Huge Chondrosarcoma of Shoulder
...Show More Authors

Background: Chondrosarcoma is the second most frequent primary malignant tumor of bone. It is considered relatively an uncommon tumor. Generally it is not common for chondrosarcoma to attend huge size; however, one type was described as mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of low grade cartilaginous cells, with female predominance which can grow to exceptionally large size. Case Presentation: We report a case of Chondrosarcoma, in 30 years old woman of 4 years duration, with a huge mass (weighted 16 Kg) and roughly measured 40x30 x20cm, around the right shoulderInvestigations: Repeated MRI of the shoulder and trunk revealed a clear plane of cleavage between the tumor mass and the chest and abdominal walls and absence of invasion of the abdomen. Ultra sonography revealed clear abdominal cavity and CT of the chest revealed clear lungs of any metastasis.Treatment: A right forequarter amputation accomplished successfully and the whole tumor with the right upper extremity in one mass was removed.Outcome and Follow-up: The post operative period was uneventful. The pathological examination is consistent with well differentiated chondrosarcoma. Conclusions: It was difficult to decide whether the tumor was a primary or secondary; because of poor clinical history and her reluctance to seek medical advice, she is living in a small town 50 km south of Baghdad and there is good medical services in her area; this could reflects the social and psychological attitude towards amputation of a limb as a treatment.

Evaluation of Stability of Cefamandol and Ceftazidime with Clavulanic Acid Against Extended Spectrum ?- Lactamase
...Show More Authors

The aim of this study is to evaluate in-vitro activity of Cefamandol (Cfm) and Ceftazidime (Cfz), in combination with Clavulanic acid (CA) against ten complicated multiresistant uropathogenic E.coli .One hundred clinical strains were isolated from patients with chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs), these isolates were identified by the Api identification systems. The antimicrobial susceptibility tests were determined by Kirby-Bauer method, all of them were sensitive to Imipenem (Imp). Ten strains were chosen for the present study, they were resistant to Ampicillin (Amp), Amoxicillin (Amo), Carbenicillin (Cb), Ticarcillin (Tic), Azlocillin (Azl), Amoxicillin\ Potassium Clavulanate {Augmentin(Amc)}, (Amo\CA), Ticarcillin\ Potas

A Study of the mechanical properties of aluminum composite materials prepared by atomization process
...Show More Authors

Steel fiber aluminum matrix composites were prepared by atomization technique. Different air atomization conditions were considered; which were atomization pressure and distance between sample and nozzle. Tensile stress properties were studied. XRF and XRD techniques were used to study the primary compositions and the structure of the raw materials and the atomized products. The tensile results showed that the best reported tensile strength observed for an atomization pressure equal to 4 mbar and sample to nozzle distance equal to 12 cm. Young modulus results showed that the best result occurred with an air atomization pressure equal to 8 mbar and sample to nozzle distance equal to 16cm

Toxoplasmosis and Risk of Endothelial Dysfunction: Role of Oxidative Stress and Pro-Inflammatory Mediators
...Show More Authors

Background: Infection with Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) leads to activation of T-helper cells (Th-1 and Th-2) which are involved in the synthesis and release of different cytokines which may lead to endothelial dysfunction. Objectives: To evaluate the endothelial function in patients with acute toxoplasmosis. Methods: This case-control study involved 31 patients with toxoplasmosis aged 19 - 47 years matched with 20 healthy subjects. Anti-T. gondii antibody (IgG, IgM, IgA) was determined by direct antigen-antibody reaction. Interleukin-6(IL-6), endothelin-1 (ET-1) and human malondialdehyde (MDA) serum levels were measured. Results: IgM, IgG and IgA levels were high in the infected patients compared with controls (P < 0.01). Furthermore, IL-

Effect of microwave irradiation on disinfection, dimensional accuracy, and surface porosity of dental casts
...Show More Authors

To evaluate the effectiveness of different microwave irradiation exposure times on the disinfection of dental stone samples immersed in different solutions, and its affect on the dimensional accuracy and surface porosity. Dental stone casts were inoculated with an isolate of Bacillus subtilis to examine the efficiency of microwave irradiation as a disinfection method while immersed in different solutions; water, 40% sodium chloride, or without immersion for different durations. Dimensional accuracy and surface porosity were also evaluated. Significant reduction in colony counts of Bacillus subtilis were observed after 5 minutes of microwave irradiation of immersed dental casts in water and NaCl solution. No evidence of growth was observed a

Investigation of Groundwater and The Impact of Over-Pumping in Al-Haydariyah Region, Iraq
...Show More Authors

In this study; a three-dimensional model was created to simulate groundwater in Al-Haydariyah area of the governorate of Al-Najaf. A solid model was created to utilize the cross sections of 25 boreholes in the research region, and it was made out of two layers: sand and clay. The steady-state calibration was employed in six observation wells to calibrate the model and establish the hydraulic conductivity, which was 17.49 m/d for sand and 1.042 m/d for clay, with a recharge rate of 0.00007 m/day. The wells in the research region were reallocated with a distance of 1500 m between each well, resulting in 140 wells evenly distributed throughout the study area and with a discharge of 5 l/s, and the scenarios were run for 1000

Effect of melatonin administration with different light colors on the production of local chickens
...Show More Authors

This study aims to observe the effect of melatonin implantation and exposure to different light colors and their interaction on productive in local Iraqi chicken. This study was conducted at the poultry farm of the Department of Animal Production/College of Agriculture/University of Baghdad/Abu Ghraib, on 252 birds (180 females and 72 males). The birds were divided into three sections (white, red and green) each section contains two lines, one of which has been planted melatonin under the skin of the neck of birds and the other has not been planted hormone. The results of the study showed significant improvement in productive traits such as egg proportion rate, egg weight, cumulative eggs number, egg mass and feed conversion rate. That the
