The relationship of Adiponctin / Leptin ratio with metabolic syndrome

Background: Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease caused by abdominal obesity, such as hyperglycemia, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance.Adiponectin is a protein hormone that modulates a number of metabolic processes, including glucose regulation and fatty acidcatabolism. Adiponectin is exclusively secreted from adipose tissue into the bloodstream. Leptin, a hormone synthesized by fat tissue had been noted to regulate energy balance and metabolism. In this study investigated the relationships of adiponectin/leptin ratio with metabolic syndrome in apparently healthy Iraqi male adults.
Objective: This study was designed to investigate the relationship of adiponectin/leptin ratio with metabolic syndrome in apparently healthy Iraqi male adults.
Methods: Ninety male subjects were enrolled in study (mean age, 40.97 ± 7.94 years). Serum leptin level and adiponectin level were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. And the presence of metabolic syndrome was assessed.
Results: Mean leptinlevel was significantly higher (7.29 ± 0.38 ng/ml), whileadiponectin andadiponectin/leptinratio was significantly lower(4.78 ± 0.24 μg/ml; 0.74 ± 0.07) respectively in
subjects with MS. With increasingnumber of metabolic syndrome components, the mean values of leptinincreased and the adiponectin andadiponectin/leptindecreased.
Conclusion: adiponectin/leptinratio correlated well with the presence and number of metabolic syndrome components in Iraqi male subjects.

Detection of Toxic Shock Syndrome Toxin-1 among Children Undergoing Surgical Operations

Background: Toxic-shock syndrome (TSS) is an acute onset; multiorgan disease caused mainly by Toxic-shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) producing Staphylococcus aureus strains.Testing for TSST-1 or anti-TSST-1 antibodies in the clinical setting may help to predict and prevent the appearance of TSS caused by nosocomial S. aureus infection.
Objectives: Detection of TSST-1 in the sera of children patients arranged to undergo surgical operations, and its relevance with certain demographic factors.
Patients and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Baquba General Teaching Hospital- Diyala province for the period from August 2015 to April 2016. Eighty eight patients from those undergoing surgical operations were enrolled.

The effect of inhibin B on ovarian response in subjects with polycystic ovary

Background: Inhibin B hormone is one of the indicative parameters in measuring ovarian reserve ,which is important to be evaluated, since it is one of the markers of the female reproductive potential especially in polycystic ovary patients (PCOS) which is a common cause of anovulatory infertility.
Patients and methods: Ninty four infertile polycystic ovaries women, attending the infertility clinic at Baghdad teaching hospital, during the period of October 2005 to December 2006, were compared to 62 control group women who have unexplained infertility. After exact history and examination, inhibin level measurement was done in cycle day 3, the patients are divided according to age into 2 groups (more than 35

Fibromyalgia Syndrome among Iraqi Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis.

Back ground: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a common chronic musculo-skeletal disorder resulting in chronic widespread pain impacting on quality life.
Objectives: To assess the relationship between FMS and knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and to evaluate the predictors of this relationship if present.
Patients and Methods: One hundred Iraqi KOA patients and 100 healthy controls were included in this cross-sectional study. Full history was taken and complete clinical examination was done for all patients. Baseline characteristics [age, sex, duration, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, family history (Hx) of KOA, smoking history, and drug history.] were also documented. Laboratory analysis included complete blood count, erythrocyte

Prevalence and Demographic characteristics of Metabolic Syndrome in Iraqi Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome

Background: The demographic characteristics of Iraqi patients with the metabolic syndrome (MS) and presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) has been scarcely studied before.

Aim of the study To study the socio-demographic characteristics of a group of Iraqi patients with MS presenting with ACS.

Patients and Methods: A convenience sample of 150 cases presenting with ACS and admitted to the coronary care unit (CCU) of Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital in Baghdad from mid-January through July 2011 were included in the current cross-sectional study. The data needed for the study was collected through a direct interview to fill a questionnaire by all cases carried out by a consu

A Comparative Study Between The Levels of Adropin in Iraqi Women with Metabolic Syndrome and Diabetes

By measuring Adropin, fasting blood glucose (FBG), cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) in the sera of Iraqi patients with MetS and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the current study was designed to compare some crucial markers in metabolic syndrome (MetS) sera and diabetic patients (T2DM) with control. Twenty female subjects were divided into three groups: group I=40 with MetS and group II=40 with T2DM, and 40 healthy subjects were employed as a control group. Compared to the control group, Adropin levels in the Mets group and T2DM group decreased significantly (p < 0.05). In contrast, none of the patient groups (MetS and T2DM)
