Background: Energy drinks are non alcoholic beverages which contain stimulant drugs chiefly caffeine and marketed as mental and physical stimulators. Consumption of energy drinks is popular practice among college students as they are exposed to academic stress. Caffeine which is the main constituent of energy drinks could become an addictive substance or cause intoxication. Objectives: This study aims to assess the prevalence of energy drinks consumption among medical students of alkindy college of Medicine.Type of the study: A cross sectional study.Methods: It was performed at alkindy medical college on March 2016. A total number of 600 students were contacted to participate in this study. A self administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. Spss version 18.0 was used for statistical analysis.Results: Out of 600 students, 501 (83.5%) participated in the study. The majority were females 304 (60.7%) and only 197 (39.3%) were males with a mean age of (20.43 ± 1.74). 120 (24%) of participants had consumed energy drinks at least once. Higher proportion of male students 77 (64%) consumed energy drinks compared to females 43 (36%). Regarding inspiration of first use of energy drinks, the highest percentage 9.8% was due to friends. Majority of consumers 85 (17.2%) used energy drinks irregularly. The main cause of energy drinks consumption was focusing for studying 7.2% (n=36). Conclusions: Energy drinks consumption is a common practice among medical students. Friends had a strong influence on usage of energy drinks. Students consumed energy drinks mainly for focusing for studying. Further studies are recommended to evaluate factors involved in consumption of these drinks among medical students and their understanding of the risks involved as well as possible interventions to promote safe consumption
In this study, some physical and mechanical properties of soil samples collected from the campus site of College of Science, University of Diyalahave been evaluated. All laboratory tests were performed according to the standards of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). The test results showed that the range of soil water content wwas (13.89%-16.34%) with an average of 15.44%. The specific gravity range was (2.58-2.77) with an average of 2.66. The range of Liquid Limit LL was (26.20-35.20%) with an average of 32.22%.The range of Plastic Limit PL was (18.63-23.24%) with average of 21.06%. ... Show MoreIn this paper, we propose an approach to estimate the induced potential, which is generated by swift heavy ions traversing a ZnO thin film, via an energy loss function (ELF). This induced potential is related to the projectile charge density, ρq(k) and is described by the extended Drude dielectric function. At zero momentum transfer, the resulting ELF exhibits good agreement with the previously reported results. The ELF, obtained by the extended Drude model, displays a realistic behavior over the Bethe ridge. It is observed that the induced potential relies on the heavy ion velocity and charge state q. Show MoreIn this paper the effects of the contact material on the photovoltaic (PV) characteristics of p-NiO:Au/n-Si solar cells fabricated by using the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique had been studied. It shown the p-NiO:Au/n-Si could be successfully used to construct and improve the performance of solar cells by using Au. The conversion efficiency was increased comparable with p-NiO/n-Si solar cells. In this case the NiO:Au layer acts as a hole collector as well as a barrier for charge recombination.
The characterization of ZnO and ZnO:In thin films were confirmed by spray pyrolysis technique. The films were deposited onto glass substrate at a temperature of 450°C. Optical absorption measurements were also studied by UV-VIS technique in the wavelength range 300-900 nm which was used to calculate the optical constants. The changes in dispersion and Urbach parameters were investigated as a function of In content. The optical energy gap was decreased and the wide band tails were increased in width from 616 to 844 eV as the In content increased from 0wt.% to 3wt.%. The single–oscillator parameters were determined also the change in dispersion was investigated before and after doping.
Statistical fluctuations of nuclear energy spectra for the isobar A = 68 were examined by means of the random matrix theory together with the nuclear shell model. The isobar A = 68 nuclei are suggested to consist of an inert core of 56Ni with 12 nucleons in f5p-space (2p3/2, 1f5/2 and 2p1/2 orbitals). The nuclear excitation energies, required by this work, were obtained through performing f5p-shell model calculations using the isospin formalism f5pvh interaction with realistic single particle energies.
