The natural courses of keratometric, pachymetric and visual acuity outcomes during 1year follow up after corneal collagen cross-linking
...Show More Authors

Background: As photochemical reaction that can stiffen the cornea, CXL is the only promising method of preventing progression of keratectasia such as KC and secondary ectasia following refractive surgery. The aim of CXL is to stabilize the underlying condition with a small chance of visual improvement. Objective: To show the sequences of changes in visual acuity and topographic outcomes during 1 year post CXL for patients with progressive Keratoconus.Type of the study: Cross sectional studyMethods: CXL procedure was done for 45 eyes with progressive KC. The following parameters had been monitored pre operatively, 1, 3, 6 and 12 months postoperatively: K apex, K2, corneal thickness at thinnest location, anterior and posterior elevation points, BCVA and UCVA. Placido –Scheimpflug topography (Sirius) device had been used to monitor the corneal parameters of the study. One –way ANOVA and Paired sample T test was used for statistical analysis. The study done in Lasik specialty center /Baghdad/IraqResults: At 1 year, an averages flattening of (2.11 D) diopter in K2 and (1.88 D) diopter in K apex were found. Mean BCVA improved by 1 line from (0.18) Log MAR to (0.13) Log MAR and mean UCVA improved by 3.5 lines from (0.89) to (0.64) log MAR. The corneal thickness at thinnest location was 5.71 Mm less than the baseline. All the above mentioned parameters showed a trend of worsening between the baseline and 1 month, and improvement thereafter. We found no statistically significant changes in the anterior elevation points while the posterior elevation point changed (increased) significantly. Conclusions: Corneal collagen cross-linking seems to be effective in decreasing progression of KC , with improvements in optical measures in many patients. Post operative parameters discussed within this review followed a seemingly reproducible trend in there natural course over 12 months .Generally, the trend that observed was immediate worsening between baseline and 1 month resolution at approximately 3 months, and improvement thereafter.

Effect of microwave pasteurization on quality characteristics of table eggs during refrigerator storage
...Show More Authors

An experiments were carried out at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Baghdad, during the period from October 26th 2023 to December 20th 2023, to study the effect of pasteurizing treatments of shell table egg using traditional Microwave oven on its quality characteristics during Zero, 1, 2, 4  and 8 weeks of refrigerator storage. A total of 120 fresh table eggs (White shell eggs) were collected from 20000 Luhman layer hens flock at Al-Amir project commercial farm, Al-Musaib city. These eggs were divided into 4 treatment of microwave pasteurization treatments which were Zero, 10, 20, and 30 sec. Results revealed that significant differences (P<0.05) for the internal characteristics of the egg after storage for 2, 4

Effect of ultrasound treatments on quality characteristics of table eggs during refrigerator storage
...Show More Authors

Ultrasound was used as a green technology to preserve food and food products. So, an experiment was conducted to compare three periods of ultrasound treatment of table eggs, 1, 2, and 3 minutes, using a conventional ultrasound device, in terms of quality characteristics, which included yolk height, yolk diameter, yolk index, white height, yolk weight, percentage and egg components percentage during 0, 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks of refrigerated storage. A total of 240 fresh table eggs (red-shell eggs) were collected randomly from a flock of 20,000 Lohmann laying hens at Al-Amir Commercial Project Farm in Al-Musayyab city, Iraq. The eggs were divided into 4 treatments (60 eggs/treatment); T1: control, T2: ultrasound for 1 min. T3: ultrasound for 2

Ultrasound has used as a green technology to preserving food and food products, it destroys pathogenic microorganisms without side effect and preserving the organoleptic properties. So, an experiment was conducted to compare three periods of ultrasound treatment of table eggs, 1, 2, and 3 minutes, using a conventional ultrasound device, in terms of bacterial count during 0, 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks of refrigerated storage. A total of 240 fresh table eggs (red-shell eggs) were collected randomly from a flock of 20,000 Lohmann laying hens at Al-Amir Commercial Project Farm in Al-Musayyab city, Iraq. Is Elective Interval Appendicectomy after Successful Initial Conservative Management of Appendicular Mass Necessary?
...Show More Authors

Background The traditional management of appendicular mass is an initial conservative treatment followed by interval appendectomy. Recently interval appendicectomy has been questioned.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to clarify the need and the role of interval appendicectomy after successful initial conservative treatment.
Method: This is a prospective study conducted in a major hospital in Basra from April 2006 to Septemper2010, included 65 patients with appendicular mass which subsequently proved postinflammmatory (phlegmonous) changes of the appendix were treated conservatively.
Results: Routine interval appendicectomy was not performed and needed after successful treatment in the majority of the patients (84.6%). F

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death worldwide. Objective: To determine of coronary care unit nurses' knowledge regarding patient rehabilitation after myocardial infarction. Methodology: A cross- sectional study was designed in the Cardiac Care Unit of Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital and the Specialized Center for Cardiac Surgery and Catheterization for the period from (November 7, 2022) to (May 12, 2023). A non-probability (purposive) sample consisting of (75 nurses) working in the above-mentioned study site. To determination of coronary care unit Nurses' knowledge regarding patient rehabilitation after myocardial infarction, the researcher used a tool that consists of two parts: The first part:

PROMASTIGOTES VIABILITY OF LEISHMANIA MAJOR W.T. ANDL. MAJOR KNOCKOUT LMLCB2 AFTER MYRIOCIN TREATMENT
...Show More Authors

Sphingolipids (SLs) are major structural constituents of eukaryotes, including the kinetoplastid parasite Leishmania. SLs are important for cellular trafficking and signaling and participate in different cell functions, such as, differentiation and cell death (apoptosis). In this study we have investigated the viability of Leishmania major wild type (W.T) and L. major knockout LmLCB2, one of two subunits of serine palmitoyl transferase (SPT) after treatment with myriocin (potent inhibitor of SPT) in order to detect the survival and proliferation of the parasites in vitro. This is to focus on the de novo sphingolipids biosynthesis pathway in both Leishmania wild type which can synthesize SPT and knockout Leishmania which genetically ablated

The pretreatment process can be considered one of the important processes in wastewater treatment, especially coagulation process to decrease the strength of many pollutants. This paper focused on using powdered date seeds as natural coagulant in addition to chemical coagulants (alum and ferric chloride) to find the optimum dosage of each coagulant that makes efficient removal of turbidity and chemical oxygen demand (COD) from domestic wastewater as a pretreatment process, then finding the optimum combined dosages of date seeds with alum, date seeds with ferric chloride that make efficient removal for both pollutants. Concerning turbidity, the optimum dosage for date seeds, alum and ferric chloride were 40 mg/l (79%), 70
