Estimate Complete the Survival Function for Real Data of Lung Cancer Patients
...Show More Authors

In this paper, we estimate the survival function for the patients of lung cancer using different nonparametric estimation methods depending on sample from complete real data which describe the duration of survivor for patients who suffer from the lung cancer based on diagnosis of disease or the enter of patients in a hospital for period of two years (starting with 2012 to the end of 2013). Comparisons between the mentioned estimation methods has been performed using statistical indicator mean squares error, concluding that the survival function for the lung cancer by using shrinkage method is the best

Evaluation of Gene Expression Level of miRNA-29c, miRNA-125, miRNA-141, miRNA-145 and miRNA-205 as Predisposing Factors for Transitional Cell Carcinoma-Bladder Cancer in Iraqi Patients
...Show More Authors

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally. Transitional cell carcinoma(TCC) of the bladder Cancer (C) account 95 percent of bladder malignancies, with males having a greater prevalence than females. The current study sought to determine whether there is a link between miRNA-29c, miRNA-125, miRNA-141, miRNA-145 and miRNA205 expression levels and TCC/BC risk in Iraqi bladder cancer patients. In the current prospective cross-sectional investigation, 149 samples were collected (95 urine and 54 tissue biopsies). From November 2018 to August 2019, 37/95 urine samples were randomly taken from healthy persons. Total RNA was extracted from tissue and urine samples, and then converte

Background: Pulmonary masses represent a great challenge for diagnosis. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is one of the diagnostic methods which was used since long time.
Objectives: To concern on Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology of pulmonary masses regarding benefits, precautions and patient’s preparation to avoid possible complications.
Patients and Methods: A prospective study is carried out from December 2008 to July 2015 on 45 patients presented with pulmonary masses to the Department of the thoracic and vascular surgery at Al-Yarmook teaching hospital and from the private sector. A Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology was done for them under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure.
Results: 40 patients (88.9%) got acc

Robust Tests for the Mean Difference in Paired Data using Jackknife Resampling Technique
...Show More Authors

The paired sample t-test is a type of classical test statistics that is used to test the difference between two means in paired data, but it is not robust against the violation of the normality assumption. In this paper, some alternative robust tests are suggested by combining the Jackknife resampling with each of the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for small sample size and Wilcoxon signed-rank test for large sample size, using normal approximation. The Monte Carlo simulation experiments were employed to study the performance of the test statistics of each of these tests depending on the type one error rates and the power rates of the test statistics. All these tests were applied on different sa

Molecular detection of Human Papillomavirus genotype-16&-18 in tissues from patients with prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia
...Show More Authors

Background: High oncogenic-risk genotypes of human Papillomavirus (HPV) infect a wide range of human cells, including prostate tissue that give rise to benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatic adenocarcinomas.
Objectives: This study aimed to detect DNA of HPV genotype-16 &18 using in situ hybridization technique in prostatic tissues from benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatic adenocarcinomas, and elucidate the association between these HPV genotypes and prostatic carcinogenesis.
Patients and methods: Forty-eight (48) formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded prostatic tissue blocks were obtained ,among them (28) tissue biopsies from prostatic carcinoma with different grades and (20) benign prostate h

A Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm with System Reduction and Restoration for Rapid and Reliable Power Flow Solution of Power Systems
...Show More Authors

The paper presents a highly accurate power flow solution, reducing the possibility of ending at local minima, by using Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) with system reduction and restoration. The proposed method (RCGA) is modified to reduce the total computing time by reducing the system in size to that of the generator buses, which, for any realistic system, will be smaller in number, and the load buses are eliminated. Then solving the power flow problem for the generator buses only by real-coded GA to calculate the voltage phase angles, whereas the voltage magnitudes are specified resulted in reduced computation time for the solution. Then the system is restored by calculating the voltages of the load buses in terms

The development of better tools for diagnosis and more accurate prognosis of cancer includes the search for biomarkers; molecules whose presence, absence or change in quantity or structure is associated with a particular tumour or prognosis/therapeutic outcome. While biomarkers need not be functionally relevant, if cell survival, then they could also provide new targets for therapeutic drugs. In recent years attention has been applied to a group of proteins known as cancer testis antigens (CT antigens) [1]. These proteins are products of genes whose expression was normally confined to the testis, yet they are expressed in tumour cells. CT genes are bound to serve a wide array of roles in the testes, which have many highly differentiated cel
