This study is concerned with the adsorption of Congo red from solution on the surface of Chaff. The adsorption isotherm is of L-curve type according to Giles classification and the experimental data were best fitted to Langmuir isotherm model. The adsorption phenomenon was examined as a function of temperature (25, 40, 55 oC). The extent of adsorption of Congo red on Chaff was found to increase with the increase of temperature (endothermic process). The basic thermodynamic functions have also been calculated. The effect of contact time was investigated and found that the adsorption process of dye on Chaff surface reached complete equilibrium within 90 min. The maximum uptake of Congo red by Chaff was found to be 92.9% at 25oC. The kinetic data were well fitted to the Lagergren, pseudo-second order models. The results indicated that adsorption process followed the second order model. This behavior was discussed depending on the chemical structure of dye and Chaff surface. The kinetics of dye adsorption was also studied in terms of intraparticle diffusion model. The results indicated that intraparticle diffusion plays a significant role in the adsorption mechanism.
2-Mercapto quinoline was used as precursor for synthesis of new heterocyclic derivatives of
quinoline nucleus such as pyrazole (3), pyrazolone (4), 1,3,4-oxadiazole (5) and 1,2,4-triazole
(8). New Schiff bases (9a-e) were obtained from the reaction of hydrazide derivative (2) with
miscellaneous aldehydes and ketones. All synthesized compounds were characterized by
physical and spectral data.
Fifty isolates of Bacillus spp were obtained from rhizosphere soil of compositae
plant roots. The ability of inulinase production by these isolates was screened.
Bacillus Be9, which isolated from soil of lettuce root, was the highest inulinase
producer; it was identified as Bacillus cereus. Optimal culture medium and
condition for inulinase production were determinatd; the highest inulinase
production was obtained when the bacteria was cultured in inulin medium which
contained 0.5% inulin, 0.4% peptone as carbon and nitrogen source at pH 7.0
inoculated with 1ml of bacterial suspension and incubated at 40˚C for 48hrs.

Abstract This research investigates how activated carbon (AC) was synthesized from potato peel waste (PPW). Different ACs were synthesized under the atmosphere's conditions during carbonation via two activation methods: first, chemical activation, and second, carbon dioxide-physical activation. The influence of the drying period on the preparation of the precursor and the methods of activation were investigated. The specific surface area and pore volume of the activated carbon were estimated using the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method. If reliable values of γ∞1 and γ∞2 are available, either from direct experiment or from a correlation, it is possible to predict the composition of the azeotrope and vapor-liquid equilibrium over the entire range of composition. The analysis and efficiency of phenol extraction from the industrial water using different solvents, were investigated. To our knowledge, the experimental information available in the literature for liquid-liquid equilibria of ternary mixtures containing the pair phenol-water is limited. Therefore the purpose of the present investigation is to generate the data for the water-phenol with different solvents to aid the correlation of liquid-liquid equilibria, including phase diagrams, distribution coefficients of phenol, tie-lines data and selectivity of the solvents for the aqueous phenol system.
