Dental Aerosol Hazard Prevention with Pre-procedural Antiseptic Mouthwashes (Comparative Study)
...Show More Authors

Background: One of the recommended methods for reducing aerosol contamination during the daily regular usage of high-speed turbine and ultrasonic scaling is the use of preprocedural mouth rinse. Several agents have been investigated as a preprocedural mouth rinse. Chlorhexidine significantly reduce the viable microbial content of aerosol when used as a preprocedural rinse. Studies have shown that cetylpridinum chloride (CPC) mouthwash is equally effective as chlorhexidine in reducing plaque and gingivitis. This study compared the effect of 0.07% CPC to 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX) as preprocedural mouth rinses in reducing the aerosol contamination by high-speed turbine. Materials and Methods: 36 patients were divided into three groups based on the preprocedural rinse used (0.2% CHX, 0.07% CPC and distilled water). Conservative treatment was done for 20 min. (10 min before rinsing and 10 min after rinsing) in the same closed operatory for all the patients after keeping blood agar plates opened at three standardized locations (patient chest, dentist chest and at 12-inch from patient mouth). Colony forming units (CFUs) on blood agar plates were counted, after incubation at 37°C for 48 hr. Statistical analysis was done with (SPSS version 21(. Results: This study showed that the two antiseptic mouthwashes significantly reduced the bacterial colony forming units (CFUs) in aerosol samples at three plates locations. Chlorhexidine rinses were found to be superior to cetylpridinum chloride when used pre-procedurally in reducing aerolized bacteria. The number of CFUs were higher at the patient’s chest location as compared to other locations. Conclusion: 0.07% CPC and 0.2% CHX were effective as a pre-procedural rinse in reducing CFU count during dental treatment using high-speed turbine.

NORM and hazard indices in soil and dates of palms groves in Baghdad Governorate, Iraq
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) is one of the world’s oldest cultivated fruit crops and belongs to the Arecaceae family. It originated in Mesopotamia (Iraq) in 4000 BC. Large areas of palm groves in Iraq produce various types of dates for internal consumption and export. Their cultivation has spread and has become a significant crop in the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and the Middle East. Date fruits are widely consumed in Iraq, and radiological monitoring of this crop is necessary as activity concentrations of 238U, 232Th, 40K, and 137Cs were measured in 12 soil samples and 12 date samples from </p> ... Sustainable development (SD) is an improvement that meets present needs but jeopardizes the ability of new populations to do the same. It is vital to acquaint EFL students with the terminology and idiomatic expressions of this discipline. Nowadays, sustainable development and the environment have been prioritized in every aspect of life. Since culture and the teaching of Foreign language English cannot be separated, the English language becomes the mean of communication in health, economics, education, and politics. Thus, integrating sustainable development goals within language learning and teaching is very important. This descriptive quantitative study aims to investigate the perception of EFL pre-service teachers of sustainable develo

Oral pre-treatment with Citronellol ameliorates Methotrexate-induced nephrotoxicity in Wistar rats via targeting oxidative stress and inflammation
...Show More Authors

Background Methotrexate (MTX) is a classical folic acid antagonist widely used in the treatment of malignant and non-malignant disorders. However, its clinical application is often restricted by concomitant adverse effects, including renal damage. Numerous studies have highlighted the role of oxidative stress and inflammation in mediating MTX-related nephrotoxicity. Therefore, the current study aimed to explore the possible renoprotective action of Citronellol (CT), a natural compound with prominent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, against nephrotoxicity induced by MTX. Methods To fulfill our objective, 24 adult male Wistar rats were randomly allocated into four groups: control, MTX, 100 mg/kg CT plus MTX and 200 mg/kg C
