Background: Pain is one of the most reported side effects of orthodontic treatment despite the advanced technology in orthodontics. Many analgesics have been introduced to control orthodontic pain including acetaminophen and selective and nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The great concern about these drugs is their adverse effect on rate of teeth movement. Aims: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the effect of acetaminophen, ibuprofen and etoricoxib on pain perception and their influence on the rate of teeth movement during leveling and alignment stage. Methods: Forty patients were evenly and randomly distributed in a blinded way to one of four groups: placebo (starch capsules), acetaminophen 500mg thrice daily, ibuprofen 400mg thrice daily, and etoricoxib 60mg once daily. The drugs were given one hour before bonding and archwire placement and continued for three days. A visual analogue scale was used to express pain levels before and after archwire placement, on the first, second, third, and seventh day. Little’s irregularity index was measured before bonding and at every activation visit until the end of the alignment and leveling stage. Results: All three drugs showed a lower pain level than placebo at the bonding and first activation visits. Etoricoxib showed the least pain level among other drugs followed by ibuprofen. No statistically significant differences were found between the drug groups and the placebo at the second and third activation visits. No statistically significant differences were detected between the 4 experimental groups concerning the rate of teeth movement. Conclusions: The three drugs were only effective in controlling pain during the first two visits of orthodontic treatment; and etoricoxib 60mg/day was the best. All three drugs had no influence on rate of teeth movement when used in their least recommended dose.

Abstract : Objectives: The aims of the study are to identify the condition causes respiratory failure in both sex and to find out the relationship between prognosis and mortality rate with condition causes respiratory failure. Methodology : Descriptive study was carried out in Al- Yarmook Hospital in Respiratory care Unit in Baghdad from the 1st of August 2003 to 1st of August 2004, the sample consist of 300 patients (150) males and (150) females, descriptive and inferential statistics procedures were applied to the data analysis Results : The results shows that 24.4% of patients effect by post-operative compl
characteristic tissues and cells, exerting their pharmacological aspects and alleviating a lot of diseased processes. Accordingly, this research is about introducing some isatins to be nucleophilically attacked at C3 forming products of azomethine ylide functionality. These iminium compounds were made by allowing certain isatins to be reacted with the secondary amino acid, proline, at acetic acid and methanol medium and then collected after purification to be identified with total Leukocyte count (TLC) and melting point. The structural characterization was performed by fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), and community health nursing (CHN) analysis. The present study was conducted to perform pre-clinical safety evaluation and study the pharmacological effects of the ethanolic seeds extract of A. precatorius in management of pain, psychiatric and neurological conditions. Acute toxicity was performed to study the general behavioural pattern of mice after treatment with the test extract (single doses of 1000, 2000, 3000,4000,5000 mg/kg, body weight) and sub-acute toxicity studies were performed to study the toxic effects of the test extract (1000,2000,3000 mg/kg, per os for 14 days) on different haematological parameters, body and organ weight and histopathology of liver and kidney.
