Load-deflection characteristics and force levels of coated nickel titanium orthodontic archwires

Background: Coated archwires have been introduced to improve esthetics during orthodontic treatment. Theaim of the present study was to evaluate and compare the load–deflection characteristics and force levels of six brands of coated nickel titanium orthodontic archwires using palatal and gingival deflection. Materials and methods: Ten round wires (0.016 inch) and ten rectangular wires (0.019x0.025 inch) were obtained from each of six brands (G&H, Opal, Ortho Technology, Dany, Hubit and Astar Companies). The load-deflection properties of these archwires were evaluated by the modified bending test usinga readymade dental arch model in both palatal and gingival directions at 37°C temperature using a universal material testing machine. Forces generated at maximum loading of 2mm and at unloading of 1.5mm were measured. Results: All the wires showed hysteresis and significant differences in their load deflection curves, but these differences were more evident in round wires than in rectangular wires where G&H wires showed the widest loading- unloading deflection curves. The maximum loading force of round wires in gingival deflection were higher than by palatal deflection. The force decline during unloading (plateau gap) ranged between 18 to 34% for round wires and 17 to 37% for rectangular wires. Conclusion: Coated epoxy wires (G&H, Opal, Astar and Ortho Technology) produced lower forces compared to polymer (Dany) and Teflon (Hubit) coated round and rectangular archwire.

Current–voltage and capacitance-voltage characteristics of Se/Si heterojunction prepared by DC planar magnetron sputtering technique

In this work, the effect of annealing temperature on the electrical properties are studied of p-Se/ n-Si solar cell, which p-Se are deposit by DC planar magnetron sputtering technique on crystal silicon. The chamber was pumped down to 2×10−5 mbar before admitting the gas in. The gas was Ar. The sputtering pressure varied within the range of 4x10-1 - 8x10-2mbar by adjusting the pumping speed through the opening control of throttle valve. The electrical properties are included the C-V and I-V measurements. From C-V measurements, the Vbi are calculated while from I-V measurements, the efficiency of solar cell is calculated.

Mitigation of collapse characteristics of gypseous soils by activated carbon, sodium metasilicate, and cement dust: An experimental study

The collapse behavior of gypseous soil brought from the north of Iraq (Salah El-Deen governorate) with a gypsum content of 59% was investigated using five types of additions (cement dust, powder sodium meta-silicate, powder activated carbon, sodium silicate solution, and granular activated carbon). Effects of Solvent Properties on Absorption and Fluorescence Characteristics of Two Organic Dyes Used as Random Gain Media

In this work, the effects of solvent properties on the characteristics of absorption and fluorescence for two laser dyes was studied. Dyes used in this work include Coumarin 5400 and DCM, while the solvents include ethanol, methanol, acetone, propanol and chloroform. Coumarin 5400 dye shows sharp fluorescence peaks in the green band of visible region while the DCM dye shows relatively wide band within 590-630 nm. Therefore, the selection of any dye for random gain medium applications should be performed after determining the most appropriate solvent as the optimum fluorescence characteristics are obtained.
