Effect of Drought Stress on Barley ( Hordeum vulgare L.) in Germination Stage

The Present study was aimed to evaluate the responses of sixteen species of barley Hordeum vulgar L. cultivated in Iraq against drought stress through treatments of seedling with varying concentrations of Polyethylene glycol (PEG6000) to reach the water stress(-3,-6,-9) in addition to control (without PEG 6000). The results showed variation of barley species in their ability to tolerate the drought stress. For instance, Boraq and Arefat were shown to be the most tolerable species, since  their percentage of seeds germination were non significantly affected by the highest water potential (-9)  bar, while (bawadi,amal,nor alqadsea and nomar) were shown to be moderately drought tolerable, since their percentage of  seeds germination were significantly affected at water potential (-9)bar. In contrast, the rest of species,i.e. Alkhair,alwarkaa, ebaa99 ,shoaa ,alrafidian ,sameer ,rehana3 ,forat9 ,Jazera1 and ebaa7 species, were all shown to be the most drought sensitive species, since their percentages of seeds germination were significantly affected at-3  and -6 bar.The results also showed that the averages of seeds percentage germination ,root length, dry weight, vigor index lowered significantly at (-6,-9) bar but they were significantly affected in -3 bar, while plumule length  and fresh water significantly affected from -3 bar. The ratio of root to plumule length gave significantly increasment at -6,-9 bar and it was not affected significantly at -3 bar.        In conclusion, barley species showed great variation in their response to the different water stress, This means that, there was a wild range of barley riddling tolerating the drought in germination stage and seedling growth.

The effect of Sunn bug Eurygaster intgriceps infection of wheat on the Capability of bread making

The present study aims to identifying the effect of Eurygaster integriceps infection on the quality features of the local wheat varity IBA 99. The result revealed significant decrease in the percentage of protein of infected wheat at (4, 5)% compared to sound wheat values for the sound wheat were (10.9%) whereas those for the infected wheat were(9.0, 8.4 )% also the result revealed significant increased in the percentage of ash in the infected wheat flour. Effect of Partial Substitution of Lanthanum (La) on the Structural and Electric Properties of Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3xLaxO10+δ

In the current study, we investigate the effect of  (La) substitution  instead of (Cu) on the properties of the superconductor compound  (Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3-xLaxO10+δ)  with (x=0,0.05,0.1,0.15,0.2). Effect of Replacing Partial of Wheat Flour by Lentil Powder on Quality Properties of Laboratory Bread

Effect of Aqueous Extract of Pomegranate Fruit Peel Punica granatum on the growth of Oscillatoria amoena

The current study dealt with the effect of water extract of pomegranate peel plant on Oscillatoria amoena growth  that isolated from Diwaniya river, The effect of the pomegranate extract was measured by calculating the total number of cells and the absorbance values of the alga. Three concentrations were used 3.5, 7 and 14 mg/ml from extract of pomegranate fruit peel in addition to the control group. The results showed that exposing the alga to concentrate 14 mg/ml led to lower growth sharply, while the rest of the concentrations 3.5 and 7 mg/ml also decreased the growth gradually. The absorbance values showed a decline similar to the number of cells during the period of the exposure.
