The influence of recent adhesive onlay fabrication techniques on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated premolars (An in vitro study)
...Show More Authors

Background: Endodontically treated teeth have low resistance to fracture against occlusal forces. The strengthening effect of bonded esthetic onlay restoration on weakened tooth has been reported. This study aimed to assess the fracture resistance of endodontically treated premolars restored with composite with and without cuspal coverage by using direct and indirect techniques. Indirect technique done by CAD/CAM system (computer aided design –computer aided manufacturer) and laboratory processing. Material and methods: Forty human extracted maxillary premolars of approximately comparable sizes were divided into four groups: Group (A): Ten endodontically treated teeth directly filled with Filtek Z250xt without cuspal coverage. Group (B): Ten endodontically treated teeth prepared with onlay cavities and restored directly with Filtek Z250 XT. Group(C): Ten endodontically treated teeth prepared with onlay cavities and restored indirectly with Filtek Z250 XT. Group (D): Ten endodontically treated teeth prepared with onlay cavities and restored indirectly with Paradigm MZ100 CAD/CAM blocks. Fracture strength of the samples was measured by using universal testing machine (an axial compression test). Data were analyzed statistically by one way ANOVA test and least significant difference test, Results showed that Group A has the lowest fracture resistance value than all experimental Groups and the difference are highly significant. While Group B has a high significant fracture resistant value than the indirectly restored groups. Group C and Group D showed an approximate fracture resistant result (1.13KN and 1.07KN respectively) and the difference is statistically not significant. Conclusion All CAD/CAM composite onlay, indirect Filtek z250 XT and direct cuspal coverage survived maximum biting force for posterior single tooth, so these types of onlays provide good reinforcement in an extensive MOD cavities in premolars The mode of fracture for Group D was 90% restorable which is higher than group C (80%) restorable and group B (30%) restorable type of fracture.

An in vitro evaluation of the mineralization effect of a marine collagen supplement on early enamel lesions
...Show More Authors

The marine collagens are biocompatible and biodegradable materials that are considered as a biomimetic approach for tissue regeneration. This study evaluated the effect of daily consumption of marine collagen supplement drink on enamel white spot lesions (WSLs), comparing the results against Regenerate system and Sylc air abrasion methods. Fifty human enamel slabs were allocated into five groups (n = 10 per group): non-treated (sound); non-treated (WSLs, 8% methylcellulose gel with 0.1 M lactic acid (pH 4.6) at 37 °C for 21 days); and three treated surfaces with marine collagen; Regenerate system; and Sylc air abrasion. The treatment lasted for 28 days followed by four weeks’ storage in artificial saliva (pH = 7.0, 37 °C). Evalu

In Vitro Influence of Low-Power Diode Laser Irradiation Time on Human Red Blood Cells
...Show More Authors

Objective: The present study investigates whether the exposure to low-power diode laser induces denaturation in red blood cell (RBC) membrane protein composition, and determines the irradiation time for when denaturation of membrane protein process begins. Background: A low-energy laser has been used extensively in medical applications. Several studies indicated significant positive effects of laser therapy on biological systems. In contrast, other studies reported that laser induced unwanted changes in cell structure and biological systems. The present work studied the effect of irradiation time of low-power diode laser on the structure of membrane proteins of human RBCs. Materials and methods: The RBC suspension was divided into five equa

Study the Impact of Silica Nanoparticles on the Properties of Several Dyes for the Fabrication of a Random Laser Gain Medium
...Show More Authors

Random laser gain media is synthesized with different types of dye at the same concentration (1×10-3 M) as an active material and silicon dioxide NPs (silica SiO2) as scatter centers through the Sol-Gel technique. The prepared samples are tested with UV–Vis spectroscopy, Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), and Energy Dispersive X-ray Diffraction (EDX). The end result demonstrates that doped dyes with silica nanoparticles at a concentration of 0.0016 mol/ml have lower absorbance and higher fluorescence spectra than pure dyes. FESEM scans revealed that the morphology of nanocrystalline silica is clusters of nano-sized spherical particles in the range (25-67) nm. It is con

Photoacoustic Imaging for Tumor Detection: An in vitro Simulation Study
...Show More Authors

Photoacoustic is a unique imaging method that combines the absorption contrast of light or radio frequency waves with ultrasound resolution. When the deposition of this energy is sufficiently short, a thermo-elastic expansion takes place whereby acoustic waves are generated. These waves can be recorded and stored to construct an image. This work presents experimental procedure of laser photoacoustic two dimensional imaging to detect tumor embedded within normal tissue. The experimental work is accomplished using phantoms that are sandwiched from fish heart or blood sac (simulating a tumor) 1-14mm mean diameter embedded within chicken breast to simulate a real tissue.
