MATERNAL AND FETAL OUTCOMES IN EMERGENCY VERSUS ELECTIVE TWO OR MORE PREVIOUS CAESAREAN DELIVERIES
...Show More Authors

Background: Women with previous two or
more caesarean deliveries are usually
managed by elective cesarean section to avoid
the possible risks of labor.
Objective: To compare the relative risks of
maternal and fetal outcomes in emergency
versus elective previous two or more
caesarean deliveries
Design: Randomized prospective clinical
study
Setting: Al-Elweya Maternity Teaching
Hospital, from 1st of March to 31st of
September 2008.
Methods: The study groups, those who had
previous two or more caesarean deliveries,
were included from the hospital admissions.
The 1st group (102 women) presented in labor
and was managed by caesarean delivery as
soon as it was possible. The second group (78
women) was admitted for elective cesarean
delivery.
The main maternal outcomes were intra
operative complications, including
hysterectomy, scar dehiscence, bladder
injuries, uterine and internal iliac arteries
ligation, and blood transfusion. Postoperative
maternal outcomes were severe morbidity
including bleeding, fever, urinary tract
infection, blood transfusion, the need to
Intensive Care Unit admission and
readmission. The fetal outcomes measures
were Apgar score at one and five minutes,
respiratory distress syndrome (RDS),
admission to the neonatal intensive care unit
and fetal loss up to hospital discharge.
Results: Both groups were comparable in
demographic, social and past obstetric history
characteristics. Intra operative complications
showed significant difference in bowel
adhesions (RR 0.35, 95% CI 0.14- 0.88), and
blood transfusion (RR 0.51, 95% CI 0.28-
0.94). There was statistical significant
difference in the mobilization time 7.2 hours
and 9.3 hours in emergency and elective
groups respectively (p= 0.0009), also in
feeding time, it was shorter after emergency
caesarean section (P=0.0224), and in the
hospital stay 24.6 and 32.6 hours respectively
(p=0.0001). There was no statistical difference
in post operative complications. Fetal
outcomes showed no statistical significant
difference in fetal loss, respiratory distress and
readmission.
Conclusion: Women with previous two or
more caesarean deliveries can wait until
starting labor for doing cesarean delivery
without increasing risks to the mother and
fetus.

ABSTRACT

The research aim is to determine the relation between governmental consumption expenditure (GCE) & GDP in Iraq for the period 1981-2006.

The research has determined the scale of optimization for (GCE) & try to know the extent productivity of this expenditure and using the long run &short run model to test .The results clarify the following

1-The marginal productivity for the (GCE) is positive so it is productive.

2-The (GCE) in Iraq is too high because the marginal productivity for the expenditure less than 1.

3- The (GCE) percentage to GNP is

Background: The elimination of the microorganisms from the root canal systems, an important step for the successful root canal treatment. This study was conducted to evaluate the antibacterial effectiveness of the photoactivated disinfection by using the toluidine blue O and a low- energy light emitting diode (LED) lamp . Materials and method: Sixty single rooted extracted teeth were decoronated, instrumented, irrigated, sealed at the apex and contaminated with endodontic anaerobic bacteria for 7 days to form biofilms in prepared root canals. Group I. Twelve teeth were medicated by photosensitizer (toluidine blue O) solution activated by diode lamp (FotoSan; CMS Dental, Copenhagen, Denmark).Group II. Twelve teeth were medicated by the tricr

THE ROLE OF BACTERIA IN REDUCING THE IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION: BETWEEN RISKS AND BENEFITS / A REVIEW ARTICLE
...Show More Authors

The objective of this article is to study the impact of environmental pollution on air, water, and soil quality with a focus on the role of environmental bacteria in bioremediation of pollutants. The research also addresses the ability of some strains of bacteria to remove heavy metals and petroleum hydrocarbons and degrade toxic substances, resulting in improved environmental quality. Outcomes: Empirical studies reveal that environmental pollution leads to significant health and environmental problems, such as a rise in respiratory disease as a result of air pollution, water pollution that affects aquatic life, and soil pollution that decreases crop output. Other bacterial strains such as Pseudomonas, Bacillus, and Streptomyces have also b

Association of CTLA-4 (+49A/G) polymorphism and susceptibility of developing rheumatoid arthritis in an Iraqi Arab population
...Show More Authors

Background: The gene responsible for encoding the protein of cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 (CTLA-4) has been found to be associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in different ethnic populations. But the association of +49A/G CTLA-4 polymorphism with susceptibility of RA among Iraqi Arab populations has not yet been determined. Methods: One hundred and seventy-eight patients were examined, 67 of them were males (mean age 54.71 ± 10.4 years), while 167 were examined for the control group, of whom 64 were males and the rest were females. CTLA-4 DNA genotyping was carried on to determine the +49 A/G (rs231775) polymorphism using a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Enzyme-linked immuno
