Background: Congenital defects in continuity of the intestine are morphologically divided into either stenosis or atresia and constitute one of the most common causes of neonatal intestinal obstruction.
Patients and methods: This is a prospective study for analyzing (60)neonates with jejunoileal atresia who were managed at Children Welfare Teaching Hospital in Baghdad over a three years peroid extending from 1st January 2004 to 1st January 2007.
Results: Thirty six patients (60%) had jejunal atresia while ileal atresia was in(24) patients(40%).The most common type of jejunoileal atresia was type IIIa (38.3%) of the cases and the second was the type II (25%).The clinical presentation for jejunal atresia was mainly bilious vomiting and occurred in(100%)of the cases, while failure of passing meconium in the first day of life was the most common presentation in ileal atresia and occurred in (91.7%). Abdominal distention is more frequent in ileal atresia (87.5%) in comparism to (50%) in jejunal atresia. The number of males was (35) and the number of females was (25) and the male: female ratio is 1.4:1. The most common surgical complications were anastomotic leak and wound infection. There are several other factors contributing to the increased mortality rate such as delayed in diagnosis, associated anomalies, neonatal septicemia and aspiration pneumonia.
Conclusion: Jejunal atresia most commonly presents with bilious vomiting while ileal atresia presents with abdominal distention and failure to pass meconium in first day of life. The most common type of the atresia in our study was type IIIa while type IV is the rarest. There are several surgical procedures used in the treatment of atresia but wide proximal resection and end to end anastomosis was the commonest procedure done.
Background: The first month of life is the most vulnerable period and mortality during this period is an important component of under-5 mortalities. Causes of death in this period are preventable like sepsis, RDS, and asphyxia, while others are not like multiple congenital abnormalities.
Objectives: To study the death rate and main causes of death in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the Children Welfare Teaching Hospital (CWTH) through the period (2018-2021).
Patients and methods: The death per year for the four years of the study and causes of death were collected retrospectively and analyzed for total death rate and rate for each year, sex distribution, male-to-

Also, seizure-free patients with ASD have been found to have a higher prevalence of epileptiform discharge abnormalities compared to healthy controls across investigations. Changes in the electroencephalogram (EEG) can manifest as sharp waves or spikes, sharp and slow waves, generally distributed or general area, or focused, and can manifest in various brain regions. There is a necessity to search for a distinctive EEG characteristic in ASD patients.

Objectives: Determine the age and gender distribution of children who experience diabetes mellitus (DM) under
the age of 15 years and the presence of some associated factors that might be a predisposing factor for the
disease including obesity.
Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted at diabetic clinic in Children Welfare Teaching Hospital
in Baghdad City during 2006. The study sample included diabetic children less than 15 years of age. Data were
taken from the patients' record and by direct interview with the patients' parents. Information included
demographic data, as well as past history of the patient and his/her family relative to diabetes and other immune
diseases.
Results: Data analysis showed t
Back ground: This is a prospective study of Head injury in Najaf.
Aim: to study the causes & out come & way of transferring the rat to the hospital & best way to investigate them.
Patients & methods:A prospective analytical study of 200 cases of Head injury patients, who were admitted to Saddam Teaching Hospital , in Najaf between 18 t" of November 1996 and 1st of September 1998.
Results: All age groups were included in this study, male to female ratio was 4:1 and the highest incidence was seen at the age group below 14 years. The two most common causes of
head injury were road traffic accident (RTA)(51 %) and assault (22%),of RTA pedestrians accounted for (87.25%). RTA accounted of (8
Background: Transient tachypnea (TTN) is a common disorder of the newborn. It is characterized by the
early onset of tachypnea sometimes with retractions or expiratory grunting and occasionally cyanosis that is
relieved by minimal oxygen supplementation (<40%).
Objectives: To identify the risk factors and describe the clinical characteristics, treatment and outcome of
infants with TTN.
Patients and methods: This study was carried out on 100 newborn babies with birth weight of 2500 to 4000 &nbs
Objective(s) : This study aimed at evaluating the seroprevalence of anti -HCV and studying the
correlation between hemophilia and risk factors for acquiring HCV such as age , marital status &
occupation among hemophilic patients .
Methodology : 210 hemophilic patients in children welfare teaching hospital/medical city/Baghdad–Iraq
(hemophilia center) were investigated using prepared questionnaire and tested for HCV infection, those
were measuring patient’s age, hemophilia types and severity, marital status, residency and history of
previous HCV infection .
Results : Most hemophilic patients were hemophilia A at severe , hemophilia was at age group 20 – 29
years , the majority of patients were unmarried a
Background and Objectives:
Poisoning is an important cause of childhood and adolescence hospital emergency presentations and admissions and a major health problem in this population sector. The
present study was designed to describe the epidemiology and pattern of poisoning in addition to its case fatality rate.
Methods:
A total of 1450 pediatric cases with poisoning admitted to the Central Teaching Hospital of Pediatrics, Baghdad, during the 10 years study period extending from the 1st of
January 1993 to 31st of December 2002, were analyzed.
Results:
The peak age for poisoning cases in the present study was 1-4 years, constituting about three quarters of total pediatric admissions with poisoning.
Background: Idiopathic autoimmune thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) is an isolated thrombocytopenia in a patient with no clinically apparent associated conditions or factors that can
cause thrombocytopenia. The syndrome of ITP is caused by platelet-specific auto-antibodies that bind to autologous platelets. The diagnosis of ITP is usually a diagnosis of exclusion based on a demonstration of peripheral thrombocytopenia. Steroids are the conventional first-line therapy for adult ITP. Most patients demonstrate a response to steroids within 2 to 4 weeks, but a late response is possible.
Patients and Methods: A prospective study on 50 patients with diagnosis consistent with ITP, initially treated by steroid, p

Objectives: To identify demographic and clinical predictors, and outcome of proved cases of H1N1 influenza epidemic in children.
Patients and methods: This study was conducted in Children Welfare Teaching Hospital/ Medical City/ Baghdad on 67 hospitalized patients aged 1 month to 18 years with signs and symptoms suggestive of influenza during the period of outbreak of pandemic influenza A (H1N1) from 1st of October 2009 to 1st of January 2010.
