This research deals with study of the Petrology and mineralogy of the Rus and Jil Formations at Najif and Al-Muthanna Governorates, Southern Iraq. The Rus Formation consists mainly of evaporites and subordinate carbonates. The evaporites are characterized by nodular structure (compound wispy, wispy, structureless and mosaic structures) with some laminated structure at the studied sections. Compound wispy to wispy structure are the dominant structures. The Jil Formation consists almost entirely of carbonate. The carbonate rocks are dolomitic limestone and dolomite beds, massive, fossiliferous, cavernous sometime friable and bioturbated in its lower part. CdSe alloy has been prepared successfully from its high purity elements. Thin films of this alloy with different thicknesses (300,700)nm have been grown on glass substrates at room temperature under very low pressure (10-5)Torr with rate of deposition (1.7)nm/sec by thermal evaporation technique, after that these thin films have been heat treated under low pressure (10-2)Torr at (473,673)K for one hour. X-ray patterns showed that both CdSe alloy and thin films are polycrystalline and have the hexagonal structure with preferential orientation in the [100] and [002] direction respectively. Gravity and magnetic data are used to study the tectonic situation of Al-Kut- Al-
Hai and surrounding areas in central Iraq. The study included application of many
processing and interpretation programs. The window method with different spacing
was used to separate the residual from regional anomalies for gravity and magnetic
data. The Total Horizontal Derivative (THDR) techniques used to identify the fault
trends in the basement and sedimentary cover rocks depending upon gravity and
magnetic data. The identified faults in the study area show (NW-SE), (NE-SW) (NS)
and (E-W) trends. It is believed that these faults extending from the basement to
the upper most layer of the sedimentary cover rocks.
