This study investigates the surgical and thermal effects on oral soft tissues produced by CO2 laser emitting at 10.6 micrometers with three different fluences 490.79, 1226.99 and 1840.4 J/cm2. These effects are specifically; incision depth, incision width and the tissue damage width and depth. The results showed that increasing the fluence and /or the number of beam passes increase the average depths of ablation. Moreover, increasing the fluence and the number of beam passes increase the adjacent tissue damage in width and depth. Surgeons using CO2 laser should avoid multiple pulses of the laser beam over the same area, to avoid unintentional tissue damage.

     Scattering and Absorption Efficiencies of Si-Ag Coaxial nanowire (NWs) were simulated using Mie-Lorentz scattering approach. The thickness of Ag shell was fixed at around 10 nm with Si core diameter of (10, 20, 30 and 40) nm.  Scattering Efficiencies  and Absorption Efficiencies  of core-shell nanowire as a function of wavelength (300-2000 nm) within various core diameters were calculated. The study shows a remarkable behavior of scattering for un-polarized light in Silicon nanowire (core only) with wavelength of (320- 500nm). In other words, adding Ag shell has decreased the scattering efficiency of core-shell nanowire for all diameters.

This study included collection of 100 specimens from patients in AL-Kindy Teaching Hospital and teaching laboratories of Medical City Hospitals in Baghdad during the period from August to December 2012 ,these specimens differed in their sources which included 19 nasal swab, 16 wound swab,27 burn swab, 7 pus, 15 sputum, 10 corneal swab and 6 urine . Only 38 (38%) isolates was identified as Staphylococcus.
