Background: Oral Lichen planus (OLP) is a T-cell mediated chronic inflammatory oral mucosal disease of unknown etiology. Recent studies have reported an increased oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in such patients. This suggests that reactive oxygen species may have a role in the pathogenesis of lichen planus. Oxidative stress in OLP release molecules consisting of granzymes resulting in local tissue damage in the effectors. Antioxidants that can defend against oxidative stress in the body cells include enzymes, as well as non- enzymatic antioxidants, such as melatonin, uric acid, vitamin A and E. Purpose: To study the level of salivary vitamin E and uric acid as antioxidant agents in patients with OLP and compared with healthy control. Methods: Twenty five patients with OLP were enrolled in this study. Age, gender, occupation, smoking status (smokers or non-smokers), lesion types, duration, location and size were recorded for each patient. After an oral examination, salivary samples were collected and flow rates (ml/min) were recorded. The collected samples were centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 10 minutes; the clear supernatants were separated and stored frozen at (-20 c) until analysis. Then salivary vitamin E was investigated using ELISA kit based on bioten double antibody sandwich technology. Uric acid was analyzed using a proprietary enzymatic reaction mixture that enables the detection of uric acid by the production of a red chromogen, which is quantitatively measured at a wavelength of 515 or 520 nm. Results: The mean age of OLP patients was 48.3 years with a range of 30-60 years. Control group consisted of 35 healthy subjects who were age matched with OLP patients. Fourteen (56%) patients were with reticular and 11 (44%) were with erosive form, with the buccal mucosa was the most commonly affected site (88%), followed by tongue (8%) then gingiva (4%). A significantly lower salivary flow-rate, lower salivary vitamin E and uric acid level in OLP patients compared to control; while, no significant difference was seen between reticular and erosive type of OLP for both vitamin E and uric acid level. Regarding gender, no differences were found between males and females in salivary vitamin E. No significant correlation was found between vitamin E /uric acid and age. Similarly, no difference was found between males and females in uric acid. Conclusion: Salivary anti-oxidant markers represented by vitamin E and uric acid decreased in OLP patients due to increase oxidative stress which may have an important role in the pathogenesis. Thus, it is recommended to give OLP patients anti-oxidant agents that may either help in healing process or decreased the severity.
Parkinson’s disease (PD) consider as a progressive ageing neurodegenerative disease, Parkinson’s consider as a heterogenous disease, with mainly initiate through correlation between genetic and epigenetic by inducing of different factors on some related genes, these factors like (environmental, toxicants, nutrition, heavy metals, pesticides, some drugs) and also(trauma on head ,strokes) in addition to unknown reasons which cause an idiopathic PD .Current study aims to focusing on specific related PD gene called SNCA by single nucleotides polymorphism (rs2619363) as a risk factor for PD initiation disease in PD patients in addition to study the effect of polymorphisms on random Iraqi patients with different gastrointestinal

This study assess the frequency of acute radiodermatitis and record the predictive factors for acute radiodermatitis. Patients and Methods: A descriptive case series study conducted at Baghdad, Iraq from August 2020 to September 2021. 70 female scheduled for radiotherapy sessions enrolled in this study. sociodemographic data were recorded and Skin examination before radiotherapy and weekly till the end of the radiotherapy sessions was done to report the frequency, risk factors, clinical picture and grades of acute radiodermatitis based on The National Cancer Institute’s Common Terminology Crite
... Show MoreAcute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) is a leading cause of hospital admission and many factors are known to precipitate decompensation. We aimed to assess the decompensating factors of heart failure and the management of patients admitted to the emergency department (ED). A total of 107 patients were examined, all diagnosed with ADHF in the ED of the Baghdad Teaching Hospital, from June 2017 to December 2017, and presenting with decom¬pensation (pulmonary oedema, peripheral oedema, and fatigue). The mean patient age was 62.5 ± 9.8 years (range: 43–85 years); the majority of them were in their 7th decade (37.4%), and men were slightly more than women. Hy¬pertension was the most commonly associated comorbidity (68.2%), follow
... Show MoreLimitations of the conventional diagnostic techniques urged researchers to seek novel methods to predict, diagnose, and monitor periodontal disease. Use of the biomarkers available in oral fluids could be a revolutionary surrogate for the manual probing/diagnostic radiograph. Several salivary biomarkers have the potential to accurately discriminate periodontal health and disease. This study aimed to determine the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of salivary interleukin (IL)‐17, receptor activator of nuclear factor‐κB ligand (RANKL), osteoprotegerin (OPG), RANKL/OPG for differentiating (1) periodontal health from disease and (2) stable a
To use quality indicators to study the management of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in different regions.
Prospective cohort study of STEMI within 24 h of symptom onset (11 462 patients, 196 centres, 26 European Society of Cardiology members, and 3 affiliated countries). The median delay between arrival at a percutaneous cardiovascular intervention (PCI) centre and primary PCI was 40 min (interquartile range 20–74) with 65.8% receiving PCI
The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact two doses of Menaquinones-7 on hepatotoxicity induced by doxorubicin in rats. Sixty adult rats of both sexes were used in this study; the animals were randomly enrolled into six groups of 10 animals each. Group I: negative control (rats administered distilled water); Group II: Menaquinones-7 at a dose of 16 µg/kg; Group III: Menaquinones-7 at a dose of 48 µg/kg; Group IV: positive control (Doxorubicin 15 mg/kg); Group V: Menaquinones-7 at a dose of 16 µg/kg administered prior to a single dose of Doxorubicin 15 mg/kg; Group VI: Menaquinones-7 at a dose of 48 µg/kg administered prior to a single dose of Doxorubicin 15 mg/kg. On day twelve of the study, blood was
