Background: Bladder carcinoma is one of the most common cancer worldwide, it accounts for 6.5% of all cancers, with highest incidence in industrialized countries .It represents the fourth most common cancer in men and the eighth in women. Bladder carcinoma depends in its pathogenesis on a combination of genetic and environmental factors, these factors produce phenotypic changes that allow normal transitional cells to become cancerous and finally acquire the “malignant phenotype". Many attempts had been tried to explore the role of some genetic abnormalities encountered in bladder carcinoma. It has indicated that many genetic abnormalities may underline the pathogenesis of cancer evolution of urinary bladder like VEGF , P53, Bcl2 and RB, but nowadays a scientific efforts have raised the possible role of Her-2/neu in bladder carcinoma, and the rate of its overexpression in bladder carcinoma is ranging from 2% - 74%.
Objective: To estimate immunohistochemical expression of HER-2\neu receptor protein in Urinary Bladder Carcinoma in relation to other parameters; sex grade, pattern of tumor and stage of tumor .
Methods: The present work is performed in the Department of Pathology and Forensic medicine, College of Medicine, Kufa University. Formalin fixed, Paraffin-embedded blocks from 60 (43 males and 17 females) patients with urinary bladder carcinoma were included in this study. A group of 12 patients with chronic cystitis were included as a control group. Avidin-Biotin Complex method was employed for immunohistochemical detection of HER-2\neu.
Results: HER-2\neu overexpression was positive in 41.6% of urinary bladder carcinoma, while there was no expression in benign bladder tissue (P<0.05). HER-2\neu immunohistochemical staining was positively correlated with, grade and stage of urinary bladder carcinoma (P<0.05).
Conclusion: These findings support the role of HER-2\neu in the carcinogenesis of urinary bladder carcinoma regarding behavior, and aggressiveness, and thus HER-2\neu could be considered as a poor prognostic parameter in urinary bladder carcinoma.
Long-term use of sulfonylureas including chlorpropamide, is known to potentiate the antidiuretic action of arginine vasopressin (AVP), predisposing to hyponatremia. The present study was designed to evaluate the effect of long term use of glibenclamide on serum and urinary levels of sodium and potassium in Type 2 DM patients in Iraqi DM centers. Ninety eight patients with Type 2 DM who were maintained on different doses of glibenclamide for at least 1 year, attending the centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Al-Rusafa, Baghdad, were enrolled in the study, in addition to 15 normal healthy subjects. Patients were allocated into three groups according to the dose of glibenc

The most serious medical problems in hyperglycemia is diabetic nephropathy (DN), originating from the aggregation of inflammatory cells in high numbers. Chitinase 3 like 1 protein (CH3L1P) is a new biomarker for chronic and severe inflammatory conditions. It has been suggested to have a role in the progress of diabetes-associated micro and macro-vascular complications. This paper aims to measure CH3L1P levels and examine their correlation with albuminuria levels in Iraqi patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Our study involved 66 T2DM patients

One of the well-known bi-clustering descriptors for identifying communities and complexes in complex networks, such as PPI networks, is modularity function. The contribution of this paper is to introduce heuristic optimization models that can collaborate with the modularity function to improve its detection ability. The definitions of the formulated heuristics are based on nodes and different levels of their neighbor properties. The modulari

The distinction between these two types of anaemia has always been challenging requiring sophisticated techniques. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) a truncated soluble form of the transferrin receptor is one of the parameters that is influenced by the Iron content and supply to the erythrons and is not affected by inflammatory status and therefore the use of the sTfR/log ferritin (sTfR-F) index can be a reliable indicator of functional iron deficiency.
Objectives: To determine the impact of an educational program on nurses’ knowledge
and practices concerning neurogenic bladder rehabilitation for spinal cord injured persons
through a follow-up approach each two months post program implementation for six
months.
Methodology: "Follow-up" longitudinal design by using time series approach of data
analysis and the application of pre-post tests approach for the study and the control
groups. The study was carried out at Ibn Al-Kuff hospital for (SCI) in Baghdad governorate
from 5th of July 2010 to 15th of October 2011. To achieve the objectives of the study, a
non-probability (purposive) sample of (60) nurses (males and females) were working in SCI

2 - 5,5 cm mosquito fishes (Gambusia affinis) were collected from brooks of Baghdad university . This study aimed to identify the histological structure and embryonic development of the gas bladder . The results revealed that the gas bladder of the adult fish consists of single chamber, paraphysoclistous , and its wall consist of three layers. The primordium of the gas bladder appears in 2,5 mm fish embryo as an evagination from the right side of endoderm of foreguts wall. This primordium consists of two thecae, inner, is simple columnar epithelium and outer originates from undifferentiated mesoderm. Simultaneously with the appearance of gas gland in the ventral side of the sac in 4 mm embryo, morphological and histological chan

Histopathological sections did not show any changes in respect to group A. however, group C suffered signs of infection less than those appeared in group B sections. Simultaneously, group D suffered intense histpathological changes more than other groups infected with resistant isolate.
Background: In recent years, bone marrow angiogenesis was reported to be involved in the pathogenesis and progression of certain hematological malignancies like multiple myeloma, leukemias, and lymphomas. Recent studies have suggested that bone marrow angiogenesis plays an important role in the pathogenesis and prognosis of multiple myeloma.
Objectives: at the present study, bone marrow angiogenesis in multiple myeloma was examined using immunohistochemical staining for CD34, and correlated with various pathological and clinical parameters.
Patients and methods: This is a retrospective study; where by archival paraffin-embedded tissue blocks along with the clinical and hematological records of fifty-two patients with multiple myelo
Background :
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the 4th common gastrointestinal cancer. (BRAFV600E) is a member of RAF family of serine/threonine protein kinases that function to regulate the (MAPK) / (ERK) pathway. BRAFV600E mutated CRC are associated with right-sided primary tumors, older women and high-grade tumors.
Aims of the study:
Study the immunohistochemical expression of BRAFV600E biomarker in a sample of Iraqi patients with colorectal cancer and the correlation of BRAFV600E expression with other clinicopathological variables such as patient's age and tumor gra

Patients, material, and methods: This is a retrospective study including thirty two randomly selected cases of GISTs collected from the pathology laboratory of the gastroenterology and hepatology teaching hospital and from private laboratories from the period January 2010 to December 2013. VEGF immunohistochemical marker was applied to the tumor tissue sections to evaluate its expression and to correlate it with other parameters. Objectives<
