Alienation in Adolescence in J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye
...Show More Authors

Alienation is a feeling that inflicts people especially adolescents due to certain reasons. As they grow up, adolescents tend to face certain psychological disturbances. They somehow feel indifferent to their surroundings and hence it would be quite hard for them to express their notions in the reality world they live in. So they either rebel against society and become aggressive members or they might console themselves in an alienated world that they create in their minds.

This paper depicts J.D. Salinger's (1919-2010) novel The Catcher in the Rye where its protagonist, Holden Caulfield, is an adolescent who feels there is no linkage or connection with the traits of his society. He is a teenager who portrays his innermost concerns and disillusionment toward a world that he feels unable to fit in. He likes to take decisive actions but feels helpless since his resolutions are thwarted by certain factors of life, e.g., parents, customs and social codes. He feels distant in his relationships with others and  absolutely baffled about the uncertainty of his future. Holden Caulfield clings to the innocence of the childhood world and feels total empathy toward children because they still have not been corrupted and shaped according to the mores of society.

Holden realizes that growing up, the maturing process, indicates that he should assume responsibility in a world where he thinks only superficial and insignificant issues occur. He like many others seems to have difficulty fitting into a world that seems disintegrated and filled with defacement. Holden is caught in the disturbed transition of his life-from the state of childhood into adulthood. He thus faces anxiety and alienation and wants to detach himself from all the false values surrounding him.

Holden's therapy at the hospital after his nervous collapse due to his alienation, makes him realize that life consists of limitless ambiguities. It is a mixture of the good and the bad. Hence, part of Holden's therapy is his realization that he cannot remove all the impurity and retrogression, but instead he must become part of the society that he rejects. His inference, by the end of the novel, is that life's mystery can only be solved and perceived if one fathoms the mistakes of others through the love and understanding of mankind.

Investigation of the relationship between matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase with SARS CoV-2 infections
...Show More Authors

SARS-CoV-2 stands for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 which is the causative agent of spreading coronavirus disease 2019 that is known as COVID-19 pandemic, the disease leads to severe acute respiratory illness. Matrix metalloproteinases- 9 (MMP-9) plays several important physiological functions. This enzyme could also be implicated in the "cytokine storm" in some way, which may represent one of the possible scianrios during coronavirus infection, in addition to its role in the mechanism of lung fibrosis on molecular basis.. The tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase (TIMPs) are well characterized for controlling the activity of MMPs in extracellular matrix remodeling. They also considered as signaling molecules anal

Synergistic Effect of Nanoparticles and Polymers on the Rheological Properties of Injection Fluids: Implications for Enhanced Oil Recovery
...Show More Authors

New nanotechnology-based approaches are increasingly being investigated for enhanced oil recovery (EOR), with a particular focus on heavy oil reservoirs. Typically, the addition of a polymer to an injection fluid advances the sweep efficiency and mobility ratio of the fluid and leads to a higher crude oil recovery rate. However, harsh reservoir conditions, including high formation salinity and temperature, can limit the performance of such polymer fluids. Recently, nanofluids, that is, dispersions of nanoparticles (NPs) in a base fluid, have been recommended as EOR fluids; however, such nanofluids are unstable, even under ambient conditions. In this work, a combination of ZrO2 NPs and the polyacrylamide (PAM) polymer (ZrO2 NPs–PAM) was us

Experimental Study to Investigate the Performance-Related Properties of Modified Asphalt Concrete Using Nanomaterials Al2O3, SiO2, and TiO2
...Show More Authors

The dual nature of asphalt binder necessitates improvements to mitigate rutting and fatigue since it performs as an elastic material under the regime of rapid loading or cold temperatures and as a viscous fluid at elevated temperatures. The present investigation assesses the effectiveness of Nano Alumina (NA), Nano Silica (NS), and Nano Titanium Dioxide (NT) at weight percentages of 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8% in asphalt cement to enhance both asphalt binder and mixture performance. Binder evaluations include tests for consistency, thermal susceptibility, aging, and workability, while mixture assessments focus on Marshall properties, moisture susceptibility, resilient modulus, permanent deformation, and fatigue characteristics. The problem of rebellion is considered one of the features of rapid changes that a society undergoes in all spheres and directions of life, especially in the realm of social relations, customs, traditions, values, and principles. Rebellion may manifest itself in rebellion against oneself, against values or traditions, or against social or governmental authority. One may find that submission plays a vital role in all of these interactions. This study deals with the problem of rebellion in the works of two renowned authors: The French Gustave Flaubert and the Israeli Amos Oz, through two main characters who share similar qualities and traits. Emma Bovary and Henna Konin demonstrate this through their rebellion against themselves, their relati
