...Show More Authors

Sommaire

Violence and aggression are recurrent and distinguished themes in the works of the French author Jean Genet. They find glorification in the criminal characters as well as the aggressive languages and vocabulary which eventually lead to inevitable cruel death. His plays simply tackle the current tragic situation of modern man.

Abstract

Most of the images and themes presented in his plays are inspired by the playwright’s personal life. With pessimistic tone and tragic endings, he presented to his audience an aggressive dialogue or event making evil as the main theme of his writings.

The current paper explores dialogue and plot in relation to violence and aggression in Genet’s Haute surveillance and Les Bonnes. Both plays represent the personal vision of the playwright and inspired by the cruel he lived in society and prison.

God created man with a social nature, that is, man cannot live alone, but there must be a society associated with him. And when God addressed Adam, the first of His creation, he addressed him with the speech of the Muthanna to him and his wife. “This tree, then you will be among the wrongdoers” (Al-Baqara: 35), and thus was the divine discourse for the first human experience on earth. It accommodates a social relationship, which is (the family), husband and wife. And since a person needs to meet, as Ibn Khaldun said: (The human meeting is necessary, and the wise men express this by saying (the human being is of course civil)) (). And as it is known that with the meeting, relations arise from love and hate, cooperation and struggle, a

Failure of Comedy in Waiting for Godot
...Show More Authors

Many critics suggest that Beckett’s early plays are comic because they focus their analyses on the use comic elements. Waiting for Godot is one of Beckett’s early plays, and it has been heavily analyzed and read as a comic text partly because its subtitle is “a tragicomedy in two acts” and also because of the comic techniques used in the play. The present paper, however, attempts to read the play as a piece in which comedy fails to produce any effects on the characters who remain apparently very desperate and frustrated throughout the play. The characters perform different comic acts, but they do not really feel amused or entertained. The paper suggests that the acts these characters put on stage are only means to pass t
