Effect of Nd-YAG laser-irradiation on fluoride uptake by tooth enamel surface (In vitro)
...Show More Authors

Background: The irradiation of teeth with a laser results in an interaction between the light and the biological constituents of the dental hard substance, which is converted directly into heat. This thermal effect is the cause of the structural and chemical enamel changes. The combined treatment of topical fluoride agent with laser may increase fluoride uptake, and reduce progression of caries-like lesions. The aim of this study was to measure the uptake of the acidulated phosphate fluoride and sodium fluoride to the buccal and lingual caries-like lesion enamel surfaces before and after irradiated by Nd-YAG laser in comparison with matching control group. Materials and methods: The sample consisted of 30 human healthy upper premolar teeth which were stored in 0.1% thymol solution after extracted. Every tooth divided into: buccal and lingual specimen, each specimen has a rectangular window which was divided to right and left halves (120 specimens). The sample was divided into 2groups (60 specimens) for buccal surface, and the same for lingual surface. The caries-like lesion was formed for all groups except control (1) each group treated with either acidulated phosphate fluoride 1.23% or sodium fluoride 2%, (30 specimens) which contain other subgroups, these are: (10 specimens) one half treated with fluoride agent only and another half as control (first group as control (1) without caries-like lesion, and the second group control (2) with caries-like lesion, then de-ionized water only). (10 specimens) treated with fluoride agent then irradiated by Nd-YAG laser; one half with program (1) (short pulse), andanother with program (2) (long pulse). (10 specimens) irradiated by Nd-YAG laser; one half with program (1) and another with program (2) then treated with fluoride agent. The specimens of enamel were sectioned and the fluoride uptake was determined with using fluoride sensitive electrode. Results: There was a significant difference between the buccal and lingual enamel surfaces regarding the fluoride uptake in sound tooth, while a non- significant difference was observed after artificial caries-like lesion formation. Conclusion: Irradiation of Nd-YAG laser program (1) to the buccal and lingual caries-like lesion surfaces of enamel before application of fluoride agents (APF, NaF) was significantly increase fluoride uptake than that of using laser after the application of fluoride agent, as well as from using laser of program (2) after and before the application of fluoride agent, and from using fluoride agent alone in the buccal and lingual surfaces.

The Cyclic Fatigue Behavior for 6061-T6 Al Alloy Shafts Processed by Laser Shock Peening
...Show More Authors

The optimal combination of aluminum quality, sufficient strength, high stress to weight ratio and clean finish make it a good choice in driveshafts fabrication. This study has been devoted to experimentally investigate the effect of applying laser shock peening (LSP) on the fatigue performance for 6061-T6 aluminum alloy rotary shafts. Q-switched pulsed Nd:YAG laser was used with operating parameters of 500 mJ and 600 mJ pulse energies, 12 ns pulse duration and 10 Hz pulse repetition rate. The LSP is applied at the waist of the prepared samples for the cyclic fatigue test. The results show that applying 500 mJ pulse energy yields a noticeable effect on enhancing the fatigue strength by increasing the required number of cycles to fracture the

The effects of laser intensities on nonlinear properties for Ag nanoparticles colloid
...Show More Authors

A huge potential from researchers was presented for enhancing the nonlinear optical response for materials that interacts by light. In this work, we study the nonlinear optical response for chemically prepared nano- fluid of silver nanoparticles in de-ionized water with TSC (Tri-sodium citrate) protecting agent. By the means of self-defocusing technique and under CW 473 nm blue laser, the reflected diffraction pattern were observed and recorded by CCD camera. The results demonstrate that, the Ag nano-fluid shows a good third order nonlinear response and the magnitude of the nonlinear refractive index was in the order of 10−7 cm2/W. We determine the maximum change of the nonlinear refractive index and the related phase shift for the mat

Investigating the Effects of Carbon Dioxide Laser Fluence on Oral Soft Tissue
...Show More Authors

This study investigates the surgical and thermal effects on oral soft tissues produced by CO2 laser emitting at 10.6 micrometers with three different fluences 490.79, 1226.99 and 1840.4 J/cm2. These effects are specifically; incision depth, incision width and the tissue damage width and depth. The results showed that increasing the fluence and /or the number of beam passes increase the average depths of ablation. Moreover, increasing the fluence and the number of beam passes increase the adjacent tissue damage in width and depth. Surgeons using CO2 laser should avoid multiple pulses of the laser beam over the same area, to avoid unintentional tissue damage.

The Structure and Optical Properties of Ag doped CdO Thin Film Prepared by Pulse Laser Deposition (PLD)
...Show More Authors

At a temperature of 300 K, a prepared thin film of Ag doped with different ratios of CdO (0.1, 0.3, 0.5) % were observed using pulse laser deposition (PLD). The laser, an Nd:YAG in ?=1064 nm, used a pulse, constant energy of 600 mJ ,with a repetition rate of 6 Hz and 400 pulses. The effect of CdO on the structural and optical properties of these films was studied. The structural tests showed that these films are of a polycrystalline structure with a preferred orientation in the (002) direction for Ag. The grain size is positively correlated with the concentration of CdO. The optical properties of the Ag :CdO thin film we observed included transmittance, absorption coefficient, and the energy gap in the wavelength range of 300-1100
