Effect of Optiglaze Coating on the Staphylococcus aurous and Porosity of Heat Cured Acrylic Material
...Show More Authors

Background: Polishing technique for acrylic resin material have great effect on properties of acrylic material and bacterial colonization such as staphylococcus aurous, which are responsible for many acrylic prosthetic infections such as the commonly ocular infections. Ineffective polishing technique could affect roughness and subsequently porosity of acrylic materials. So, a new effective method for polishing acrylic was used depending on the use of optiglaze coating material. So, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of optiglaze polishing on porosity of acrylic resin material and staphylococcus aurous activity in comparison to conventional polishing technique.

Materials and methods: Specimen(n=120) were prepared :20 specimens constructed as circle shaped diameter 30mm with 1 mm thickness for porosity  test (10 control polishing by conventional technique and 10 polishing by optiglaze technique). Other 82 specimens were prepared as circle specimen (6mm diameter and 1mm thickness) for sensitivity and adherences test ( each test have 20 specimens10 control and 10 optiglaze) and 42 specimens for viability test for three dilution,21 specimens for control and 21 for optiglaze (7 specimens for each dilution). Porosity were tested by light microscopic while agar well technique, adherence test and viability count test were tested for antibacterial activity of optiglaze against staphylococcus aurous.

Result: The high mean value for porosity test was recorded by control while low mean value was recorded by optiglaze group with significant differences between them. Sensitivity and adherence test high mean value recorded by optiglaze with highly significant differences in comparison to control. Viability count test all dilution 10-7 ,10-6, 10-5 showed highly significant reduction in viability count of staphylococcus aurous by optiglaze group in comparison to control. Conclusion Polishing technique by Optiglaze significantly decrease porosity of acrylic resin and this method inhibited growth of staphylococcus aurous, and decrease its viable count (have antibacterial effect) but had less effect in adherence of this bacterial in comparison to control.

Charge Stratification and Fuel/Air Ratio Effect on the Efficiency of (ICADE) I. C. Engine Cycle
...Show More Authors

The Isolated Combustion and Diluted Expansion (ICADE) internal combustion engine cycle combines the advantages of constant volume combustion of the Otto cycle with the high compression ratio of the Diesel cycle.   This work studies the effect of isolated air mass (charge stratification) on the efficiency of the cycle; the analysis shows that the decrease of isolated air mass will increase the efficiency of the cycle and the large dilution air mass will quench all NOx forming reactions and reduce unburned hydrocarbons. Furthermore, the effect of Fuel / Air ratio on the efficiency shows that the increase of Fuel / Air ratio will increase efficiency of the cycle.

Annealing temperature effect on the structural and optical properties of thermally deposited nanocrystalline CdS thin films
...Show More Authors

A nanocrystalline CdS thin film with 100 nm thickness has been prepared by thermal evaporation technique on glass substrate with substrate temperature of about 423 K. The films annealed under vacuum at different annealing temperature 473, 523 and 573 K. The X-ray diffraction studies show that CdS thin films have a hexagonal polycrystalline structure with preferred orientation at (002) direction. Our investigation showed the grain size of thin films increased from 9.1 to 18.9 nm with increasing the annealing temperature. The optical measurements showed that CdS thin films have direct energy band gap, which decreases with increasing the annealing temperature within the range 3.2- 2.85 eV. The absorbance edge is blue shifted. The absorption

Evaluating the effect of natural, industrial juices and beverage on orthodontic bonding composite (in-vitro study)
...Show More Authors

Background: Dental erosion is a common oral condition which results due to consumption of high caloric and low pH acidic food such as carbonated drinks and fruit juices. It is expected that these food types can cause irreversible damage to dental hard tissues and early deterioration of the dental restorations. So, this study aimed to evaluate and compare the erosive potential effects of orange fruit juice and Miranda orange drink on the microhardness of an orthodontic composite material. Materials and methods: Thirty discs with a thickness of 2 mm and a diameter of 10 mm were prepared from orthodontic bonding composite. The prepared discs were equally divided into three groups (n=10). Microhardness analysis was carried out both prior to

pvl-carried methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from hospitalized patients in Baghdad, Iraq
...Show More Authors

Out of 150 different specimens, 67 S. aureus isolate were isolated. However, 16sRNA gene was located only in 60 isolates. Moreover, mecA gene was located in 48 isolates; thereby MRSA covered 80% of all S. aureus isolates. Of considerable interest, pvl gene was detected in only six isolates (10%). Hence, the present work emphasizes the notion suggested that pvl is not an indicative of CA-MRSA.
