Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is
the most common form of chronic anovulation
associated with androgen excess; it occurs in about 5
– 10% 0f reproductive age women. Metabolic
syndrome is characterized by insulin resistance,
hypertension, obesity, abnormalities of blood clotting
and dyslipidemia.
Adult women with PCOS have an increased
prevalence of the metabolic syndrome(MBS).
Objectives: To detect the prevalence of metabolic
syndrome in women with proved PCOS, attending the
Specialized Center for Endocrinology and Diabetes, in
Baghdad.
Materials and methods : A total number of 40
women with proved PCOS were included in this study
which was conducted in the Specialized Center for
Endocrinology and Diabetes-Baghdad, over a period
of 5 months(from April till September 2005).In
addition to measuring waist circumference and body
mass index(BMI),all patients were tested for the
levels of C-peptide, Fasting plasma glucose(FPG),
Serum luteinizing hormone(LH), Follicle st –
imulating hormone(FSH), Prolactin(PRL),
Progesterone, estradiol(E2), testosterone,T3,T4 and
TSH .
Also lipid profile, glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c) were
estimated to all patients. Glucose tolerance test(GTT)
using 75 gm of glucose was performed on all patients.
Results: Out of 40 women with PCOS,eleven
patients(27.5%) have impaired GTT. Twenty patients
(50%) out of 40 fulfil the criteria of the International
Diabetes Fideration(IDF)
Consensus Definition of the metabolic
syndrome(MBS)-2005.
Thirty-Seven patients(92.5%) have a waist
circumference more than 80 cm.
Thirty-two patients(80%) have secondary amenorrhea.
Hirsuitism and increased BMI(body mass index) were
present in 33 patients(82.5%)
The mean C-peptide level was higher in those patients
who had impaired GTT(11 patients),meaning that
GTT can be used to detect insulin resistance specially
in Labs. where measurements of insulin levels are not
available.
Conclusions :
1. Metabolic syndrome is present in 50% of our
patients, using the IDF Consensus Definition of
the metabolic syndrome-2005.
2. Glucose tolerance test can be used to detect the
presence of insulin resistance specially in Labs.
where measurements of insulin levels are not
available.
3. Insulin resistance is present in 27.5% in women
with PCOS who were included in our study.
In his post colonial novel, In the Skin of a lion, the Canadian/Sri Lankan writer,
Michael Ondaatje is so interested in the term "Post colonialism" because he wants to show
that the term doesn't only refer to a period of time that comes after colonialism. In other
words, post colonialism is not only referred to as a literal description of formerly colonial
societies. He deals with the termas a literary genre and an academic construct that describes
the global conditions of a man after a period of colonialism. He shows that post colonialism is
a theory that tries to examine and explore the different styles and faces of European authority
to control the colonized. Ondaatje's attempt through such term is to unmask Europ

Socioeconomic factors were found to be strong predictors of the prevalence of oral diseases in children, likes family income, occupational prestige, and education. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of socioeconomic factors on occurrence dental caries in their children. Materials and methods: The sample consists of 550 kindergartens children aged between (4-5) years were selected randomly, girls and boys. The kindergartens selection was randomly from different geographical areas in Al-Najaf governorate. Information was taken from children's parents using questionnaire with the help o

Objective: To assess our locality about prevalence of CNS infections , to have more awareness regarding CNS infections, and to try to find the proper way to reduce their prevalence and to treat them in appropriate way.
Method :We revised the records of all the cases of CNS infections excluding cases of spinal cord infections who were admitted in the wards of neuroscience hospital over the previous two years ( from July/2010 to June 2012 ),those were 132 cases.Seaso
The monthly time series of the Total Suspended Solids (TSS) concentrations in Euphrates River at Nasria was analyzed as a time series. The data used for the analysis was the monthly series during (1977-2000).
The series was tested for nonhomogenity and found to be nonhomogeneous. A significant positive jump was observed after 1988. This nonhomogenity was removed using a method suggested by Yevichevich (7). The homogeneous series was then normalized using Box and Cox (2) transformation. The periodic component of the series was fitted using harmonic analyses, and removed from the series to obtain the dependent stochastic component. This component was then modeled using first order autoregressive model (Markovian chain). The above a

The research aims to determine the principles of total quality management (commitment of senior management, product planning, customer satisfaction, process improvement) and its role in promoting employee loyalty through a sample survey of the opinions of managers in public redemption Company. Which amounted to (45) individuals adoption of the questionnaire as a tool head in collecting data and information and their responses were analyzed using several statistical methods, which included (arithmetic mean, standard deviation, correlation coefficient, and the coefficient of simple regression) depending on the program (spss). The aim of this study was to assess the levels of some biochemical parameters in Toxoplasma positive and negative subjects. An analytical case–control study was achieved in Baghdad for the period from October 2018 until March 2019. Forty nine females participated in this study, with an age range of 18-55 years. The participants were separated into two groups, namely Toxoplasma positive subjects (n=21) and Toxoplasma negative subjects (n=28), based on enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Blood and serum samples were collected from all subjects to evaluate the serum levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lip
