...Show More Authors

Background: Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a communicable disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since spread globally, leading to an ongoing pandemic.

Aim of study: to review the clinical, lab investigation and imaging techniques, in pediatric age group affected COVID-19 to help medical experts better understand and supply timely diagnosis and treatment.

Subjects and methods: this study is a retrospective descriptive clinical study. The medical records of patients were analyzed. Information’s recorded include demographic data, exposure history, symptoms, signs, laboratory findings, chest x- ray, and chest computed tomographic (CT) scans. Data were obtained with data collection forms from paper medical records.

Results:  there were 76 COVID-19 pediatric patients, 46.1% of those patients were within the age group 6 -10 years. The female to male ratio was 1:1, and 92.1% of them were living within the urbane area. About 60.5% of patients were pupils. Seventy-one (93.4%) patients of them had no comorbidity. Twenty (26.3%) patients were asymptomatic.  Regarding the duration of hospital stay, 39(51.31) patients had <7 days. All of the patients were nonsmokers. All patients had recovered and discharged from hospital after 2 negative real technique-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests, no death was reported. Only 16(21.1%) patients had severe symptoms.

Conclusions: the most common symptoms were fever, Cough, Loss of appetite, Shortness of breath & Fatigue. There was a statistically significant association between white blood cells counts, neutrophil number, Chest X-Ray results, with case severity and a statistically significant association between form of treatment in patients who received Oxygen, Oseltamivir, Azithromycin, Paracetamol, Dexamethasone, and case severity.

Clinical effects of Arabic gum (Acacia): A mini review
...Show More Authors

Gum Arabic is a natural gummy exudate gained from the trees of Acacia species (Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal), Family: Fabaceae. Gum Arabic considers as a dietary fiber with a high percentage of carbohydrates and low protein content. Sugars arabinose and ribose were originally discovered and isolated from gum Arabic and it is representing the original source of these sugars. A gum emanation from trees occurs under stress conditions such as heat, poor soil fertility, drought, and injury. Mainly gum is produced in belt region of Africa, mainly Sudan, Chad, and Nigeria. In the food industry, it is used in confectionery; in the pharmaceutical industry, it is used as emulsifier, film coating and others. Traditionally the g

BIOLOGICAL ASPECTS AND PREDATORY EFFICIENY OF PREDATOR Chilocorus bipustulatus (L.) COLEOPTERA :COCCINELLIDAE ON DATE PALM SCALE Parlatoria blanchardi (T.) DIASPIDIDAE: HOMOPTERA UNDER LABORATORY CONDITIONS.
...Show More Authors

Laboratory studies were conducted at the biological control unit, college of Agriculture, University of Baghdad to evaluate some biological aspects of the predator Chilocorus bipustulatus (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), which is considered one of the most important predators on many insect pests, especially the scale insect, Parlatoria blanchardi, (Homoptera: Diaspididae) on date palms. The results showed that biological parameters of the predator were varied according to different degree of temperature. Egg incubation period was significantly different and reached to 7.5 and 5.44 day at 25 and 30°C respectively, Fertility was the same 100% at both temperature degrees. Larval growth periods were 17.41 and 16.12 day as well as the mortality du

Relationship phonetics and musicology at the Ikhwan Al- Safa and at al – Farabi

Phonetics has close relevance with Musicology; in this study I decided explaining the interlinkages and harmony between Phonetics and Musicology. Linguists preceded philosophers in an attempt to link Phonetics with Musicology; the 1st serious attempt to link Phonetics with Musicology was done by Ibn Jeny (Dead 392 IC), but the real attempt is found with Farabi through his book under title Al Musiqa Al Kabeer, he defined music and link it with tune and relation between melody and tone, This is the same as pointed out by Ikhwan Al Safa who followed the doctrine of al-Farabi, their attention was with music and link it with phoneme, as they made music independent science, and they created special mathematics rules for it. Melody in music can

Human Adenosine deaminase is an essential enzyme for modulating the bioactivity of thyroid hormones, and It is important for the maturation and differentiation of lymphocytes, although its clinical importance in thyroid diseases have yet to be identified. Objective: The aim of the current study is to determine the Adenosine deaminase concentration in healthy controls, and in autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Graves' Disease, and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Patients and methods: A total of 183 serum specimens of 103 female patients with autoimmune thyroid diseases and 80 healthy control groups were included in this study and collected from the Baghdad Medical City, Iraq. Quantitative Human Adenosine Deaminase ELISA kits were used to estimate

Changes in the EEG amplitude as a biomarker for early detection of Alzheimer's disease
...Show More Authors

The rapid increase in the number of older people with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other forms of dementia represents one of the major challenges to the health and social care systems. Early detection of AD makes it possible for patients to access appropriate services and to benefit from new treatments and therapies, as and when they become available. The onset of AD starts many years before the clinical symptoms become clear. A biomarker that can measure the brain changes in this period would be useful for early diagnosis of AD. Potentially, the electroencephalogram (EEG) can play a valuable role in early detection of AD. Damage in the brain due to AD leads to changes in the information processing activity of the brain and the EEG which ca
