The prevalence and antimicrobial sensitivity of Esbl Escherichia Coli. in clinical isolates
...Show More Authors

Background: The antimicrobial resistance is one of the most serious and expanding health problems world -wide in the last decades. The esbl escherichia coli. (extended – spectrum beta-lactamase e.coli) represents an important aspect of it .Objectives: To get an overview on the esbl e.coli prevalence profile in general. Also to assess the antibiotic sensitivity of esbl e. coli trying to specify the most effective antibiotics in combating this micro-organism.Methods: this study tries to focus on this problem in Iraq which through a prospective study approach by taking 35 clinical samples from various sources (urine, blood, abscess, eye ,vagina ,stool and others),and after confirming the presence of e.coli, the presence of esbl e.coli and antibiotic sensitivity are confirmed by the use of Kirby - bauer method. Results: results showed that esbl e.coli constitutes 80% of the cases, while the results of antibiotic sensitivity were as follows: ampicillin 3.3% , ampicillin/sulbactam 20% , amoxi/clav 0%pipracillin/tazobactam 89.7% meropenem 96.7% ,imipenem 96.9% ,cefotaxime 0% ,ceftriaxone 11.8%,ceftazidime 16.1%,cefipime 14.3% ,cefazolin 16.1% cefoxitin 64.7%, aztreonam 14.3%,gentamycin 50% ,tobramycin 64.3%, amikacin 94.3%,ciprofloxacin 58.8% ,levofloxacin,64.5%nitrofurantoin,79.2%,trimethprimesulphamethoxazole 29.6% .Conclusion: the problem of esbl e.coli is expanding and there is a continuous demand for frequent monitoring of the new trends on antimicrobial resistance in different parts of the world in addition to trying to develop new antimicrobials to combat the new highly resistant strains .moreover there is a continuous need to educate the medical and the paramedical staff abot the risk of unjustified and improper prescription and use of antimicrobials.Key words: escherichia coli, extended-spectrum beta-lactamase, kirby-bauer method, muller hinton agar

Evaluation of clinical and demographical finding in patients with oral lichen planus: A retrospective cross sectional study
...Show More Authors

Aim: To learn more about Oral Lichen Planus Iraqi patients, including their background information, symptoms, and prognosis. Materials and Methods: From the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Department, College of Dentistry, Baghdad University, we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 68 patients with a histologically confirmed clinical diagnosis of oral lichen planus and subsequently contacted the patients by phone to evaluate their prognosis. Results: Females were more likely than males to experience severe pain; the reticular form of Oral Lichen Planus was the most prevalent at 38.2%, but the erosive type was more prevalent among females. Only 53 of 68 patients responded to phone calls. More than 37% of those respondents reporte

Clinical and radiographical evaluation of pulpotomy in primary molars treated with Pulpotec (PD), Formocresol and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA)
...Show More Authors

Background: Pulpotomy is an accepted treatment for the management of cariously exposed pulps in symptom free primary molars to achieve one of the most important goals for Pedodontists, which is the retention of the pulpally involved deciduous teeth healthy until the time of normal exfoliation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relative success of pulpotec, formocresol and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) in cariously exposed primary molar teeth, using clinical and radiographical examinations. Materials and methods: Thirty nine children with 45 primary molars requiring pulpotomy were selected in this study, 15 teeth treated by each type of pulpotomy medicament. Clinical and radiographical follow up for the patients was performed

Clinical and Pathological Characteristics of Triple Positive Breast Cancer among Iraqi Patients
...Show More Authors

Background: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy affecting the Iraqi population and the leading cause of cancer related mortality among Iraqi women. It has been well documented that prognosis of patients depends largely upon the hormone receptor contents and HER-2 over expression of their neoplasm. Recent studies suggest that Triple Positive (TP) tumors, bearing the three markers, tend to exhibit a relatively favorable clinical behavior in which overtreatment is not recommended. Aim: To document the different frequencies of ER/PR/HER2 breast cancer molecular subtypes focusing on the Triple Positive pattern; correlating those with the corresponding clinico-pathological characteristics among a sample of Iraqi patients diagnosed with th

Airway-centric Orthodontics: A Narrative Review of Current Evidence and Clinical Implications
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Airway-centric orthodontics has been proposed as a conceptual framework that extends the traditional understanding of craniofacial development, functional disturbances, and orthodontic treatment outcomes beyond a purely dental perspective. This approach focuses on the potential interplay among upper airway characteristics, breathing patterns, and orofacial muscle function in influencing facial growth and occlusal relationships. This narrative review aims to outline the theoretical foundations of airway-centric orthodontics and to synthesize current evidence regarding the associations among upper airway characteristics, craniofacial morphology, and orthodontic interventions. Evaluation of how laser photostimulation at two wavelengths alters the antimicrobial potential of Streptomycetes spp
...Show More Authors

The purpose of this study was to isolate and identify additional products produced by direct laser irradiation, as well as to ascertain if laser irradiation may stimulate the synthesis of antibiotic compounds in a local Streptomycetes (Strept). Moreover, we postulate the mechanisms by which lasers function within living bacterial cells and suggest that sequential photochemical reactions may transpire following a designated period of irradiation. Thiophene was found as one of the most significant clinical products with antibacterial and anticancer properties. To accomplish these objectives, we selected two isolates: Streptomyces thinghirensis strain S10 (Strept thin), which inherently synthesizes an antibacterial agent, and Streptomyces lien

Phytochemical investigation of some active constituents and evaluation of antimicrobial activity of Conyza canadensis (F: Asteraceae) grown naturally in Iraq
...Show More Authors

The plant Conyza canadensis, which belongs to Asteraceae (Compositae) family and known as Canadian horseweed. It was used as traditional medicine in China, Pakistan, India, and Africa for the treatment of various diseases causing by bacteria, fungi, or viruses. The plant has antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer pharmacological activity. This study provides the first phytochemical investigation of the plant in Iraq and is concerned with extraction, fractionation, isolation, and purification of some of the important phytochemicals detected in the plant-like phenolic acids, flavonoids, and alkaloids. Also, the literature survey has revealed that the plant has a substantial antimicrobial activity, so it w

Molecular detection of Rubella virus (1E genotype) in clinical sample of pregnant women, and it’s related to abortion
...Show More Authors

Pregnant women who have rubella may potentially pass the infection on to their unborn offspring. A congenital rubella infection can result in a miscarriage, stillbirth, and congenital rubella syndrome. The only member of the Togaviridae family’s Rubivirus genus, the Rubella virus (RV) is a positive-polarity, single-stranded RNA virus genome surrounded by a lipoprotein envelope with spike-like, hemagglutinin-containing surface projections. The objective: to determine the Rubella virus (1E genotype) in pregnant woman and its relation to spontaneous miscarriage.Materials and methods. A total of 174 women which visited Al-Elweya Teaching Hospital, Baghdad, Iraq, were screened according to the following criteria: women with a history of
