Ultrasound of the Rotator Cuff: A Comparison of Ultrasonographic and Physical Examination Finding in Seventy Consecutive Cases
...Show More Authors

Background : Shoulder pain is a common problem that can pose difficult diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for the family physician It is the third most common musculoskeletal complaint in the general population, and account for 5% of all general practitioners musculoskeletal consults
Objective: To determine the diagnostic performance of ultrasonography compared with the physical examination for detection of rotator cuff tears in painful shoulder syndrome.
Method: Prospective study was done on seventy patients (48 male, 22 female), age ranged between 30-70 years (mean age 50 years), From February 2007 to July 2011, were subjected to comparative study in Al-Kindy teaching hospital with rotator cuff tears, including physical and ultrasonographic examination.
Result: Ultrasound examination confirmed the presence of rotator cuff tear in 58 patients (82.8%), about two third of them below age 40 (65.7%) and male gender (68.6%).
Conclusion: Ultrasonography which is non-invasive, safe; cheap with no known risk like radiation is a sensitive and accurate method of identifying patients with rotator cuff tears, and should be used wherever possible to improve diagnosis and treatment of painful shoulder disorders.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT CHAOTIC MAP FOR IMAGE ENCRYPTION: A DETAILED EXAMINATION
...Show More Authors

This article investigates how an appropriate chaotic map (Logistic, Tent, Henon, Sine...) should be selected taking into consideration its advantages and disadvantages in regard to a picture encipherment. Does the selection of an appropriate map depend on the image properties? The proposed system shows relevant properties of the image influence in the evaluation process of the selected chaotic map. The first chapter discusses the main principles of chaos theory, its applicability to image encryption including various sorts of chaotic maps and their math. Also this research explores the factors that determine security and efficiency of such a map. Hence the approach presents practical standpoint to the extent that certain chaos maps will bec

Sum of Squares of ‘n’ Consecutive Carol Numbers
...Show More Authors

The discussion in this paper gives several theorems and lemmas on the Sums of Squares of  consecutive Carol Numbers. These theorems are proved by using the definition of carol numbers and mathematical induction method. Here the matrix form and the recursive form of sum of squares of  consecutive Carol numbers is also given. The properties of the Carol numbers are also derived.

This paper discusses the Sums of Squares of “m” consecutive Woodall Numbers. These discussions are made from the definition of Woodall numbers. Also learn the comparability of Woodall numbers and other special numbers. An attempt to communicate the formula for the sums of squares of ‘m’ Woodall numbers and its matrix form are discussed. Further, this study expresses some more correlations between Woodall numbers and other special numbers.

Background: Brain abscess is collection of pus in the brain parrynchima surrounded by a true capsule. Usually diagnosed by CT & MRI, & treated surgically by drainage by burr hole, or excision.
Objective: evaluate our work with brain abscess.
Patient& method: 74 Patients collected in the specialized surgical hospital neuro-surgical department, from Jan. 1995 till Jan. 2005 treated surgically, all cases fully evaluated clinically & radiologically & then evaluation of the surgical procedure.
Results: there is a slight male predominance & prevalence more in the 1st 2decades of life mostly in children with cong. heart disease, headache was the most common presenting feature, with other signs of infection diagn

Knowledge, attitude and practice regarding breast cancer and breast self-examination among a sample of the educated population in Iraq
...Show More Authors

This cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study evaluated the knowledge, attitude and practice towards breast cancer and breast self-examination [‎BSE]‎ among 387 [‎302 females and 85 males]‎ educated Iraqis affiliated to 2 Iraqi universities. The participants were categorized into 3 occupations: student [‎71.3%]‎, teaching staff [‎10.3%]‎ and administrative staff [‎18.3%]‎. About half of the participants had a low knowledge score [‎< 50%]‎; only 14.3% were graded as [‎Good]‎ and above. Almost 75% of the participants believed that the best way to control breast cancer was through early detection and other possible preventive measures. Most participants [‎90.9%]‎ had heard of BSE, the main source of informatio

Promoting Clinical Breast Examination as A screening Tool for Breast Cancer in Iraq
...Show More Authors

Breast cancer constitutes about one fourth of the registered cancer cases among the Iraqi population (1)
and it is the leading cause of death among Iraqi women (2)
. Each year more women are exposed to the vicious
ramifications of this disease which include death if left unmanaged or the negative sequels that they would
experience, cosmetically and psychologically, after exposure to radical mastectomy.
The World Health Organization (WHO) documented that early detection and screening, when coped
with adequate therapy, could offer a reduction in breast cancer mortality; displaying that the low survival rates
in less developed countries, including Iraq, is mainly attributed to the lack of early detection programs couple

Integrated gallium phosphide-waveguide polarization rotator based on rotating a horizontal slot by 45 degree for 700 nm wavelength
...Show More Authors

Polarization manipulation elements operating at visible wavelengths represent a critical component of quantum communication sub-systems, equivalent to their telecom wavelength counterparts. The method proposed involves rotating the optic axis of the polarized input light by an angle of 45 degree, thereby converting the fundamental transverse electric (TE0) mode to the fundamental transverse magnetic (TM0) mode. This paper outlines an integrated gallium phosphide-waveguide polarization rotator, which relies on the rotation of a horizontal slot by 45 degree at a wavelength of 700 nm. This will ultimately lead to the conception of a mode hybridization phenomenon in the waveguide. The simulation results demonstrate a polarization co

Ultrasound Evaluation of Suspected Appendicitis
...Show More Authors

Background To evaluate the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of ultrasonographic and doppler US findings in the
diagnosis of acute appendicitis.
Method : A total of 115 cases of clinically suspected appendicitis were prospectively examined by grey scale US and doppler US. Five patients were excluded from the study because of
difficulty to perform the graded compression technique. In the other 115 patients who were included in the study population , US appendiceal and periappendiceal signs, as well as doppler US findings were evaluated. Definitive diagnosis was established at surgery and histopathological examination in 62 patients (59

Ultrasound, computed tomography and surgical observations in the evaluation and staging of the renal cell carcinoma
...Show More Authors

Background: The evaluation and staging of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has dramatically changed with the introduction of cross-sectional imaging. Nowadays, small renal lesions are easily detected by computed tomography (CT) examination while missed by other modalities.

Objective: To determine whether ultrasound (US) or CT scan is the optimum imaging modality for the evaluation of the renal masses.

Patients and methods: This is a comparative study in which 30 patients with hematuria were attending the urological consulting clinic in Ghazzi Al-Harriry hospital, Baghdad, Iraq from May 2016 to July 2017 were subjected to abdominal US and CT scan.
