Social Satire in Harold Pinter’s Celebration

Harold Pinter was one of the most important dramatists in the modern and the
contemporary age. Pinter presented his own dramatic realm in which he turns the theatre into
a moral institution. He employed the elements of several schools of drama and manipulated
them in order to deliver his ethical messages emphasizing the necessity to regain and renew
the world's morality in order to face the political and social injustices committed against
humanity. His writings developed over more than fifty years in style, techniques and his
interests. However, his main concern was his social and political satire.

Politics in Harold Pinter's One for the Road

Pinter's play One for the Road (1984) is considered one of his important plays because
it focuses on political issues, which he has not presented overtly before. Generally speaking,
Pinter's early plays describe man's existential fear of an unnamed danger which might be
represented by an intruder who invades the characters' solitude , threatens their peace, and
brings their hidden fears to the surface. Pinter began to write political plays as a result of his
political attitudes and his involvement in political activities over the last three decades.

Man's Dilemma in Harold Pinter's Play The Birthday Party

 

     Harold Pinter often portrays the dilemma of obliterated figures that are incapable of feeling of their own existences. These figures feel exhausted and frustrated in a world that deprives them their humanity. They retreat into a limited world where they look for security and protection. The characters' feeling of security is threatened by outside forces represented by intruding persons who stand for the mysterious powers that are indefinable. Silence as a Means of Communication in Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker

Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker(1959) clearly portrays a lack of communication among the characters of the play which refers to the condition of modern man. This failure of communication led Harold Pinter to use a lot of pauses and silences in all the plays he wrote instead of words. Samuel Beckett preceded Pinter in doing so in his plays and one way to express the bewilderment of modern man during the 20th century is through the use of no language in the dramatic works. Language is no more important to modern man; instead, he uses silence to express his feelings. Silence is more powerful than the words themselves. Abstract
The image of the soldier, as a hero who sacrifices everything to defend his
country and values, is no longer depicted in modern drama. With two World Wars
and many regional wars and civil wars, the soldier becomes a victim, not a hero.
Authors present the character of the soldier as a man who suffers a lot as he is
victimized by his own government and its politics that forces him to be in such a

Verbal formulas in Turgut Özakman’s play Oh Those Young: Turgut Özakman'ın "Ah Şu Gençler" Başlıklı Tiyatrosunda Fiil Kiplerinin İncelenmesi

  The study sheds lights on the simple verbal formulas with its particular time suffixes as found in the Turgut Özakman’s play These Crazy Turks.

     The introduction of the study sheds light on the life of the author and playwright, as well as traces the different types of the verbal formulas in Turkish language.

     Oh Those Young is one of the most significant products of the Turkish literature of the young and Children where the literary messages of the playwright are addressed in a simple comic sarcastic style.
