Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common GI disorders in people under 50 years of age.
Objective: To Formulate an overview about demographics of IBS and patterns of presentation, to determine IBS patients severity ranking, and to recognize the main regimens with their patient satisfaction.
Methods: This is a cross sectional clinical study that is conducted in Outpatient Consultant Internal Medicine Clinic in Al-Kindy Teaching Hospital from 11/12/2017 to 24/12/2017. The patients suffering from IBS are diagnosed by a consultant according to the symptom-based Rome criteria for functional GI disorders, by implementing a questionnaire collecting thorough information. 77 cases of IBS patients were collected (24 male and 53 female).
Results: This study revealed that majority of patients were female (68.8%). Most of the patients were married, employees and housewives, aged between (20-30 yrs). Most patients use anxiolytics, muscle relaxants and proton pump inhibitor. There is a high IBS prevalence among low educational level (high school graduates and non-school graduates).
Most patients in our study had constipation.
Aggravating factors Psychological factors (stress) are intrinsically associated with IBS and symptoms in a large percentage of patients.
Antispasmodics usage in our study show high effectiveness for IBS patients especially those with crampy abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Conclusions: Diagnosing and managing IBS can be a big challenge since many drugs used to reduce symptoms and severity, but also, they could be unnecessary medication that could aggravate bowel symptoms and have adverse effects on the long term.
Background: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a common disease, and a major determinant of morbidity and mortality in all races. The pleiotropic effects of the receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL) such as modulation of cell survival, mineralization and inflammation, make it an interesting candidate mediator in the progression and destabilization of atherosclerotic lesions. Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the role of RANKL in the pathogenesis of ACS.Methods: The levels of RANKL were measured by ELISA method in sera of 60 ACS patients, 31 patients with unstable angina (UA) and 29 patients with myocardial infarction (MI) in comparison with 20 apparently healthy controls. Results: Current data indicate

The rise in high-oncogenic risk HPV genotypes has been linked to various cancers, including those affecting the oral, oropharyngeal, and nasopharyngeal regions in both pediatric and adult populations. Methods: In this study, a cohort of 102 tonsillar tissue samples was included. This comprised 40 specimens from pediatric patients aged 4 to 9 years with nasopharyngeal adenoid hypertrophies, and 42 specimens from pediatric patients aged 5 to 12 years with palatine tonsillar hypertrophies. Among the 82 tonsillar tissue samples analyzed, 38 were from pediatric patients

Two diets were compared for 60 days: a conventional fish-meal diet (T1; 32.09% crude protein) and a diet in which the animal-protein component was replaced weight-for-weight with T. molitor meal (T2; 23.88% crude protein). Each treatment was tested in duplicate tanks containing 28 fingerlings per tank, and growth was assessed over three consecutive 20-day phases. The initial mean body weight was 3.21 g. Weight gain differed significantly between treatments (p < 0.05), with the highest total value recorded in T2 (4.87 ± 0.47 g). The T2 diet produced a significantly higher fee
