Role of Two- Dimensional Speckle Tracking Strain versus Conventional Echocardiography in the Assessments of Left Ventricular Systolic Function in Middle-aged Hypertensive Patients.
...Show More Authors
Background: Global longitudinal strain (GLS) echocardiography is a new technique that can be used to  detect an early left ventricular dysfunction in various heart diseases . Systemic hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular accidents. The early management of its complication on the heart plays  an
important role in the outcome of the disease. Hypertension is associated with changes in several aspects
of left ventricular structure, function, and systolic strains. Various echocardiographic techniques are used to evaluate left ventricular function in hypertensive patients.
Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of speckle tracking global left ventricular strain percentage  (GLVS%) in the assessments of left ventricular systolic function in comparison to conventional  echocardiography in middle -aged hypertensive patients.
Patients and Methods:  The study was conducted from December 2017 till November 2018 at the  Department of Echocardiography and Catheterization / Baghdad Teaching Hospital – Medical C ity,Baghdad, Iraq. One hundred and four hypertensive patients classified as ; group I that involved patients with reversed E/A ratio on PW Doppler with reversed Pulsed Wave ( PW) tissue Doppler study and group II with patients
having normal E/A ratio on PW Doppler and reversed Eprime/A prime on PW tissue Doppler study . The control (group III) recruited from the relative of the patients included 104 sex and age -matched healthy individuals . A detailed history with the recommended investigations and blood pressure measurements
was performed for all participants. Additionally, echocardiography examination was implemented using  standard methods, considering eftventricle (LV) internal dimension, LVejection fraction percentage (LV EF%)
, LV diastolic function using PW Doppler and lateral mitralannular tissue Doppler Sprime,Mitral annular plane systolic excursion (MAPSE) and global LVspeckle tracking strain percentage (GLVS%).
Results: Group I included 76 patients with a mean age of (48 ± 6.6 years) and group II included 28 patients with a mean age of (48 ± 6.6 years). A ll the participants had normal EF% (> 60%), MAPSE (>13 mm),  and S prime (> 9 cm /sec) while there were a significantly decreased GLVS% in the diseased groups  in  comparison to the control one (P < 0.005) being less in group II (-14 ± 1 %) than in Group I (- 16 ± 1 %) . In  addition to a significant negative linear correlation between GL V S% with that of pulse pressure and IVST respectively ( p=0.04) and with that of E/A ratio and E/E prime ratio (p=0.001).
Conclusions: GLVS% is a better method in the assessment of LV systolic function in inmiddle- aged
hypertensive patients than conventional echo methods since it could detect an early impairment in LV
systolic function despite preserved LV systolic function measured by the conventional echo methods

Study of Laser Propagation Parameters in the Underdense Plasma Region Using a Two Dimensional Simulation Code
...Show More Authors

The propagation of laser beam in the underdense deuterium plasma has been studied via computer simulation using the fluid model. An appropriate computer code “HEATER” has been modified and is used for this purpose. The propagation is taken to be in a cylindrical symmetric medium. Different laser wavelengths (1 = 10.6 m, 2 = 1.06 m, and 3 = 0.53 m) with a Gaussian pulse type and 15 ns pulse widths have been considered. Absorption energy and laser flux have been calculated for different plasma and laser parameters. The absorbed laser energy showed maximum for  = 0.53 m. This high absorbitivity was inferred to the effect of the pondermotive force.

Computational Method for Unsteady Motion of Two-Dimensional Airfoil
...Show More Authors

A numerical method is developed for calculation of the wake geometry and aerodynamic forces on two-dimensional airfoil under going an arbitrary unsteady motion in an inviscid incompressible flow (panel method). The method is applied to sudden change in airfoil incidence angle and airfoil oscillations at high reduced frequency. The effect of non-linear wake on the unsteady aerodynamic properties and oscillatory amplitude on wake rollup and aerodynamic forces has been studied. The results of the present method shows good accuracy as compared with flat plate and for unsteady motion with heaving and pitching oscillation the present method also shows good trend with the experimental results taken from published data. The method shows good result

The effect of toxoplasmosis on renal function in hemodialysis patients
...Show More Authors

Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite; it spreads via the circulatory system during infection and causes chronic infection in various organs. Toxoplasmosis affects nearly one third of people worldwide, especially immunocompromised people. This study aimed to determine the effect of toxoplasmosis on renal function in hemodialysis patients. Overall 300 patients referred to the Medical City, Al-Karama General Hospital, Baghdad, Iraq were enrolled from 2021 to 2022. All serum samples were tested for T. gondii immunoglobulins (IgG and IgM) antibodies, urea and creatinine levels. In patients undergoing hemodialysis, the results revealed a high positivity percentage for anti-Toxoplasma IgG. In hemodialysis patients infe

A PARTICULAR SOLUTION OF THE TWO AND THREE DIMENSIONAL TRANSIENT DIFFUSION EQUATIONS
...Show More Authors

A particular solution of the two and three dimensional unsteady state thermal or mass diffusion equation is obtained by introducing a combination of variables of the form,
η = (x+y) / √ct , and η = (x+y+z) / √ct, for two and three dimensional equations
respectively. And the corresponding solutions are,
θ (t,x,y) = θ0 erfc (x+y)/√8ct and θ( t,x,y,z) =θ0 erfc (x+y+z/√12ct)

Reinterpretation of the two-dimensional seismic reflection of the Afaq structure region, central Iraq
...Show More Authors

This study deals with interpretation of stratigraphic and structural of Afaq structure area central Iraq in Qadisiyah province, about 25 km north of Diwaniyah, by using 2D seismic data. Synthetic traces are prepared by using available data of the well (WK-1)using a petrol software program to define and picking the reflectors on the seismic section. Structure interpretation includes picking a top of Zubair Formation (Late Cretaceous), while stratigraphic interpretation includes two reflectors Yamama and Gotnia Formation (Upper-Late Jurassic). Structure interpretation of Zubair Formation shows that the area a several minors and a short extend of faults, the fault system extends (NE-SW) direction. The structural interpretation of time and d

Azithromycin Versus Co-trimoxazole in The Treatment of Doxycycline Resistant Acne Vulgaris In Iraqi Patients
...Show More Authors

Background: Acne is a multifactorial disease with multiple pathogenic factors. Many types of therapies are available including systemic antibiotics , choosing the appropriate one depend on the experience of the doctor , side effects , antimicrobial resistance , availability and cost. Although doxycycline is effective and commonly prescribed as first line systemic treatment for moderate to severe inflammatory acne vulgaris , some cases do not respond because of antimicrobial resistance.

Objective: To evaluate and compare the effectiveness and safety of azithromycin and co-trimoxazole in the treatment of acne vulgaris cases that are resistant to doxycycline  in Iraqi patients.
