Radioactive elements were identified in samples of imported coffee consumed in the province of Basra using gamma spectrometry SAM940TM. It is a scintillation detector of NaI(Tl) crystal and the dimensions of 2×2 inch. We have identified specific concentration As(Bq/kg) and annual effective dose D(Sv/y) for radioactive elements (_^40)K, (_^131)I, (_^134)Cs and (_^137)Cs. The estimated average effective dose for adults from coffee samples were found to be 0.037mSv/y, 88.434nSv/y, 46.909nSv/y, 27.212nSv/y for ((_^40)K,(_^131)I,(_^134)Cs,(_^137)Cs) respectively. The present results of the study revealed that the radioactivity was relatively low in the coffee and within the permissiblelimit.

The present study conducted on 120 males obese and 50 healthy males, their age
ranged from 20-50 years. The patients were divided into 3 groups based on Body
Mass Index (BMI) and Central Obesity (CO.); it has noticed that there is a
significant relation between both indexes. Effect of the obesity on the lipid profile
was investigated, the results showed that there is an elevated in TG, TC, LDL-C,
VLDL-C and lowered in HDL-C for all three obesity groups compare with control

Various types of storing tanks are used to store municipal water at homes. This study was carried out to examine several water physical and chemical variables such as pH, EC, TSS and TDS after different storing periods. The obtained results showed no significant differences between the mean of pH values which ranged from 7.27 ± 0.04 in a water sample of galvanized tank after six days of storing to 8.10 ± 0.12 in water sample of aluminum tank after nine storing days. Field trial was conducted in Research Field equipped with rainfall transparent
shade, Biology Department, College of Science, Baghdad University during the
growing season of 2012 to test the potential of sorghum water extract in improving
yield and yield components of local cultivar of mung bean crop grown under
different moisture deficit stresses. The water stresses were applied by irrigated the
plots to field capacity and withheld the next irrigation until the soil water deficit
reaches 80, 50 and 30% of field capacity for control, mild water stress and higher
