surfactants (sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and gum Arabic (GA)), each with three different

Cultural Diversity in Native and Non-Native Speakers of English Communication
...Show More Authors

With the advancement of technology ,the study of  cross-cultural communication via on line  has become  an important and researchable topic in linguistic theory and its applications. The  aims of  this study are two- fold (a)  exploring the influence of cultural diversity on on-line interaction between American  native  speakers (NSs) and  Iraqi non-native speakers (NNSs) of English which, together with other factors might potentially lead to what Thomas(1983) calls  "pragmatic failure" (PF), a main cause of communication breakdowns  and (b) specifying  which  type of PF  occurs more frequently between the two groups along with the reasons behind such failures. Methotrexate effect on obestatin, progranulin and kidney function in RA Iraqi males patients
...Show More Authors

Methotrxate (MTX) has become the standard of care and first-line therapy for patients who have RA and consider as a gold standard of treatment for RA. The role of MTX in the treatment of RA has now been well established. The use of MTX treatment of RA inhibits proliferation of the lymphocytes, reduces signs and symptoms this disease, reduces progression damage of the joints and improves quality of life outcome. Progranulin (PGRN) acts a role in autoimmune inflammatory, has important function in several processes including immune response. Present study has conducted to find the effect of MTX drugs as a therapeutic target for RA patients because of its ability to bind with tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR), with progranulin, obestatin an

Assessment of Pro Hepcidin and Related with Iron Profile on Hemodialysis Men Patients
...Show More Authors

Patients with renal failure in the final stages undergo the treatment by hemodialysis. Hemodialysis is used to reinstate the intracellular and extracellular fluid environment, by propagation of molecules in solution through a semipermeable membrane along an electrochemical concentration gradient. Blood catching in the dialysis machine and the recurrent phlebotomy may lead to losing about 1-3 g of iron per year. Prohepcidin hormone is an acute phase protein (type II) that plays a major role in the systemic iron irregularities as it is a mediator of anemia in inflammation and regulator of iron metabolism. This study aims to evaluate the effect of hemodialysis on iron hemostasis and its relationship with prohepcidin as an inflammatory mark
