Manifestation and response of Laryngopharygeal reflux to treatment in Kurdistan -IRAQ
...Show More Authors

BACKGROUND: In 1972 complete description of the
inflammation of posterior third of the vocal cords was
done, with barium swallow confirming Gastro
Esophageal Disease [CRED] & subsequent successful
symptomatic treatment with antacid. The possible
association between GERD & chronic laryngitis was
initially known as acid laryngitis .2

OBJECTIVE: To record the common presentation
symptoms of laryngopharyngeal reflux LPR in
Kurdistan- Iraq. To study the significance of fibro optic
laryngoscope in diagnosis and improvement of
laryngopharyngeal reflux [LPR] and to evaluate the
effect of medical therapy on these nonspecific
symptoms and Laryngoscopic finding.
METHODS: A prospective study was conducted over
a two year period at Rizgary teaching hospital,
Kurdistan/lraq; on 132 patients who presented
primarily with Laryngopharyngeal symptoms .They
were evaluated using special questionnaire for
recording these symptoms: persistent chronic cough,
globus sensation, throat clearing, voice change,
regurgitation, heartburn, symptoms of peptic ulcer
disease, and any other non specific respiratory
symptom. These symptom and Laryngoscopic findings
pre and post anti-reflux therapy were recorded.
Esophagogastro - duodenoscopy findings were also
recorded but only on presentation.
RESULTS: A total of 132 patients were evaluated over
a two year period .Respiratory symptoms at
presentation were persistent irritative cough [92%],
itchy throat [85%], globus pharynges [83%], and
cricopharngeal spasm [57%]. Endoscope findings
revealed gastroduodenitis in 5%, non specific gastritis
in 9%, duodenal ulcer in 2%, and normal findings in
62.7%, while Laryngoscopic finding were mainly
posterior commissure injection 82%, vocal cord edema
74%, laryngeal erythema 77% and subglottic edema
24%. Patients were treated medically with antacids, H2
antagonists, proton pump inhibitors and were followed
up and reexamined by laryngoscope; all data about
improvement in symptom and in the laryngeal sign by
Laryngoscopic findings were collected following antireflux therapy and showed significant improvement in
both ,all were analyzed in special figures and tables.
CONCLUSION: Reflux laryngitis and LPR should be
a differential diagnosis in patient with pharyngeal and
laryngeal symptoms not associated with upper
respiratory disease in the presence or absence of GERD
or peptic ulcer symptom, dyspepsia, regurgitation. The
management should be multidisciplinary.
Laryngoscopic finding were of value in the diagnosis of
the changes in laryngeal mucosa pre and post medical
treatment by Proton Pump Inhibitors empirical therapy

Corrosion Study of the Injection Equipments in Water in Al-Ahdeb Wells ‐Iraq
...Show More Authors

Water injection equipments such as pipelines, which are used in the second recovery of oil in the Al-Ahdeb wells, suffer from the corrosion in water during maintaining vacuum deoxygenated tower that used to decrease concentration of the dissolved oxygen gas in the water from 6.2-9.1 ppm to o.5 ppm. This study involved calculation the corrosion rates of the internal surfaces of the
pipelines either during operation of the vacuum unit or when the tower out of operation. Finally, find the solution by one of the following suggestions. In the first suggestion removal of the dissolved O2 from water is achieved by increasing the dosage of the oxygen scavenger (sodium sulphite). The second suggestion involves removing the dissolved O2 from w

The Seroprevalence of CMV in Women with Bad Obstetric History in Babil/Iraq
...Show More Authors

Placental dysfunction and or fetal central nervous system infestation caused by Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is the leading cause of congenital non-genetic neuro-developmental problems of the newborn, worldwide. Although the highest rates of congenital infection and CMV seroprevalence occurs in developing countries like Iraq, there remains a paucity of data from that part of the world. This descriptive case control study was undertaken in Babylon/ Iraq to determine the local seroprevalence of CMV in women of child bearing age, and to identify the socio-demographic factors associated with it.  This study found a seropositivity peak amongst the 26-35 yr olds which declined in the 36 – 45 yr olds. However, the

The liver is one of the most prominent glands in the digestive system. It crosses vital organs with multiple functions, including the secretion of enzymes, digestion of fats, and secretion of bile. Through histological studies and those interested in them, the tissue structure of the liver is of interest to researchers, and the four samples of Guinea pig Cavia porcellus were taken in this study to know the histological structure and compare it with rodents in particular. and other animals in general. The results of the liver parenchyma were comparable to those of the studied mammals in periods of hepatocytes, Kupffer cells, and sinusoids surrounding the central vein, blood supply, and bile ducts. Trichomonas vaginalis is a causative agent of trichomoniasis , one of the most common non-viral sexually transmitted disease (STD) over all the world, especially in immunocompromised women such as pregnant. Wet smear and Giemsa stain are the current methods used in hospital to diagnosis trichomoniasis. DNA based diagnosis is still to be validated to diagnose the local isolates, the objective of the present study was to compare the conventional methods of disease diagnosis with the DNA-based method to diagnose Trichomonas incidence in local isolates. In the present study, 105 samples were collected from outpatient women (18-45 years) of Maternity hospital in Mosul who showed a classical presentation of Trichomonas
