Identification Of Gray Mold On Gerbera jamesonii Plants
...Show More Authors

Obviously, within the years  2004, 2005, 2006, several infection cases of  damping – off ,leaves ,flowers ,buds and petioles blight ,stem canker ,crown rot have seen on (Gerbera jamesonii) plants in nurseries and appears  dirty white(brown) color mold at the first and then convert to gray color on the foliage. The studying is carried out in two locations in Baghdad city which are Palestine Street (Al-Khirat, Al-Zina nurseries) and Zaiyuna (Zainab, Zaiyuna, Baghdad nurseries). The isolation and diagnosis were identified the causal pathogen was Botrytis cinerea. The pathogenicity test was carried out with positive results were positive resulted.  The infections percentage on gerbera plants ranged in the studied nurseries  between (40-70%), there were no significant differences in severity rates between nurseries.

planning and design of a tourist village in the marshes of southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

This study analyzes how to make use of the resources in the marshlands of Iraq and how to utilize them, especially after the water returns to these areas and they are revitalized. We take an example of AL- Saheen Marsh and plan an ideal tourist resort there. This example can further expand to include other parts of the marshlands. The resort will utilize the local environment and tourist characteristics as it will have a feel and architectural resemblance to the houses and buildings that are currently built there. In addition the transportation methods will be the same as those used by the locals. Yet the resort will still posses all the facilities required by a modern tourist resort that includes all the services that will make

Re-Use of Date Palm Wastes to Improve Aging of Composite Concrete System
...Show More Authors

The presented research aims to manipulate and improve the aging behaviors of concrete composite systems by employing ecologically safe date palm (seeds and husks) waste as a filler. In addition, optimized workability, durability, and erosion resistance properties for the new material were investigated.
The experimental work included the application of different mixing ratios (50/50, 30/70, and 70/30) of husk date/ date seeds to study the enhanced physicochemical behaviors and erosion resistant of bio-waste-concrete composite system exposed to severe temperature conditions (50 ºC) for a time period of 25 days. Optimum results were observed for samples reinforced with the natural filler with a ratio of 50/50 in comparison to the base

Determination of Surface Roughness and Accuracy of Alginate Impression Material Disinfected by Immersion
...Show More Authors

Background: This study was conducted to evaluate the surface roughness and dimensional accuracy of commercially obtainable alginate impression material in terms of imbibition after immersion in two different media. Materials and method: Two disinfecting agents, ethanol 70% and povidone-iodine 4%, were used to access the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness of alginate impression material. Weights of specimen discs of alginate impressions were measured before and immediately after immersion to gain a measure of imbibition. For surface roughness, disinfected specimens rectangle was examined before and after disinfection. Results: Minimal changes in weight were observed after disinfection, but a statistically non-significant differenc

A Multimodal Analysis of Hyperbolic Devices in Advertisements of Health and Beauty Products
...Show More Authors

This paper examines the use of one of the most common linguistic devices which is hyperbole. It shows how hyperbolic devices are used as an aspect of exaggeration or overstatement for an extra effect in which the speaker can use hyperbole to add something extra to a situation in order to exaggerate his idea or speech. It is, like other figures of speech, used to express a negative or positive attitude of a specific unit of language. Thus, this paper is set against a background of using hyperbole concerning two main fields (advertisements and propaganda). So, the use of hyperbole will be implied by analyzing them concerning their meaning) literal and non-literal).  Methodology of this

Evaluation of Fatigue Behavior of Epoxy Coatings used for Potable Water Storage Tanks
...Show More Authors

In this paper, three types of epoxy-based coatings (Polyamide, pure Polyamine, and Polyamine reinforced by glass-flake) used as a lining for potable water tanks were studied using experimental and finite element methods. Tensile, impact, and fatigue tests were conducted on uncoated and coated AISI 316 stainless steel. The test results show that the applied epoxy based coating improves the mechanical properties, increases of fatigue crack resistance, and enhance the dynamic fracture toughness. The fatigue crack propagation is influenced by the compositions of epoxy coating, and the glass-flake improves the coating resistance to fatigue crack propagation compared to other types.

A Study of the electronic structure of CdS Nanocrystals using density functional theory
...Show More Authors

Density Functional Theory at the generalized-gradient approximation level coupled with large unit cell method is used to simulate the electronic structure of (II-VI) zinc-blende cadmium sulfide nanocrystals that have dimensions 2-2.5 nm. The calculated properties include lattice constant, conduction and valence bands width, energy of the highest occupied orbital, energy of the lowest unoccupied orbital, energy gap, density of states etc. Results show that lattice constant and energy gap converge to definite values. However, highest occupied orbital, lowest unoccupied orbital fluctuates indefinitely depending on the shape of the nanocrystal.

Some Physico-Chemical Factors of Water of Al-Husainia Creek, Karbala Province, Iraq
...Show More Authors

The study of important physico-chemical factors of water of Al-Husainia creek during the period of May 2005 till the end of April 2006 indicated that water temperature showed clear monthly fluctuations ranged from 10 C° during January to 33 C° during August. Dissolved oxygen values ranged from 5.5 mg/ml during August to 14.8 mg/ml during January. Slight monthly changes were noticed in pH values, ranged from 7.7 during May to 9 during January. Also, slight monthly changes were recorded in salinity values which ranged from 0.67 ppt during October to 0.91 ppt during May. Clear fluctuation occurred in turbidity values which ranged from 12 cm during April to 177 cm during January. From the above results, it is clear that Al-Husainia cre

Statistical analysis of the removal of Chromium(VI)by Iron Oxide Nanoparticle (Fe3O4)
...Show More Authors

Investigation of the adsorption of Chromium (VI) on Fe3O4 is carried out using batch scale experiments according to statistical design using a software program minitab17 (Box-Behnken design). Experiments were carried out as per Box-Behnken design with four input parameters such as pH (2-8), initial concentration (50–150mg/L), adsorbent dosage (0.05–0.3 g) and time of adsorption (10–60min). The better conditions were showed at pH: 2; contact time: 60 min; chromium concentration: 50 mg/L and magnetite dosage: 0.3 g for maximum Chromium (VI) removal of (98.95%) with an error of 1.08%. The three models (Freundlich, Langmuir, and Temkin) were fitted to experimental data, Langmuir isotherm has bette

Biodegradation of Crude Oil in Contaminated Water by Local Isolates of Enterobacter cloacae
...Show More Authors

This paper study the ability of Enterobacter cloacae for degrading crude oil in contaminated water. Six isolates of E. cloacae were isolated from hydrocarbon contaminated soil and water of different sites. The isolate E. cloacae E1 showed the highest emulsification index (E24%) reached 62% thus it was chosen for further study. Biosurfactant produced by E. cloacae E1 reduced the surface tension of the medium from 64 to 36 mN/m. pH range 6.5 – 7 and temperature range 30˚C - 35˚C were the optimal conditions for maximum degradation. After 30 days of incubation, E. cloacae E1 degraded 70.00 ± 0.40% of the crude oil. GC-MS analysis revealed that E. cloacae E1 was able to degrade aromatic compounds. This study proved that E. cloacae E1 con
