Augmentation of the localized bony defects with synthetic bone substitute in simultaneous dental implant surgery(Clinical study)
...Show More Authors

Background: Simultaneous and staged guided bone regeneration (GBR) is one of the several surgical techniques that have been developed in the past two decades to regenerate bone and thus to allow implant placement in compromised sites (fenestration and dehiscence). It is a surgical procedure that consists of the placement of a cell-occlusive physical barrier between the connective tissue and the alveolar bone defect. The treatment concept advocates that regeneration of osseous defects is predictably attainable via the application of occlusive membranes, which mechanically exclude non-osteogenic cell populations from the surrounding soft tissues, thereby allowing osteogenic cell populations originating from the parent bone to inhabit the osseous wound. Augmentation utilizing guided bone regeneration (GBR) has become a major treatment option to provide optimal bone to support Osseointegrated dental implants. One of the objectives of GBR is the formation of new bone at sites deficient in bone volume. Another objective is to treat fenestrations and dehiscence at implant surfaces as well as defects associated with simultaneous implant placement. GBR has allowed for placement of restorations at a more ideal location in the oral cavity, thus improving esthetics and functions. This study aimed to improve the alveolar ridge width by using of synthetic bone substitute covered by resorbable collagen membrane in simultaneous dental implants placement and to compare the ridge width at three levels (crestal, middle and apical) clinically (osteometer) and radiographically (CT) pre operatively and postoperatively. Materials and methods: This prospective study was conducted in teaching dental hospital in College of Dentistry of Baghdad University on (15) patients with (21) dental implant with insufficient bony support for simultaneous dental implants , this study extended from March 2013 to the end of December 2013. All patients were treated at the time of implantation by using a synthetic bone substitute covered by resorbable collagen membrane .All patients examined clinically by osteometer and radio graphics (CT) to assess ridge width and height and bone density. Results: Clinically and radiographically evaluation showed increasing of ridge width after 6 months of healing period at three levels: apical, middle and crestal, statistically, there were no significant differences between ridge width gain measured clinically and radio graphically and gender and age groups. In this study the success rate (95.24) % in (20) dental implant and only (1) dental implant was failed (4.76) % at age 47 years old. Conclusion: There was significant increase in ridge volume that augmented at the time of implantation to become sufficient width for support implant esthetically and functionally. This study revealed that there was no effect in gender and age on bone augmentation with synthetic bone substitute. Keywords: GBR, Simultaneous dental implant, osteometer, CT, ridge width and height and bone density.

Success rate of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention of Chronic Total Occlusion in Ibn Al-Baitar Hospital for cardiac surgery and Al-Nassyeria cardiac center
...Show More Authors

Back ground: Chronic total occlusion (CTO) of coronary arteries remains one of the most challenging lesion subsets in interventional cardiology even with the development of medical devices and operator expertise. Successful revascularization results in improved in angina status ,increased exercise capacity and reduces the need for lat CABG surgery .
Objectives: This study sought to determine the overall procedural success rate of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for CTOs and to examine the relation between variables such as; patients’ characteristics, risk factors, lesion characteristics and procedural success rate.
Methods: In this study ,clinical and coronary angiography data of (80) patients with CTO who underwent PCI

The Study of Prolidase Level and Some Biochemical Variables in Iraqi Patients with Acromegaly
...Show More Authors

Acromegaly is a condition that results from excessive growth hormone production by the anterior pituitary gland. Prolidase (PLD) is the only known human enzyme that can hydrolyze dipeptides with an amino acid at their C terminus. Reports indicate that PLD activity serves as a marker for oxidative stress in numerous disorders such as diabetes, diabetic neuropathy, chronic liver diseases, and osteoporosis. The current study aims to estimate the values of PLD, its correlation with the rest of the parameters, and ROC in acromegaly patients. A group of 61 patients with confirmed acromegaly were collected from the National Diabetic Center, Mustansyrriah University, and 60 control groups were analyzed in the same place for the par

The Role of Ginkgo biloba Extract as Monotherapy in Improving the Outcomes of Patients with Metabolic Syndrome: A Pilot Comparative Study with Metformin
...Show More Authors

The present study evaluates the effects of Ginkgo biloba extract as monotherapy on the glycemic status, insulin resistance (IR), body mass index (BMI), and visceral adiposity index (VAI), in addition to the inflammatory markers, oxidative status and leptin level in patients with metabolic syndrome in comparison with metformin.

The study is a randomized, double-blind pilot study conducted during the period May to September, 2020. Fifty patients were recruited in the study and they were allocated into two groups (25 per each group): Ginkgo biloba and Metformin groups, they received (120 mg Ginkgo biloba extract/ capsule) and (500 mg Metformin/ capsule) respectively; orally as a single dose for 90 days. Blood samples were taken at z

The Frequency of Some Colibactin Genes Amongst the Clinical Strains of E. coli Isolated From Urinary Tract Infections in Iraq
...Show More Authors

Escherichia coli has been recognized worldwide as the most common causative agent for severe infections of the urinary tract. Colibactin is a genotoxin produced through a gene cluster called polyketide synthase (pks) island by members of Enterobacteriaceae. Limited information is available about the frequency of colibactin in E. coli isolates in Iraq. Hence, this study aimed to examine the frequency of some colibactin genes (CIbA and CIbQ) in clinical isolates of E. coli obtained from urinary tract infections (UTIs) in Iraq. Between October 2023 and January 2024, 120 urine samples were collected from females diagnosed with UTIs in Iraqi hospitals. 70 E. coli isolates were isolated after identification by biochemical methods and confirmed by

Background: Several pathologies of the oral cavity have been associated with stress. Dental students need to gain assorted proficiencies as theoretical knowledge, clinical proficiencies, and interpersonal dexterity which is accompanied with high level of stress. Uric acid is the major antioxidant in saliva. The aim of this study is to assess the dental caries experience among dental students with different levels of dental environment stress in relation to physicochemical characteristics of whole unstimulated saliva.

Materials and Methods: the total sample is composed of 300 dental students (73 males, 227 female) aged 22-23 years old, from collage of dentistry / university of Baghdad, from the 4t
