Depression status in relation to caries experience and salivary physiochemical characteristics among 15 years old students in Al-Swera city – Wassit Governorate-Iraq
...Show More Authors

Background: Depression is a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood;it can become chronic or recurrent and affect dental health .Thus this research aimed to assess the prevalence and severity of dental caries among students with different grade of depression in relation to physicochemical characteristics of stimulated whole saliva. Materials and methods: The total sample involved for depression status assessment is composed of 800 students for both gender aged 15 years old that were selected randomly , This was performed using children depression inventory (CDI) index that divided the students into four groups of depression(low or average grade, high average grade, elevated grade and very elevated grade). The diagnosis and recording of dental caries was by using decay, Missing, Filled surface index (DMFs); and according to the criteria ofManji et al (1989), Salivary samples was collected from 30 student with very elevated grade of depression and 30 from low or average grade under standardized conditions, then analyzed for measuring salivary flow rate and viscosity, in addition to estimation salivary elements that includes total protein, zinc, copper, chromium and Lithium. Results: the data of the present study showed that the percentage of Caries free students was higher among very elevated grade (8.60%) followed by low or average grade (8.52%), the less was among elevated grade of depression (5.04%).Concerning caries experience, the highest result was among elevated grade of depression followed by low or average grade, the lower result was among high average grade. While the sever grade of dental caries (D4) was found to be highly significant differ among different grade of depression, The data analysis of salivary elements found that the protein was higher in very elevated grade than low or average grade while other elements show the opposite result with significant concerning copper and zinc among very elevated grade that show significant difference. DMFs correlated negatively with salivary flow rate among low or average grade and very elevated grade; while concerning salivary viscosity, the correlation was direct with DMFs. With highly significant in very elevated grade, Salivary elements show positive relation with not significant except copper that show negative relation with significant. Conclusion: The results of the current research revealed that depression status had an adverse effect on salivary physicochemical characteristics and dental status including caries experience

The physiochemical properties are considered to be as important guidelines for quality of water and their use for social, agricultural and different ecological applications. Fourteen properties were investigated in this study, including (PH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved  Salts(TDS), Turbidity,Total Hard ness(TH),Sodium(Na),Calcium(Ca),Magnesium(Mg),Carbonate(CO3),Chloride (Cl),Phosphate(PO4),Nitrite(NO2),Nitrate(NO3),and Sulphate(SO4) for the wells water at Albualwan region in Al - Anbar province east of Iraq . The results showed that the studied properties recorded values since were (7.3,2230.5Ms\Cm ,869.5ppm,0.32NTU,521.31ppm,3.6gr\L,111.5ppm,139.05ppm,296.86ppm,  116 .6ppm,0.42ppm,0,02ppm,4.7ppm and 4

Determine the Groundwater Aquifers in Southwest of Samawah City, (Al Muthannā Governorate), Southern Iraq, by using 2-D Resistivity imaging survey
...Show More Authors

The 2-D Resistivity imaging survey conducted within the desert area to meet the region's need of groundwater, due to the absence of any surface water, in addition, there are no any geophysical studies carried out previously. Ten point survey was performed to study the ground water aquifers in the southwest of Samawah city, Iraq. The length of the survey line in each point survey is 1200 meters by using 120 electrodes with 10 meters electrode spacing by applying Wenner-Schlumberger array. There are three main resistivity zones in the study area. The first resistivity zone ranging between 2.00-10.1 ohm.m, locate at shallow depth, represented Quaternary deposits. The second resistivity zone ranging between 22.8-51.3 ohm.m, it represents bea

Impact of Glycated Haemoglobin on salivary glucose among type 1 diabetic mellitus patients aged 18-22 years
...Show More Authors

Background: Diabetes mellitus consists of a group of diseases characterized by abnormally high blood glucose levels. Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) is a form of haemoglobin used to identify the average concentration of plasma glucose over prolonged periods of time. It is formed in a non-enzymatic pathway by normal exposure of hemoglobin to high levels of plasma glucose, The main alterations observed in the saliva of Type 1 diabetic patients are hyposalivation and alteration in its composition, particularly those related to the levels of glucose. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of Glycated haemoglobin level on the level of salivary glucose which may have an effect on oral health condition. Materials and methods

Calculating Groundwater Recharge Using Water Balance in Mandaly City, Diyala Governorate, Eastern Iraq
...Show More Authors

Water balance approaches are strategies for resolving key theoretical and practical hydrological issues. The major goals of this study are to examine climatic elements and conditions to calculate groundwater recharge using the water balance approach. The study area is located in Mandaly city, Diyala Governorate, eastern Iraq. The metrological data was gathered between 1994 and 2020 to evaluate the study area's climate. The annual rainfall rate has been 248.61 mm, with a relative humidity of 43.89%, a temperature of 24.41 oC, a wind speed of 1.99 m/sec, sunshine of 8.32 hours per day, and evaporation of (268.09 mm). The total amount of corrected evapotranspiration was 1010.09 mm, with a peak value of 225.29 mm in Jul

Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C viruses are the major health problem in the worldwide. In the Middle East, the prevalence of HBV in general population with the chronic infectionsis 2-5%,whereas the prevalence of HCV is about 1% in Arabian Gulf countries. World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that the risks of HBV and HCV transmissionas well as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) through the transfusion of contaminated blood and blood products is high, because of the fragility of health services in these countries. Several viral diseases are transportby different modes like bloodtransfusion, sexual contact, and unsafe injections. The mostcommon blood-transmitted viruses are hepatitis B virus(HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and humanimmunodeficie

Trichomoniasis is a parasitic disease caused by the protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis. It is the most common sexually transmitted protozoal infection. There is no estimated of infection intensity among reproductive-age females. Further studies of the infection intensity of trichomoniasis and other vaginal infection will highlight the importance of this pathogen as a public health problem. A total of 614 females from Baghdad city were screened for T. vaginalis from March 2015 to September 2015. Females aged 13–61 years old provided vaginal swab specimens. The vaginal fluids extracted from these swabs were checked for the presence of T. vaginalis and other vaginal infection using microscopic examination. Overall, 525 (85.5%) of 614 was scr
