Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease have multiple alterations of thyroid hormone metabolism in the absence of concurrent thyroid disease. These may include elevated basal TSH values, which may transiently increase to greater than 10 mU/liter, blunted TSH response to TRH, diminished or absent TSH diurnal rhythm, altered TSH glycosylation, and impaired TSH and TRH clearance rates. In addition, serum total and free T3 and T4 values may be reduced, free rT3 levels are elevated while total values are normal, serum binding protein concentrations may be altered, and disease-specific inhibitors reduce serum T4 binding .
Objective:. To assess the prevalence of hypothyroidism and u/s abnormalities of thyroid gland in patients with chronic kidney disease at different levels of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and their association with age , sex and duration of chronic renal failure . cross sectional study.
Patients and Method: a cross sectional study total of 50 patients who seek medical advice in Baghdad teaching hospital (29 male , 21 female) , the mean of their age was 60, with established chronic kidney disease were categorized into five groups according to the stages of chronic kidney disease . Full clinical, biochemical ( includes blood urea , serum creatinine , total T3, total T4 , TSH ) , thyroid ultrasonography studies were performed to all patients in this study. Risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking and family history of CKD were also recorded. Type of treatment of CKD whether conservative or renal replacement therapy (in form of peritoneal or hemodialysis) were also.
Results:- From a total of 50 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD ), eight patients had hypothyroidism (16 %) , three patients from stage 4 CKD and five patients from stage 5 CKD . Twelve patients from study sample had abnormalities in thyroid ultrasonography (24%) , one patient from stage 2 CKD , three patients from stage 3 CKD ,three patients from stage 4 CKD and five patients from stage 5 CKD . Thyroid ultrasound abnormalities includes six patients with simple goiter and six patients with multinodular goiter .From those eight patients with hypothyroidism , six patients were males (75%) and two patients were females (25%) .Regarding 12 patients with thyroid u/s abnormalities , five patients were male (41.6%) and seven patients were female (58.4%).Statistical analysis showed a significant association between drop in GFR and drop in thyroid function, from 13 patients in stage 4 CKD , three patients (23.07%) had hypothyroidism , and from 23 patients in stage 5 CKD , five patients (21.739%) had hypothyroidism .
Conclusion:- reduced glomerular filtration rate was associated with an increased prevalence of hypothyroidism, with many subclinical cases. Future studies are needed to determine the potential adverse effects of subclinical and clinical hypothyroidism in persons with chronic kidney disease.
Abstract
The research stems from the problem that focuses on a number of questions. They are as follows: What is the extent of interest in the topic of efficiency by the banks and their role in raising the efficiency of the banking business and its development? Is the banking efficiency used in Iraqi banks clear and specific for the Iraqi banking sector? How the banking sector efficiency is measured and what are the approaches adopted in determining the banking inputs and outputs? What is the level of efficiency in the research sample of the banks and what are the causes of its decline or rise in private banks individually and in the Iraqi banking sector in general?

Given the importance of this sector, it is necessary to evaluate the performance of banks from time to time and monitor the liquidity of each bank and how to organize its management to overcome any crisis or emergency situation that may befall it. The research seeks to diagnose the level of impact of crisis management. In the liquidity of Iraqi private banks, using liquidity indicators, as the research community represents the banks listed in the Iraq Stock Exchange As for the research sample, it is represented by (10) pri

Venous blood samples were collected from healthy male age between (18-57) years attended the National blood transfusion centre in Baghdad from Oct, 2011 to Jan. 2012. Latex agglutination test (LAT) and Enzyme linked Immunosorbant Assay (ELISA), were used to detect anti-Toxoplasmosis IgM and IgG antibodies. The results showed significant differences between seropositive toxoplasmosis infections between LAT, 136/400 (34%) and ELISA - IgG, 121/400 (30.25%). The blood group phenotypes of the infe

Celiac disease (CD) is an inflammatory small intestinal disorder that can lead to severe villous atrophy, and malabsorption . Since the measurement of α-amylase activity is the most widely used biochemical test for the diagnosis of pancreatic and non pancreatic disease , therefore serum α-amylase were studied in the present study in an attempt to evaluate the usefulness of this enzyme in the diagnosis of celiac disease and its relationship with anti gliadin IgA and IgG and serum glucose . Thirty one patients with celiac disease were studied and compared with twenty four healthy individuals . Significant elevation of α-amylase activity , glucose and anti gliadin IgA and IgG were observed in the sera of patients with celiac diseas

It has a crucial role in initiating, regulating, and mobilizing monocytes to active sites of periodontal inflammation. Its expression is also elevated in response to pro-inflammatory stimuli and tissue injury, both of which are linked to atherosclerotic lesions. Aim of the study: To determine the serum level of MCP-1 in patients with periodontitis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in comparison to healthy control and evaluate the biomarker's correlations with periodontal parameters. methods: This study enrolled 88 subjects, both males and females, ranging in age from 36-66 years old, and divided into four groups: 1<

Usually the patient presents at an age between 35- 45 years, with equal male to female ratio. Mostly they present with thrombosis or pregnancy complication. A quarter of the patients have thrombocytopenia and about one fifth have hemolytic anemia. The diagnosis rests on the criteria set as the Revised classification criteria for the Antiphospholipid syndrome
