Background: Myringoplasty is a procedure used to seal(reconstruct) a perforated tympanic membrane using a graft material by underlay or overlay techniques . Temporalis fascia is the commonly used graft material.
Aim of study: to evaluate the difference in outcome of myringoplasty in cases of active and inactive chronic otitis media without cholesteatoma.
Patients and Methods: a prospective study of 54 cases of myringoplasty in adult age group whom age ranges from (20-40 years) and the duration of the disease ranges from (6-24 months). All patients were complaining of chronic otitis media without cholesteatoma assessed clinically, audiologically and radiologically, all cases operated under general anesthesia and temporalis fascia grafting (underlay technique) via post-auricular incision.
Results: twenty six (48.2%) patients had an active chronic otitis media without cholesteatoma while the remaining twenty eight (51.8%) patients had an inactive chronic otitis media without cholesteatoma those with an active disease 21 (80.8%) cases have successful closure of the perforation while in those 28 cases with an inactive disease 24 (85.7%) cases have successful closure of the perforation. Factors of gender, age, side of the perforation, duration of the perforation, and the pre-operative management for the active ears had no significant effect on the outcome of myringoplasty, P values = 0.5, 0.1, 0.9, 0.5, 0.6, 0.6 and 0.7 respectively which are > 0.05. The overall percentage of success of grafting was 83.3% and the failure of grafting was 16.7%.
Conclusion:- The activity of the middle ear (infection) has little impact on the success rate of closure of tympanic membrane perforation.
The purpose of this paper is to build a simulation model by using HEC-RAS software to simulate the reality of water movement in the main river of Basra City (South of Iraq) which is known as Siraji-Khoura River. The main objective of the simulation is to detect areas where the water cycle is interrupted in some stations of the river stream, as this river has become an outlet for the disposal of sewage, leading to pollution and causing weakness in some sections of the river & obstructing the water cycle that takes place between this river and Shatt al – Arab river. A field survey data of the river and its banks were adopted to derive the grades, longitudinal and cross sections of the river, these data included three-dimensional coordinates

Show MoreBackground: Several studies linked the development of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) to genetic variations in the multidrug resistance 1 (MDR1) gene, though a disparity in findings was underlined among children with different ethnic origins. Objective: This study examined the relationship between MDR1 variants (rs2032582 and rs2032583) and the risk of developing SRNS in Iraqi patients with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS). Methods: This case-control study included children with steroid-sensitive INS (SSNS; n=30) and SRNS (n=30) from the Babylon Hospital for Maternity and Pediatrics. Sanger sequencing was used to determine the participants’ genotypes. Results: The rs2032582 genotypes and alleles were not associated

Different shapes of gold nanostructures (star and sphere; GNSs and GNPs) with a particle size of 40 nm for sphere particles were altered with a monoclonal antibody (Ab) as a detector Ab. To amplify the optical signal, gold nanostructures were employed as carriers of the signaling specific antibody against insulin growth factor binding protein- 3 (IGFBP-3). The substrate was catalytically oxidized by the Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugated gold nanostructure, and HRP also enhanced the optical signals, reflecting the amount of the targeting IGFBP-3. In comparison to t

It can cause different illnesses due to its ability to produce various virulence factors. A pore-forming toxin (cytolysin) is the most virulence factor in this bacterium. Objective: This study aims to molecularly investigate the frequency of cytolysin toxin among E. faecalis isolated from UTIs. Methods: A hundred and eighty urine specimens were collected from females diagnosed with UTIs. Traditional laboratory and molecular methods were used for bacterial identification and toxin detection using a modified DNA extraction method. Results: The findings reveal

and Al-Batool hospitals for maternity and children in Mosul city to assess knowledge and practice of the nursing
staff in the caring of premature infants.
Methodology: the data were collected by using knowledge assessment and practice measurement tool.
Results: the results of the study show that high percentages (about 40%) of the staff who work in the premature
