Comorbidity and Risk Factors for COVID-19 Confirmed Patients in Wasit Province, IRAQ
...Show More Authors

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is
one of the updated challenges facing the whole world.
Objective: To identify the characteristics risk factors that
present in humans to be more liable to get an infection
than others.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted for
positively confirmed 35 patients with polymerase chain
reaction in Wasit province at AL-Zahraa Teaching
Hospital from the period of March 13th till April 20th. All
of them full a questionnaire regarded by risk factors and
other comorbidities. Data were analyzed by SPSS version
23 using frequency tables and percentage. For numerical
data, the median, and interquartile range (IQR) were used.
Differences between categorical groups were performed by
fissure exact test.
Results: The median age of the patients was 43 years old
and interquartile range (25-56 years). Majority of the
patients were female (60%) and (51%) of them were from
the same region (AL-ezza). The dominant blood group
among patients was (O) (40%). About 11.4% of patients
had a travel history especially to Islamic Republic of Iran,
while (77.1%) had contact with positive cases. The highest
percentage of comorbidities among patients was
hypertension (40%), and the most presenting symptoms
were cough and fever. About 51% of patients were with
mild symptoms. Diabetes, coronary heart diseases, and
chronic renal diseases were significantly related to disease
severity (P-value=0.02, 0.001, 0.01 respectively).
Conclusion: Being a female, overweight or obese, and
with blood group (O) are the major risk factors among
patients. Comorbidities can play an important role in the
severity of disease especially hypertension, diabetes,
coronary heart diseases, and chronic renal diseases.

The Morphological description and histological structure of olfactory organ in barn owl have been studied. The results of morphological description showed that the olfactory organ in the animal under study have pair of external nares ovale shape which lead to pair of nasal chambers which are located at the dorsal surface of head under eyes level. The chambers are conical in their shape the anterior end is narrow while the posterior end is enlarger the nasal chambers open to the oral cavity through the internal nares.      The results also showed that the nasal cavity contains three chonchae which represented by rosteral chonchae, elongated middle chonchae and the posterior nasal chonchae called olfac

Plasma alkaline phosphatase polymer phism and it’s association with productivity in Iraqi fowl
...Show More Authors

Plasma alkaline phosphatase isozyme in Iraqi fowl was studied by acrylamide gel electrophoresis. Two phenotypes fast and slow, were observed. These two phenotypes have been shown to be controlled by one single autosomal locus with two allel AKPF and AKPS. The gene frequency of AKPS is dominant over the AKPF. The result indicated that gene frequency of AKPF in leghorn and new hamshire was more frequent than in local Iraqi birds. Birds of fast isozyme type had higher 90 – day's egg production and egg weights as compared to those with slow isozyme. It is concluded that the fast isozyme can be used as gene marker for spotting out pullets with high body weight sexual maturity, high egg production and high egg weight.

Evaluation of CD14 expression in Helicobacter pylori positive and Helicobacter pylori negative gastritis
...Show More Authors

Monocytes are considered a key mediator of inflammatory cytokine secretions during inflammation. This study evaluates CD 14 expression in gastritis tissue biopsies of H. pylori and none H. pylori gastritis. This cross-sectional study involved 60 gastritis patients that have been classified into H. pylori positive (n=30) and H. pylori negative (n=30). Formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue blocks were sectioned and immune-peroxidase staining with anti-CD14, then compared between study groups and clinical parameters. The results showed a marked difference in the percentage of expression in mild and severe intensity of inflammation sub-groups, the results showed a higher percentage of CD14 immunoreactivity (18.29±5.84 vs. 10.2±3.89, p=0.

Morphological and Growth Properties of Albino Rat Bone Marrow Stromal Cells In Vitro
...Show More Authors

The potential use of bone marrow stromal cells as a cellular therapy for chronic diseases relies on the ability of the cell to replicate extensively in vitro. For this reason the present study investigated the replication lifespan and examined the growth properties of albino rats mesenchymal stem cells(MSCS)in vitro. To establish an in vitro system for isolating and culturing the  MSCs of albino rats and to provide research data for its further application, the bone marrow (BM)was collected from young male rats and separated by gradient centrifugation. Then, the mononuclear cells(MNCs) were retrieved from the buffy layer and cultured in Modified Eagle,s Medium (MEM) supplemented with 10%Fetal Calf Serum (FCS)and incubation

In Vitro Assessment of the Antioxidant and Antitumor Potentials of Biogenic Silver Nanoparticle
...Show More Authors

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were biosynthesized using the cell free supernatant of putative probiotic Lactobacillus paracasei A26. Several biological activities of biogenic AgNPs were investigated in respect to in vitro anti-oxidant and anti-tumor potentials.  Anti-oxidant potentials were screened in terms of free radical scavenging activity against two free radicals, 2, 2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and resazurin dye. AgNPs exhibited a potent scavenging activity against resazurin dye (91±0.046%) with an EC50 concentration of 146.823 µg/ml, while scavenging of DPPH was significantly (P≤0.05) reduced to 72.330±0.114% using a higher EC50 concentration of 176.12 µg/ml.
