Human chorionic gonadotropin and Testosterone in Normal and Preeclamptic Pregnancies in Relation to Fetal sex
...Show More Authors

Back ground: The gender related difference
may be the result of pregandiol excretion in the
latter half of pregnancy.
Aim: This study is to evaluate the effects of fetal
gender on serum human chorionic gonadotropin
[HCG] and testosterone in normotensive and
preeclamptic pregnancies
Methods: The study consisted of fifty women with
singleton pergnancy in their third trimester. Twenty
five pregnancies were uncomplicated Among those
there were thirteen male, and twelve female fetuses
Twenty five pregnancies were complicated by
preeclampsia. Among those thirteen were with male,
and twelve were with female fetuses. Human
chorionic gonadotropin and total testosterone were
measured in maternal peripheral blood.
Results: In male bearing pregnancies, maternal
HCG and testosterone serum levels were significantly
higher in preeclamptic than in normotensive mothers.
In female bearing pregnancies, testosterone levels
were significantly higher in preeclamptic than
normotensive mothers, whereas the HCG levels were
not significantly different.Male Bearing preeclamptic
women had significantly higher testosterone levels
than female Bearing preeclamptic women, whereas
the HCG levels were not significantly different. In
uncomplucated pregnancies the HCG levels
significantly higher in female bearing than in male
bearing mothers,
Conclusion: In preeclamptic pregnancies with male
fetuses; the maternal serum HCG levels were
significantly higher than in uncomplicated
pregnancies. Total testosterone level were
significantly higher in pregnancies whether with
male or female fetuses. It was also significantly
higher in male bearing than female bearing
pregnancies. This may indicate an androgen
influence on the pathophysiologic of preeclampsia

The ability of solving a mathematical problem and its relation to system thinking among fifth preparatory students
...Show More Authors

The research seeks to examine the ability of fifth preparatory students in solving a mathematical problem in relation to system thinking. To this end, the researcher chose (140) fifth preparatory students from four-different secondary schools in Kirkuk city for the academic year (2016-2017). Two tests were adopted to collect study data: a test of (5) items about skills in solving math problem designed by (Al-raihan, 2006); and a test of system thinking skills designed by the researcher himself consisted of (14) items. It was divided into four skills (analyzing the main system to subsystems, eliminating all inner gaps of system, identifying the inner connection of system, and reorganizing the system). The findings indicated a good ability

The Personality types (The Enneagram) among the lecturers of Baghdad University and its relation to some variables
...Show More Authors

The current study is aimed to identify personality types of the lecturers of Baghdad University as well as identify the prevailing types among the lecturers. In addition, the study aimed to identify the significant difference among personality types (The Enneagram) according to the variables of academic title and scientific major . One hundred and ninety four lecturers were involved in this study. In order to achieve the study's aims, the scale of (Baron& Wagele 1994) was used to measure the nine personality types (The Enneagram) that was translated by( Anwar Omar Ibrahim 2012). Some statistical analysis were used and the result demonstrated that Romantic types was found to be the most prevailing types among the lecturers of Baghdad

The Relation Between Oxygen Therapy Duration and Free Radical Generation In Infants With bronchiolitis
...Show More Authors

Oxygen therapy (OT) is considered    an essential process for

survival for the i nfants with bronchiolitis > However, it may reach the status of being harmful when using it for along beriod . We , here, attempted to shed a light on relations between oxygen therapy duration(OTD)   and each of serum malondialdehyde (MDA) that is used as index for free radical generation , and serum albumin level , in infants with bronchiolitis . Our results   confirmed  that  (OTD) from (1-48) hr. was non effective,  while from 49 was very effective where a grave in crease in serum (MDA)level and a decrease in serum albumin concentration were observed during that time . The relation between age a

Expression of Urotensin II of Human Placental Tissues and in Serum in Gestational Diabetic Mellitus in Iraqi Woman
...Show More Authors

The placenta is an organ between the mother and fetus necessary for fetal growth and development. Gestational diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most frequent metabolic condition detected during pregnancy. It is characterized as hyperglycemia of various severity with onset or first detection during pregnancy that does not clearly describe any form of preexisting diabetes. Urotensin II (UII), a pluripotent vasoactive peptide, is important in developing insulin resistance. This study aimed to determine the level of Urotensin II(UII) in placenta and in the serum of diabetic and nondiabetic women. Methods The blood and placenta tissue collected from 50 ladies had been enrolled in this research ( 25 females with uncomplicated), (25 women with gestati

The Usefulness of Mandibular Ramus as an Indicator in Sex Differentiation Using 3D Reconstructed Computed Tomography
...Show More Authors

Background: Determination of sex from an unknown human bone is an important role in forensic and anthropology field. The mandible is the largest and hardest facial bone, that commonly resist postmortem damage and forms an important source of information about sexual dimorphism. Mandibular ramus can be used to differentiate between sexes and it also expresses strong univariate sexual dimorphism. This study was undertaken to assess the usefulness of mandibular ramus as an aid in sex differentiation using CT scanning among Iraqi population. Materials and methods: 3D reconstructed computed tomography scanning of 140 Iraqi Arab subjects, (7 0 males and 70 females) were analyzed with their age range from 20-60 years old. The linear measurements w

Background: The Apgar score is calculated based on the five features: heart rate, reflexes, color, muscle tone, and respiratory effort. Each element is scored from 0 to 2, with a total probable score of 10 at 1 minute and 5 minute. Aim: To study the influence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and diabetes mellitus on APGAR score in neonate. Materials and methods: The samples were studied from Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimiyain (AS) Medical city, Baghdad Teaching Hospital and Al-Karkh Maternity Hospital in the period between 1 December 2016 and 1 may 2017, after obtaining the approval from Iraqi Ministry of Health. Role of vitamin C in the protection of the gum and implants in the human body: theoretical and experimental studies
...Show More Authors

The article describes a study on the role of vitamin C as a protective agent for the teeth, gum, and implants using quantum chemical calculations and polarization tests. The Density Functional Theory (DFT) at 6-311G (d, p) basis set is used to estimate the ability of vitamin C to inhibit the corrosion of the abovementioned parts. The experimental study was performed in a at human body media simulator (Hank’s balanced salt solution) at a temperature of 37°C. The compound was optimized for its ground state, physical properties, and corrosion parameters. Further, HOMO, LUMO, energy gap, dipole moment, and other parameters were used to predict the inhibitor’s efficiency. Gaussian 09, UCA-FUKUI, MGL tools, DSV, and LigPlus software was used
