Role of Omeprazole in Enhancement of Antibiotic Resistance in E. coli
...Show More Authors

E. coli was isolated, and it was Gram-negative rod bacteria that was colony circular, regular edged, thick somewhat glitter and  viscous(less). It was lactose fermenter bacteria and belongs the family of Enterobacteriaceae. E. coli showed sensitivity to all used antibiotics except Erythromycin (E), Cloxacellin (CX), Rifampin (RA), Cephalothin (KF), Ampicillin (AM), and Penicillin (P). The experimental results of antibiotic sensitivity of E. coli in media containing different concentrations of omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, showed an enhancement of resistance by decreasing the sensitivity of E. coli inversely with drug concentration against the antibiotics that E. coli was sensitive to. It seems that omeprazole changed cell membrane potential of E. coli which led to depolarization of cell membrane as a result of inhibition of the proton pump mechanism. This made the bacterial cell not willing to uptake antibiotics

Identification of Bacterial Strains Isolated from Patients with Urinary Tract Infection and the Role of Plasmids in their Antibiotic Resistance
...Show More Authors

One hundred fifty bacterial strains were isolated from patients with urinary tract infections (UTIs). They were belong to ten different species of gram-negative bacteria and to two genera of gram–positive bacteria. E. coli was the major causative agent and comprise 40% of all cases. Klebsiella pneumoniae and Proteus mirabilis were second and third with 18.67% & 18.0% respectively. Other gram-negative bacteria were belong to the genera Enterobacter, Acinitobacter, Pseudomonas, Citrobacter and Serratia. Ten cases (6.67%) were caused by genus Staphylococcus and seven (4.66%) were caused by Streptococcus. Out of the 150 positive cases, 96(64%) were from female patients, while 54(36%) were from males. High percentage of all

Genetic Assessment of Antibiotic Resistance in Salmonella Enteric a Serovar Typhi in Kirkuk Province
...Show More Authors

Around fifty isolates of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi were isolated from blood specimens of patients referring to several hospitals in Kirkuk province, Iraq. The results revealed that all isolates developed resistance to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and chloramphenicol. However, neither sul2 nor tem genes were detected. Moreover, only ten isolates were positive for catP. Our data suggested participation of other genes or mechanisms allow these multidrug isolates to resist the antibiotics in question.

Burn wound Infections and Antibacterial Resistance to Antibiotic in Baghdad, Hospitals
...Show More Authors

A total of 291 specimens were obtained from hospitalized and out patients. They were 10-70 years old, males and females suffering from burn wound infections, during the period29/4/2007–29/9/2007. InAl-Karekh-surgical-hospital&Al-Kadhemiatechinghospital   The most common single isolated pathogen was Pseudomonas aeruginosa %38.6 , Escherichia coli %23.7 Klebsiella spp. %12.2 , Staphylococcus spp. %2.19 and Proteas spp. %1.32.  As mixed isolates  Pseudomonas aeruginosa and  Escherichia coli %12.3, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella spp. %0.9 were found. The study isolats were highly resistant to chloromphenicol %10 Tobromycin %97.43, Gentamycin %87.14, Garamycin %83, Pipracellin %83, Penicillin %

Bacteremia in Ibn Al-Baladi hospital in Baghdad; Incidence etiology and antibiotic resistance of pathogens
...Show More Authors

60 cases of Bacteremia were documented at Ibn Al-Baladi hospital during 6 months (1-1-2002 to 1-7-2002), with an incidence of 5.2 were gram-negative organisms and most common one was Salmonella and Klebsiella. Incidence was significantly higher in male than female .Antimicrobial sensitivity tests revealed that isolated bacteria are with multiple drug resistance to commonly used antimicrobial agents. Salmonella showed high resistance to cephaloxin, co-trimoxazole and amoxicillin and also Klebsiella showed resistance to cephaloxin and amoxicillin.

The Dissemination of Multidrug Resistance (MDR) and Extensively Drug Resistant (XDR) among Uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) Isolates from Urinary Tract Infection Patients in Babylon Province, Iraq
...Show More Authors

Antibiotic resistance is a problem of deep scientific concern both in hospital and community settings. Rapid detection in clinical laboratories is essential for the judicious recognition of antimicrobial resistant organisms. So, the growth of Uropathgenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) isolates with Multidrug-resistant (MDR) and Extensively Drug-resistant (XDR) profiles that thwart therapy for (UTIs) has been detected and has straight squeezed costs and extended hospital stays. This study aims to detect MDR- and XDR-UPEC isolates. Out of 42 UPEC clinical isolates were composed from UTI patients. The bacterial strains were recognized by standard laboratory protocols. Susceptibility to antibiotic was measured by the standard disk diffusi

Antibiotic Resistant Gene Exchanged Between Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus
...Show More Authors

Escherichia coli  infections are becoming difficult treated because of extensive resistance to antibiotic among these organisms and manufacturing extended-spectrum beta lactamases enzymes (ESBLs) make them resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. This study aims to offer a summary of the main horizontal transmission  apparatuses  between E. coli as well as  Staphylococcus aureus and emergence resistance to antibiotics. Fifty of the E. coli and  50 of S. aureus isolates were examined to obtain minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) results. These isolates were then tested by  conventional polymerase chain-reaction for the existence or absenc

Detection of Resistance Genes (Blandm and Blavim) of Escherichia Coli in the Aquatic Environment
...Show More Authors

The study aims to detect the presence of carbapenems genes and the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant E. coli in the Tigris River. Samples were collected from three sites of the Tigris River: S1Adhamiya, S2 Medical city hospital, and S3 Abu Nuwas. It diagnosed 40 isolates of E. coli out of 67 isolates of bacteria by Vitek2. The antibiotic sensitivity was determined by the disk diffusion method. E.coli isolates were tested against 7 antibiotics these belonged to β-lactam, Carbapenem. Also, the resistance genes) blaVIM and blaNDM) detected for these isolates of E. coli.  The results appeared resistance of  E.coli against AMC 82.5%, PRL 62.5%, AM 55%, and moderate resistance

Antibiotic Resistance Patterns of Bacteria Isolated from Dechlorinated Water Samples
...Show More Authors

Chlorination has been the method of choice for disinfecting water used for drinking purposes. However, some stressed bacteria during chlorination are able to recover and alter the potability of water. This study assessed the recovery of stressed bacteria in dechlorinated water. Ten chlorinated water samples were collected from different points within Ilorin metropolis, Kwara, Nigeria. The samples (100ml) were dechlorinated with 0.1ml of 11.4mM sodium thiosulphate solution. The physicochemical characteristics of the chlorinated water samples were determined while bacteriological analyses were carried out on both chlorinated and dechlorinated water samples. The antibiotic susceptibility pattern of the isolates was determined using disc dif
