A Comparison between High Ablative Versus Usual Dosages of Iodine-131 in Inducing Hypothyroidism After One Year of Therapy in Hyperthyroid Patients

Background: Radioactive iodine-131 therapy is highly effective in treating patients with hyperthyroidism. An ablative dose is preferred by a number of endocrinologists, and, a fixed dose protocol seems to be better than a calculated dose in real practice.

Objective: To check for hypothyroidism in hyperthyroid patients one year after RAI therapy, comparing between the results of high ablative versus usual dosages of RAI-131.

 Methods:  This study included 174 hyperthyroid patients, 101 males and 73 females, divided into 2 groups, the first consisted of 162 patients given a usual fixed dose of RAI while the second consisted of 12 patients given a high fixed ablative dose of RAI. The study lasted about 2 years from August 2000 till July 2002 in the Specialized Centre for Endocrinology & Diabetes, Baghdad.

Results: Out of 162 patients in the first group, 11 patients (6.8%), developed hypothyroidism compared to 4 patients out of 12 (33.3% )  in the second group ( p < 0.05).

 Conclusion: A high ablative dose RAI has a better outcome regarding hypothyroidism than a usual dose, although, endocrinologists have different opinions regarding this issue.

Effect Exposure of Mobile Phone Radiation on Blood Parameters in Rats

Convergence Theorems of Three-Step Iteration Algorithm in CAT (0) Spaces

      In this paper, a modified three-step iteration algorithm for approximating a joint fixed point of non-expansive and contraction mapping is studied. Under appropriate conditions, several strong convergence theorems and Δ-convergence theorems are established in a complete CAT (0) space. a numerical example is introduced to show that this modified iteration algorithm is faster than other iteration algorithms. Study of Some Plasma Characteristics in Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) System

    In this present paper,  an experimental study of some plasma characteristics in dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) system using several variables, such as different frequencies and using two different electrodes metals(aluminium (Al) and copper (Cu)), is represented. The discharge plasma was produced by an AC power supply source of 6 and 7 kHz frequencies for the nitrogen gas spectrum and for two different electrodes metals(Al and Cu). The convergence of Iteration Scheme to Fixed Points in Modular Spaces

     The aim of this paper is to study the convergence of an iteration scheme for multi-valued mappings which defined on a subset of a complete convex real modular. There are two main results, in the first result, we show that the convergence with respect to a multi-valued contraction mapping to a fixed point. And, in the second result, we deal with two different schemes for two multivalued  mappings (one of them is a contraction and other has a fixed point) and then we show that the limit point of these two schemes is the same. Moreover, this limit will be the common fixed point the two mappings.

Traveling Wave Solutions of Fractional Differential Equations Arising in Warm Plasma

This paper aims to study the fractional differential systems arising in warm plasma, which exhibits traveling wave-type solutions. Time-fractional Korteweg-De Vries (KdV) and time-fractional Kawahara equations are used to analyze cold collision-free plasma, which exhibits magnet-acoustic waves and shock wave formation respectively. The decomposition method is used to solve the proposed equations. Also, the convergence and uniqueness of the obtained solution are discussed. To illuminate the effectiveness of the presented method, the solutions of these equations are obtained and compared with the exact solution. Furthermore, solutions are obtained for different values of time-fractional order and represented graphically.
