Measurement of salivary Immunoglobulin A of participants with a healthy, gingivitis and chronic periodontitis conditions

Background: Secretory Immunoglobulin A (SIgA) is a subclass of Immunoglobulin A (IgA), It is an antibody that plays an important role in mucosal immunity. It is the main immunoglobulin found in mucous secretions from mammary glands, tear glands and salivary glands, every pathologic process in the body involves the immune system, and periodontal inflammation is one of them and is not an exception. Material and methods: this study was consisted of 60 healthy male participants of an age ranged between (35-50) years old ; 25 of them with generalized moderate chronic periodontists(Clinical Attachment Loss equal to 3-4mm at ≥ 30% of the sites; 20 participants with plaque induced gingivitis and 15 participants had clinically healthy periodontium as control group. oral examination include Plaque Index, Gingival Index, Probing Pocket Depth and Clinical Attachment Level were conducted for all participants four sites were examined for each tooth (labial ,lingual, mesial and distal), 2ml of unstimulated whole saliva was collected from all participants to measure Secretory Immunoglobulin A in µg /ml by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique. Results: salivary IgA(sIgA) mean was (356.3) µg /ml for the chronic periodontitis patients; while it was 202 µg /ml for plaque induced gingivitis patients and it was 129.2 µg /ml for the control group. Highly significant differences among the three group were recorded (P-value <0.001). For chronic periodontitis patients, the Plaque Index Gingival Index scores were positively highly significant correlated with Secretory Immunoglobulin A level in saliva. The Probing Pocket Depth scores were positively and significantly associated with Secretory Immunoglobulin A level. The Clinical Attachment Level scores were positively but non significant associated with Secretory Immunoglobulin A level. For the gingivitis and the control group they were positive non significant association between the periodontal parameters and the Secretory Immunoglobulin A level in saliva. Conclusion: there is a correlation between Secretory Immunoglobulin A level in saliva and the periodontal health status.

A New Series of Triazine-core Based Mesogenic Derivatives: Synthesis, Characterization and Mesomorphic Study

The synthesis, characterization and mesomorphic properties of two new series of triazine-core based liquid crystals have been investigated. The amino triazine derivatives were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR), 1HNMR and mass spectroscopy. The liquid crystalline properties of these compounds were examined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarizing optical microscopy (POM). DSC and POM confirmed nematic (N) and columnar mesophase textures of the materials. The formation of mesomorphic properties was found to be dependent on the number of methylene unit in alkoxy side chains.

Agenesis of flexor pollicis longus without thenar hypoplasia: a case report and literature review

Abstract<p>We present a case of congenital of flexor pollicis longus agenesis without thenar hypoplasia in a 12-year-old girl with no history of trauma. Two-staged corrective surgery was planned. In the first stage, the flexor pulley was reconstructed using silicone followed by the second stage 3 months later when flexor pollicis longus reconstruction was performed using tendon transfer of the flexor digitorum superficialis. The patient completed post-operative physiotherapy and the result of the surgical treatment in both functional and cosmetic aspects was, in the authors’ opinion, excellent.</p>

A New Spectrophotometric Method for Analysis of Allopurinol in Aqueous Solutions and Pharmaceutical Preparations

A new method for determination of allopurinol in microgram level depending on its ability to reduce the yellow absorption spectrum of (I-3) at maximum wavelength ( ?max 350nm) . The optimum conditions such as "concentration of reactant materials , time of sitting and order of addition were studied to get a high sensitivity ( ? = 27229 l.mole-1.cm-1) sandal sensitivity : 0.0053 µg cm-2 ,with wide range of calibration curve ( 1 – 9 µg.ml-1 ) good stability (more then24 hr.) and repeatability ( RSD % : 2.1 -2.6 % ) , the Recovery % : ( 98.17 – 100.5 % ) , the Erel % ( 0.50 -1.83 % ) and the interference's of Xanthine , Cystein , Creatinine , Urea and the Glucose in 20 , 40 , 60 fold of analyate were also studied .
