To cite the short stories of Kathrine Mansfield, all contain characters who are
revealed through their own thoughts. In her stories, the world is always seen through
the eyes of her characters in the form of points of view presented to the readers
through the characters' minds. This way of revealing characters and figuring out the
world, through the presentation of the characters' thoughts, is linked to the 'stream of
consciousness.' Kathrine Mansfield has been compared with Virginia Woolf in
particular in that both writers used the thoughts and the points of view of their
characters as material for their work through the stream of consciousness.
According to Leech and Short (1981), there are five linguistic techniques
available for the narrator to present his/ her characters' thoughts through. These are
the direct thought, the free direct thought, indirect thought, free indirect thought and
narrative report of thought act. The narrator is free to use any, some or all of these
techniques to inform the reader of what is going in the characters' minds to make him/
her aware of certain points of view.
The present paper attempts to present full exposition of the five techniques of
thought presentation mentioned above. This exposition is presented in the first section
of the paper. The paper mainly aims at making a stylistic analysis of thought
presentation by the five techniques in Mansfield's short stories. The analysis is done
by investigating and examining the corpus which consists of thirteen short stories
chosen randomly. The results of the analysis are presented through certain
conclusions supported by statistics and examples which are quoted extracts chosen
from the stories analysed. Almost each extract is accompanied by brief explanation of
part of the plot which the extract is concerned with. The brief explanation helps the
reader to comprehend both the extract and the conclusion arrived at.
The paper is of a linguistic value and a literary value. The linguistic value lies
in the full exposition of the five techniques of thought presentation and their
application on the literary corpus. A linguist can follow the same steps and apply the
five techniques on other literary works, whether short stories or novels. The literary
value lies in the analysis of the presentation of thought in a literary work (Mansfield's
short stories) since there is a close link between the presentation of thought and the
stream of consciousness which is a common technique of writing in many narrative
works.
The research aimed to find the effectiveness of teaching impact of the reflex learning strategy on the fifth class female student achievement of the geography content material). The researcher adopted the null hypotheses (there are no statistically significant differences at (0,05) level between the women score mean of the experimental group student who has been taught by the cement material assigned by the reflex learning strategy, and that of the control group who have been taught by the traditional method on the achievement test. The researcher adopted the post-test experimental design to measure students’ achievement. The population of the present study has been limited to the fifth literary class female stud

These cytokines are variable according to different conditions such as pathogenic infections which strongly stimulated the immune response. The present study aims to determine of IL1β and TNF-α in Toxoplasma gondii-free and infected women in an attempt to clarify the impacts of the infections on cytokines especially in mother's milk. The serum and milk sample were collected from 96 samples (48 for seropositive and 48 for seronegative). To confirm the Toxoplasma gondii infection; enzyme linked immunofluorescence assay (ELIFA) was used to detect anti-Toxoplasma Ig

Learning vocabulary is a challenging task for female English as a foreign language (EFL) students. Thus, improving students’ knowledge of vocabulary is critical if they are to make progress in learning a new language. The current study aimed at exploring the vocabulary learning strategies used by EFL students at Northern Border University (NBU). It also aimed to identify the mechanisms applied by EFL students at NBU University to learn vocabulary. It also aimed at evaluating the approaches adopted by EFL female students at Northern Border University (NBU) to learn a language. The study adopted the descriptive-analytical method. Two research instruments were developed to collect data namely, a survey qu

The purpose of the study is to analyze the extent of the impact of liquidity as an independent variable on profitability as an intermediate variable and the value of banks listed in the Iraq Stock Exchange as a dependent variable, as the research problem is summarized by the fact that most banks focus on profitability as a phased goal without focusing on maximizing its value as a strategic goal by enhancing the wealth of owners and shareholders. On the long term, the research community is represented by the banks listed on the Iraq Stock Exchange, while the research sample was deliberately chosen, which included three private banks such as Baghdad Commercial Bank, the Iraqi Commercial Bank and the Iraqi Investment Bank, an

The former one consists of three methods to solve the MLE non-linear equation by which the estimators of the maximum likelihood can be obtained: Newton-Raphson, Thom and Sinha methods. Thom and Sinha methods are developed by the researcher to be suitable in case of missing data. Furthermore, the Bowman, Shenton and Lam Method, which depends on the Three Parameters Gamma Distribution to get the maximum likelihood estimators, has been developed. A comparison has been made between the methods in the experimental aspect to find the best meth

The study also examines the relationship between writing achievement and writing strategy use among Iraqi secondary school students. For this purpose, 140 Iraqi secondary school students were selected randomly from six different schools. Petric and Czarl’s questionnaire (2003) was adopted in the study as an instrument to collect the needed data. A software of SPSS used to analyze the collected data. The findings revealed that secondary school students appeared as low users of writing strategies; low proficient students do not show a sta
