Background: Diabetes mellitus has been suggested
to be the most common metabolic disorder
associated with magnesium deficiency, and because
available data suggest that adverse outcomes are
associated with hypomagnesemia, it is prudent that
routine surveillance for hypomagnesemia be done
and the condition be treated whenever possible.
Aim of the study:To explore the serum Mg
concentrations of diabetic patients and healthy
controls in our locality.
Mehtods: One hundred and forty four diabetic
patients (22 with type I and 122 with type II diabetes
mellitus) recruited from the outpatient diabetes clinic
at the Specialized Center For Endocrine DiseasesBaghdad (62 patients), National Diabetes Center-Al
Mustansiria University (20 patients), and from
private endocrinologic practice clinics in Baghdad
(62 patients), during the period from 1st October
2005 to 30th April 2006. Ninety non-diabetic healthy
controls matched for age and sex were participated in
this study. Exclusion criteria for both groups
included diarrhea and loop diuretics. None were
taking Mg supplements. Level of Mg and Albumin
were determined spectrophotometerically in the
same serum samples.
Results: Mean serum Mg concentrations of the
diabetics was significantly lower than in controls
(p<0.001). Serum albumin was not a significant
predictor of serum Mg neither among diabetic
patients (r = 0.005) nor control subjects (r = 0.139).
In 88.9% of the diabetic patients and 11.1% of the
control subjects serum Mg concentrations were
below the normal reference range of 0.70 mmol/L.
The prevalence is increased when hypomagnesemia
is defined by a reference limit of 0.75 mmol/L
(98.6% and 28.9 % for diabetics and controls,
respectively), a further higher prevalence among
controls (91.1 %) was noted when 0.80 mmol/L is
adopted as the lower normal limit. All diabetics
(100%) and controls (100%) were identified as
hypomagnesemic with a lower reference limit of
0.90 mmol/L.
Conclusion: The tremendous hot climate of ours,
can be suggested as an influential cause for increased
Mg losses, and may provide a coherent explanation
for the exceedingly high prevalence of
hypomagnesemia observed in diabetic and control
subjects participated in this study. Which therefore
may suggest an inevitable requirement for
magnesium supplementation to avert
hypomagnesemia, not only among diabetics, but as
well for controls, particularly through the hot
summer episode
This work aimed to study the effect of laser surface treatment on the mechanical characteristics and corrosion behaviour of grey cast iron type A159. Many technical applications used conventional surface treatment, but laser surface hardening has recently been used to enhance the surface properties of many alloys. The mechanical characteristics, including microstructure, microhardness, and wear resistance of A159 grey cast iron, were studied, in addition to corrosion behaviour. The experimental laser parameters in this work were 0.9, 1.2, and 1.5 KW power with continuous wave carbon dioxide lasers with scanning speeds of 10 and 12 mm/s were used. The results found that phase-transitional alterations in microstructure were influenced by lase

Eng.Sci., University of Baghdad during fall season of 2019-2020, in order to evaluate the effect of nutrient solution type under hydroponic system (NFT) on growth, yield and quality of broccoli Brassica oleracea var.italica. Two experiments were carried out which were the standard solution experiment (Cooper) and the alternative solution experiment (ABEER) prepared from fertilizers. Results revealed that the type of solution used in the hydroponics system had non significant effect on the leaves content of N,K, Mg, Fe, Cu, B, Chlorophyll, leaves number, root length, weight of the main heads, number of side heads were not significantly affected. 13nt, refl

There are statistically significant differences between the results of the pre- and post-tests of the experimental group in measuring cognitive load. The structure , optical and electrical properties were studied . The results of X-ray diffraction( XRD) confirmed that the film grown by this technique have good crystalline tetragonal mixed anatase and rutile phase structure, The preferred orientation was along (110) direction for Rutile phase. The optical properties of the films were studied by UV-VIS spectrum in the range of (360-1100)

Experiments were conducted to study the possible interactions between the Mycorrhizal fungi (Glomus mossae and Gigaspora spp.) and sulphur foam to control M. javanica on eggplant at seed or seedling stage. Experiment at seed stage treated with Mycorrhiza or sulphur foam alone or together stimulated the growth and reduced Nematode infestation significantly. Treated plant at seedling stage increased plant growth and reduced the number of galls /gm of root system. The interaction between Mycorrhiza and sulpher foam treatments was not significant

This research depended on the descriptive-constructive approach through the responses of a sample of (79) employees from (Real Estate Office of The State) in Al-Najaf province. The analyzing of the study done by using (Smart PLS) program to calculate (R2, t, p). Many results have been concluded and one of them, there is significant impact correlation of the leadership integrity on organizational conflict. Practically, a conventional directional control valve has complex construction and moving parts, such as spool. Alternatively, a proposed Magneto-rheological (MR) directional control valve can offer a better solution without any moving parts by means of MR fluid. MR fluid consists of stable suspension of micro-sized magnetic particles dispersed in carrier medium like hydrocarbon oil. The main objectives of this present research are to design a MR directional control valve using MR fluid, to analyse its magnetic circuit using FEMM software, and to study and simulate the performance of this valve.
