Salivary vitamin E and uric acid in patients with OLP and healthy individuals
...Show More Authors

Background: Oral Lichen planus (OLP) is a T-cell mediated chronic inflammatory oral mucosal disease of unknown etiology. Recent studies have reported an increased oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in such patients. This suggests that reactive oxygen species may have a role in the pathogenesis of lichen planus. Oxidative stress in OLP release molecules consisting of granzymes resulting in local tissue damage in the effectors. Antioxidants that can defend against oxidative stress in the body cells include enzymes, as well as non- enzymatic antioxidants, such as melatonin, uric acid, vitamin A and E. Purpose: To study the level of salivary vitamin E and uric acid as antioxidant agents in patients with OLP and compared with healthy control. Methods: Twenty five patients with OLP were enrolled in this study. Age, gender, occupation, smoking status (smokers or non-smokers), lesion types, duration, location and size were recorded for each patient. After an oral examination, salivary samples were collected and flow rates (ml/min) were recorded. The collected samples were centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 10 minutes; the clear supernatants were separated and stored frozen at (-20 c) until analysis. Then salivary vitamin E was investigated using ELISA kit based on bioten double antibody sandwich technology. Uric acid was analyzed using a proprietary enzymatic reaction mixture that enables the detection of uric acid by the production of a red chromogen, which is quantitatively measured at a wavelength of 515 or 520 nm. Results: The mean age of OLP patients was 48.3 years with a range of 30-60 years. Control group consisted of 35 healthy subjects who were age matched with OLP patients. Fourteen (56%) patients were with reticular and 11 (44%) were with erosive form, with the buccal mucosa was the most commonly affected site (88%), followed by tongue (8%) then gingiva (4%). A significantly lower salivary flow-rate, lower salivary vitamin E and uric acid level in OLP patients compared to control; while, no significant difference was seen between reticular and erosive type of OLP for both vitamin E and uric acid level. Regarding gender, no differences were found between males and females in salivary vitamin E. No significant correlation was found between vitamin E /uric acid and age. Similarly, no difference was found between males and females in uric acid. Conclusion: Salivary anti-oxidant markers represented by vitamin E and uric acid decreased in OLP patients due to increase oxidative stress which may have an important role in the pathogenesis. Thus, it is recommended to give OLP patients anti-oxidant agents that may either help in healing process or decreased the severity.

Improving Voltage Stability in Kurdistan Power System in Areas with Deficit Power Production by Rescheduling the Active Power Based on PSS/E Simulation
...Show More Authors

This paper aims to improve the voltage profile using the Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) in the power system in the Kurdistan Region for all weak buses. Power System Simulation studied it for Engineers (PSS\E) software version 33.0 to apply the Newton-Raphson (NR) method. All bus voltages were recorded and compared with the Kurdistan region grid index (0.95≤V ≤1.05), simulating the power system and finding the optimal size and suitable location of Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM)for bus voltage improvement at the weakest buses. It shows that Soran and New Koya substations are the best placement for adding STATCOM with the sizes 20 MVAR and 40 MVAR. After adding STATCOM with the sizes [20MVAR and 40MV

Influence of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity on the Ionospheric Sporadic-E Layer Over Baghdad

Abstract<p>This study examines the monthly mean diurnal variations of the ionospheric sporadic E (Es) layer’s critical frequency (foEs) and virtual height (h′Es) above Baghdad city (latitude 33.3˚N, longitude 44.4˚E) during Solar Cycle 22 (1988–1995). The analysis examines their correlation with solar activity, represented by sunspot numbers, and geomagnetic disturbances, particularly during the descending phase of the cycle. The findings revealed that foEs values were the highest during the solar maximum years (1989–1991), aligning with increased sunspot numbers and geomagnetic activity due to coronal mas</p> ... Secure E-Voting System Utilizing Fingerprint Authentication, AES-GCM Encryption and Hybrid Blind Watermarking
...Show More Authors

Ensuring security, integrity, and reliability of the election process consider as the main challenges in the electronic voting system. This paper describes the e-voting system by integrating the biometric authentication, advanced encryption, and watermarking techniques towards meeting such challenges. The system employs the fingerprint authentication by utilizing the Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) for verifying the identity of the voter to ensure genuineness and non-repudiation of the service. The vote will be encrypted with the AES-GCM technique to be employed in securing the voting process, thus ensuring both data privacy and integrity. Hybrid Blind Watermarking employs the technique of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) a

Mixed ligand metal complexes are synthesized from oxalic acid with Schiff base, and the Schiff base was obtained from trimethoprim and acetylacetone. The synthesized complexes were of the type [M(L1)(L2)], where the metal, M, is Ni(II), Cu(II), Cr(III), and Zn(II), L1 corresponds to the trimethoprim ((Z)-4-((4-amino-5-(3,4,5- trimethoxybenzyl)pyrimidine-2-yl)imino)pentane-2-one) as the first ligand and L2 represent the oxalate anion (𝐶􀬶𝑂􀬶 􀬶􀬿) as a second ligand. Characterization of the prepared compounds was performed by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic measurements, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, FT-IR, and Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectral studies.
