This study aimed at the investigation of abnormal liver and renal functions by biochemical manifestations of underlying metabolic abnormalities in relation to hyperglycemia in non-insulin-dependent diabetic patients. The study comprised 118 diabetic patients (56 males, 62 females) and 60 age-matched healthy non-diabetic controls (30 males, 30 females). All subjects were tested for serum levels of liver enzymatic indicators, which include aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), as well as non enzymatic parameters, including total bilirubin and total proteins.Also, serum levels of renal function markers, including microalbumin, creatinine, urea, and uric acid were measured.

The genus Ziziphus is one of the Family Rhamnaceae and consists of more than 170 species distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. All the species in the genus are of economical and medical importance. This study was conducted to identify the morphologically and anatomically features of the genus in Iraq.  The field survey was conducted across the study area where 4 species (Ziziphus jujube, Z. mauritiana, Z. nummularia and Z. spina-christi) were collected and used in the study.  The result showed that there is variation in morphological and anatomical features among the species in the stem cross-section and longitudinal section of leaves also the differences appeared in the epidermis of leaves.

Abstract

The current study aims to evaluate levels of metabolic hormones and lipid profile in a sample of growth hormone (GH) deficient patients. Seventy five GH deficient patients and twenty healthy subjects used as control group have been participated in this study during their attendance to the National Diabetic Center for Treatment and Research/Al-Mustansiriya University. The studied subjects’ ages were with a range (3-15 years). Blood samples were collected from the studied subjects to determine levels of basal GH, GH₂ and GH₃ after 1 hr and 1/30 hr provocation with clonidine, respectively; insulin like growth factor (IGF-1); levels of metabolic hormones [thyroid profile: triiodo
