In the pathophysiology of SLE, cytokines have a pleiotropic function. Recently, IL-9 was discovered to mediate strong anti-inflammatory effects in numerous cells or experimental autoimmune models. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease its etiology is  unknown .
