Comparative study of anterior knee pain after patelloplasty with and without circumferential denervation in a total knee arthroplasty
...Show More Authors

Background: The anterior knee pain is an important chief complaint of the patients with knee osteoarthritis due to patellofemoral pathology. The pain receptors denervation can be achieved by circumferential denervation of the patellar area by a process of electrocautery.

Objectives: The aim of current study is to assess the pain after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) by patelloplastywith and without circumferential denervation via electrocautery at a minimum follow up with 1 year separately for each patient.

Type of the study:Cross- sectional study.

Methods: Thirty five patients, with mean age of about (62.8) years, were enrolled in this prospective, hospital based study that was held at Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital in Baghdad from October 2012 to November 2016. These patients were divided into 2 groups, first group was composed of 19 patients who have TKA with patellar circumferential denervation by electrocautery with  patelloplasty  by removing peripheral osteophytes of patella , the second group of 16 patients were undergone TKA without denervation, but only patelloplasty. The second group was considered as the control group. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to evaluate pain pre and post operatively. The patient’s functional ability was assessed by knee society score (KSS) also before and after TKA for both groups and pain killer was given according to patients need.

Results: All of the patients were followed for 12 months period. No drugs were used other than occasional use of pain killers in first month after operation for all patients in group one of study. On VAS scale, significant statistical difference in pre and post-operative scales were noticed between both groups of study.  The Knee Society Scale (KSS) was showing a non- significant statistical significance between both study groups before and after TKA. ConclusionA: nterior knee pain can be reduced through the use of patelloplasty with circumferential denervation of patella byelectrocautery, compared with non- denervated procedure. Good clinical outcome was also present.

Detection of the photon number splitting attack by using decoy states quantum key distribution system
...Show More Authors

The goal of this work is to check the presence of PNS (photon number splitting) attack in quantum cryptography system based on BB84 protocol, and to get a maximum secure key length as possible. This was achieved by randomly interleaving decoy states with mean photon numbers of 5.38, 1.588 and 0.48 between the signal states with mean photon numbers of 2.69, 0.794 and 0.24. The average length for a secure key obtained from our system discarding the cases with Eavesdropping was equal to 125 with 20 % decoy states and 82 with 50% decoy states for mean photon number of 0.794 for signal states and 1.588 for decoy states.

Experimental Investigation for the Removal of Toxic Gases from Vehicle Exhaust using Non-Thermal Plasma
...Show More Authors

In this study, the use of non-thermal plasma theory to remove toxic gases emitted from a vehicle was experimentally investigated. A non-thermal plasma reactor was constructed in the form of a cylindrical tube made of Pyrex glass. Two stainless steel rods were placed inside the tube to generate electric discharge and plasma condition, by connecting with a high voltage power supply (up to 40 kV). The reactor was used to remove the contaminants of a 1.25-liter 4-cylinder engine at ambient conditions. Several tests have been carried out for a ranging speed from 750 to 4,500 rpm of the engine and varying voltages from 0 to 32 kV. The gases entering the reactor were examined by a gas analyzer and the gases concentration ratio

Rapid Detection of Aspergillus flavus isolates producing aflatoxin using UV light on different culture media
...Show More Authors

This study included the isolation and identification of Aspergillus flavus isolates associated with imported American rice grains and local corn grains which collected from local markets, using UV light with 365 nm wave length and different media (PDA, YEA, COA, and CDA ). One hundred and seven fungal isolates were identified in rice and 147 isolates in corn.4 genera and 7 species were associated with grains, the genera were Aspergillus ,Fusarium ,Neurospora ,Penicillium . Aspergillus was dominant with occurrence of 0.47% and frequency of 11.75% in rice grains whereas in corn grains the genus Neurospora was dominant with occurrence of 1.09% and frequency 27.25% ,results revealed that 20 isolates out of 50 A. flavus isolates were able

Smart Sensing for Variable Pressure of Oil Well Safety Valve Using Proportional Pressure Control valve
...Show More Authors

Protection of the oil pipelineswhich extracted from the wells was found to shut the well and prevent the leakage of oil when broken using safety valve. This valve is automatically activated by loss of pressure between the well and pipelines, which take the pressure, signal from hydraulic pressure sensor through pressure control valve which has constant or variable value but it is regulated manually. The manual regulatory process requires the presence of monitoring workers continuously near the wells which are always found in remote areas. In this paper, a smart system has been proposed that work with proportional pressure control valve and also electronic pressure sensor through Arduino controller, which is programmed in a way that satisfie

Effect ofweight percentage chopped carbon fibers on the mechanism of cracks propagation for Epoxy composites
...Show More Authors

In this research, the mechanism of cracks propagation for epoxy/ chopped carbon fibers composites have been investigated .Carbon fibers (5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) by weight were used to reinforce epoxy resin. Bending test was carried out to evaluate the flexural strength in order to explain the mechanism of cracks propagation. It was found that, the flexural strength will increase with increasing the percentage weight for carbon fibers. At low stresses, the cracks will state at the lower surface for the specimen. Increasing the stresses will accelerate the speed of cracks until fracture accorded .The path of cracks is changed according to the distributions of carbon fibers

Adsorption of Levofloxacine Antibacterial from Contaminated Water by Non – Conventional Low Cost Natural Waste Materials
...Show More Authors

An experimental study was conducted with low cost natural waste adsorbent materials, barley husks and eggshells, for the removal of Levofloxacine (LEVX) antibacterial from synthetic waste water. Batch sorption tests were conducted to study their isothermal adsorption capacity and compared with conventional activated carbon which were, activated carbon > barley husks > eggshells with removal efficiencies 74, 71 and 42 % with adsorbents doses of 5, 5 and 50 g/L of activated carbon, barley husks, and eggshells respectively. The equilibrium sorption isotherms had been analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich, and Sips models, and their parameters were evaluated. The experimental data were correlated well with the Langmuir model which gives the
