A new ligand type (O₂) [2,3-O-diacetyl-5,6-O-benzylidene L- ascorbic acid] [L] and its complexes of general formula [M(L)₂(X)(Y)]Cl_n (where: M=Cr^III ,X=Y=H₂O, n=3; Co^II, X = Y = 0, n= 2; Ni^II and Cu^II, X = Cl, Y = H₂O, n= 1; Zn^II, X = Y = H₂O,n = 2) are reported. The ligand was prepared in two steps; first step involved the synthesis of [5,6-O-benzylidene-L-ascorbic acid] (A). This study rigorously investigates three 3d transition metal carbide (TMC) structures via LDA and GGA approximations. It examines cohesive energy (Ecoh), Vickers hardness (Hv), mechanical stability, and electronic properties. Notably, most 3d TMCs exhibit higher cohesive energy than nitrides, and rs-TiC demonstrates a Vickers hardness of 25.66 GPa, outperforming its nitride counterpart.
