Chapter One – introduction

Nations managed today to achieve progress in the field of modern technology. Science has changed many beliefs and trendiness that people have held for long time, skills and scientific thinking developed, and made scientific observation  and experiment replace narration and taking from others. That is attributed to examining  the educational systems searching for the locations of defect, and shortage.

In the light of educational modernizations, many models of teaching incliuding a model for social tracing attributed to Herbart Thelen, which is a model to develop skills of social participation in the democratic process (Al-Khawalda,1993,335).

The aim of the current study is to identify the level of goal conflict with twelfth-grade students in South Sharqiah/ Sultanate of Oman according to gender and specialization. The study used the descriptive method. A scale of (28) items was developed and divided into six dimensions: time pressure, goal achievement, limit of power, limit of budget, incompatible strategies, and unclear task. To validate the scale, it was piloted (40) students. The scale was administered to a sample of (402) students (209) males in the Governorate of South Sharqiah. The research aims to find out the impact of cognitive strategies in the mathematical competence of the students of the fourth scientific in the preparatory mahmoudiyah in the Directorate General of The Education of Karkh 2. A post-test of the mathematical competence prepared by (Jassim, 2018) was applied to the sample of (65) students, distributed into two groups of (33) students as experimental group and (32) students as a control group. The results found there are significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in testing the mathematical competence of students for the experimental group.
